Sivika wont care, because for her is more important that Jinx made Zaun united. That was the only thing Sivika ever wanted. Thats why she betrayed Vandor and not Silco. But Silco also lost his way, not to mention what she will do if she know that Silco didnt want to trade Jinx for nation of Zaun.

How the fuck did Jinx make Zaun united? I mean she's not really a leader nor a figure people will follow. And knowing that she killed the guy who kept everything in check and was just a step ahead from gaining Zaun's independence would in fact piss off not only Sevika but people of Zaun too. Since Jinx is basically the reason why pilty-goons came down in the Under-city. In their search for her they make lives of people of Zaun miserable. There's no way no one would know about Jinx killing Silco. Being bitter to capture Jinx Cate 100% would use Jinx jeopordazing peace talks with Silco as a propaganda tool for people of the Under-city to sold her out
The thing writers did is just lame ass writing. Jinx is a symbol because? Because of what exactly? What does she represents?

The worst part for me, apart from the absolutely idiotic character developpement, is how the story shifted from a super interesting conflict between two intertwined societies, to this stupid and generic marvel-like super-vilain with a robot army who wants to end human suffering and hatefulness (how original), but whose only true purpose is for the writers to get that common ennemy that serves as a reason to get both sides united for that "emotional" ending... Very disappointing writing.

I 100% guarantee this was planned from the beginning. The story has always been about reconciliation between sisters, with Viktor as the main villain.

      @@GenerationOffended
I think this is a point where I'll have to disagree. Jinx wasn’t created to be a villain; in fact, it was expected from the start that she would become a fan favorite, as the writers were careful not to make her truly evil. She was crafted as a tragic character, destined to make mistakes and, in the end, possibly sacrifice herself for her sister.
Jinx is a mix of Harley Quinn and Tank Girl and was never designed to be an outright villain.
Arcane has had flaws since Season 1, and one of them, in my opinion, is the fact that the Council simply goes along with a pretty boy acting behind their backs, striking a deal with Silco, and suddenly deciding to grant Zaun independence. This feels especially odd considering Piltover has managed to suppress uprisings in the past and could easily do so again.

@@GenerationOffendedI need to see one good argument for a flaw in Arcane in general and 1 good argument for season 2 to be as terrible as some try it out to make.
So a quick run down as I already wrote a 5 hour perspective today and my fingers need rest:
      1. How fucking naive are you guys if you think you can understand over 100 named characters at once within a few weeks of time. Season 1 was as good because we slowly discovered more and more about the character web and I bet most of them couldn’t even give a deep reason why Silco drugged the Undercity to take down Piltover.
Season 2 is season 1 mirrored so to expect to understand it at this point is stupid.
      2. Most stuff people say to shit on season 2 is because their understanding from season 1 is not the same as the writers as they cleared the ambiguity. And instead of accepting this they defend their opinion as they grew to love their interpretation of the story.
Nothing in Arcane is because of chance and the fact that most of the trust people had after season 1 has disappeared after episode 2 is just sad to see and really not justified.
      3. Also most of folk that doesn’t like season 2 think that season 2 is the end to all story arcs presented. And so we get a lot of false impressions like Jinx choosing death although Ekko „talked her out of it“ while this isn’t even shown. Or that the Vi-Cait scene was too long and the time could have been used to show more of Ekko or Mel.
The arc that is done is the sister arc and the process of weaponizing Hextech.
So the only story arcs that can be judged are the following:
      1. Vander/Silco as in „breaking the cycle“
      2. Vi/Caitlyn as in „sometimes to create something new some things are left behind“
Both of these arcs are freaking perfect down to the last second. The rest will be continued in 1-2 years.

Warwick’s inclusion is so bizarre upon rewatch because it’s so glaringly obvious he only exists as a plot device. He’s a contrived excuse to reunite Vi and Jinx for a few episodes and then his “personality” is wiped only 3-4 episodes later. They should have kept him consciously Vander for a bit to make him losing his memories actually impactful because he doesn’t feel like a character at all, more the premise of one. All in all it feels like he was only around for a blip, it makes you question what was even the point of having him? As it stands the most impactful thing he does is make Vi hesitate on the ledge so Jinx can sacrifice herself

I would have liked to see him more tortured and volatile, (meaning when he's not in bloodlust mode), giving him more personality outside of "he used to be Vander." It would have also raised the stakes of Jinx and Vi's mission to help each other help him if there was that tension of not knowing when he's gonna snap and hurt somebody. Instead when he's not in 100% bloodlust mode he's a docile little puppy bizarrely used to rehash Vander's story which we already know.

I found it odd that Jinx's schizophrenia basically completely disappeared, and she acted almost entirely lucid and in-control throughout season 2. Sure, she had a depressive episode in act 3, but that's wildly different from how she was in season 1. There's really only one time (when she's told that Isha has been captured by enforcers) where her hallucinations briefly return. Other than that, she also has the conversation with "Silco" in her jail cell, but that comes off less like a hallucination and more like just an internal dialog with a memory ala when "Vander" was giving Vi advice during her Sevika fight in season 1.
Season 1 Jinx was an avatar of chaos who was literally incapable of living a normal life due to her severe mental illnesses; she was someone who could shoot or blow up everyone around her at any moment if she gets the wrong arbitrary trigger. Season 2 Jinx seems like a perfectly cogent person who could easily settle down at any point if she'd just accept that she's deserving of happiness.
In large part, I think it was meant to be the influence of Isha on her, but she was acting way too sane even before Isha came along.

She could've been (and debatably still was) an excellent avenue for change and growth in Jinx's character, with different writing (imagine if she died to an enforcer or Caitlyn, rather than in a pointless self-sacrifice). Personally, I wish Vander/Warwick hadn't existed. That's what derailed the season. Episodes 1-4 were setting up all-out war between Zaun and Piltover and Jinx accepting the mantle of being a symbol of Zaun's revolution, but then Vander/Warwick comes along and suddenly we're off on a completely different, unrelated story, going on strolls down memory lane and playing family reunion between two characters who were literally trying to kill each other an hour earlier. We didn't need backstory for how Silco and Vander met the girls' mother, or how Vi got her name. We needed more setup for Ambessa's motivations and the final act, not to mention a smoother transition between Zaun openly revolting against Piltover and suddenly coming to Piltover's defense against Ambessa/Viktor.
Vander should've remained in season 1, and Warwick should've remained a blink-and-you'll-miss-it easter egg for League players. His addition to the season contributed nothing of importance at all, and only served to distract from the main conflict.

And with more time you would prob do some other things differently to plug up holes too. So to me it is like the hugest issue. They had to start with Jinx where they did at beginning s2 otherwise they would never make to the end they wanted, it was pretty truncated on many plot lines. They easily can make this season into 2 or three seasons with proper development. If they had they could have started with jinx as the villain in s2 and then show through events how she might start to change afterwards. @@aetherwolf9288 Well I don’t want to write an overly massive paragraph about season 2, but in short, I pretty much agree with everything GenerationOffended has said about this season. Some of my bigger frustrations with s2 is how much they’ve just rushed everything. Like Warwick’s death, Isha’s death, Jinx’s (supposed) sacrifice, & so on, which is understandable when you only have 9 episodes in your seasons, but 9 episodes is just not enough. Tv shows, especially tv shows like Arcane, need a lot more episodes than just 9. & it definitely doesn’t help that this show is now over. Season 1 managed to still be a good season with only 9 episodes, but with everything that was going on in season 2, it definitely needed more episodes, especially when this season is suppose to be the last.
I have other big issues with this season, like Jinx suddenly having a redemption arc when she should’ve just remained as the main antagonist, & maybe then (maybe) she could have a redemption arc later on in the series, & that this season just completely drops the Zaun vs Piltover plot, for a completely different one that should’ve been its own season (GenerationOffended mentions these issues in his videos), but yeah.

But it went from that to the plot being all over the place, it feels like the writers couldn’t pick which plot to do. I think s2 should’ve deleted a lot of things/plot lines too. Like Vander/Warwick, the Ambessa plot line, Mel and the black rose and some of Viktor and Jayce’s scenes. I feel like no/little time was given to Jinx and Vi’s arcs compared to s1 and for me I think that was the most important part of the show. Also I think Jayce and Viktors arcs were good but they took up too much time.

What I hated about Jinx's death is that it basically made her entire existence as a character pointless. What exactly did she achieve with her life? The decisions made with her character in S2 invalidated everything she had achieved in S1. The entirety of S2, we were just re-treading old ground, going through the same character beats as S1.
Also, I hated how incompetent Vi and Caitlyn were. They were constantly falling for Jinx's traps. Not once did they show even an inkling of competence. During their fight with Jinx I was just laughing at how idiotic everybody was:
    - Vi, armed with gauntlets that break down fucking walls, wasn't even able to make an impression on scrawny little Jinx
    - Sevika was polite enough to grab Caitlyn with her normal arm, rather than her metal chomper arm of destruction
    - Caitlyn - a Legolas-level marksman who's so trigger-happy she shoots at anything vaguely Jinx-shaped - was aiming POINT BLANK at Jinx and didn't fire? Why did we have the scene with the gas where Caitlyn shot at a shadow without a moment's hesitation?
I was also super pissed during the search for Vander when Vi genuinely struggled beat Jinx in a simple hand-to-hand fight - you know, the ONE thing Vi has been shown to be competent at?!
So frustrating! Although, I actually liked the storyline with Ekko, Heimer and Viktor.
Anyway, I'm rambling. I can write so much about how I hated S2. But judging from people's reactions, we're definitely in the minority...

I watched arcane before even knowing what league of legends was, had no idea it was based off of a video game, but the narrative and character writing was so good in season 1 that I couldn't pick up that it was a video game adaptation. Season 2 is a convoluted mess that refuses to tell a story properly through its characters and instead focuses on distracting you from the horrible writing with brilliant animation and music just so we can reach the end of the story as fast as possible. I honestly feel so defeated, I loved season 1 and had so much hope for season 2, even bought Netflix again just so I could watch it as soon as it released, but since so many people refuse to acknowledge how terrible this season was and praise it as a masterpiece, we shouldn't be surprised when future pieces of media no longer have depth and good writing because most people chose to accept the slop presented to them.

  • @bizzapandare1209
    @bizzapandare1209 11 днів тому +31

I think you do misunderstood a couple of scenes from Arcane.
First, Jinx didn’t care about Zaun-that was Silco’s goal and priority. Jinx was simply a tool he manipulated, her intellect weaponized against Piltover. Was she angry at Piltover and did she want to see it burn? Yes, but not for "altruistic" reasons or out of concern for her people's desire for freedom. Her anger stemmed from deep wounds and trauma. She wanted to punish anyone who opposed her in her twisted perspective. She wasn’t a hero, nor did she aspire to be one.
What Jinx truly sought was acceptance for who she was. She yearned for familial love, and when she finally received it-Silco’s love and acceptance-what remained for her? She never cared for power or politics. Her family was gone, one way or another. Everything in her life seemed to slip away because she "jinxed" it. Zaun didn’t matter to her-it was Silco’s dream and Vi’s. Everything Jinx did was for Silco, not Zaun.
The scene where Jinx killed Silco is more complex. In that moment, she was affected by schizoaffective trauma. Triggered, she reacted instinctively-by shooting everything, as seen in the earlier scene with the girl with pink hair. Yet, this moment also showed the bond between Jinx and Vi. Jinx didn’t kill Vi or Caitlyn, because Vi was the last family member she had.
Even when Jinx “chose” to embrace her identity as Jinx, it wasn’t entirely her decision. In killing Silco, she had once again lost a father figure-she had "jinxed" it all over again. Destroying the Piltover wasn’t her dream but Silco’s, one she had been fed - and she did what she believed, will achieve this dream.
    Her being mad at Vi.
Jinx is still a teenager deeply affected by trauma-don’t expect her to see logic. She saw her sister, Vi, seemingly join the forces of Piltover-the same forces that killed their parents. Zaun has always been affected by toxicity. Their patron deity is a literal embodiment of fresh air, and now, "one of them" is brining gas to their home.
For Jinx, it wasn’t about rationality; it was about the emotional devastation of feeling abandoned by the last person she truly cared for. Or at least, hoped for.
    Her plan to delete herself.
Jinx just wanted to die, man. It was so painfully obvious-she wanted her sister, Vi, to be the one to end it all. She craved an escape from the madness, to leave in a dramatic, chaotic “POOF” of colors and destruction, finally free from the torment consuming her. That’s why, later, she said, “Jinx is dead.” It wasn’t about abandoning the Jinx persona-it was because people believed she truly died that day.
    Her mental state.
Jinx’s triggers for mental crises were always tied to her sister, the guilt of killing her family, or the crushing feeling of abandonment. I’ll admit, some of her intensity and "craziness" seemed less prominent in Season 2. But it makes sense-most of the key triggers she faced were either resolved, distant, or dead.
Now, she had someone under her wing-a mini-version of herself. For this person, she felt a sense of responsibility, even if it was unconventional. In a way, this new dynamic gave her a sliver of what she had always longed for: sisterhood. It was fractured and imperfect, but it mirrored the bond she had desperately missed with Vi.
    Jinx has become a symbol.
No one truly knows what happened before the tower collapsed. Only Caitlyn and Vi could share the story, but why would the rest of Zaun trust them? Caitlyn was Piltover through and through, and Vi had spent most of her time in prison, only to later fight actively against Silco and his cause. Why should Zaun believe them?
This might even explain why Jinx was elevated to almost saint-like status in Zaun’s eyes. If an enforcer from Piltover descended into Zaun, pointing fingers and claiming one of their own was a terrorist against them. To Zaun, she wasn’t a villain; she was a fighter, someone who struck back against the oppressors on their behalf.
Okay, I have spent too much time for this lol.

Jinx doesn't randomly decide to have a vendetta against Vi. She gets freaked out when she sees her wearing an enforcer outfit, on patrol with an enforcer squad, and associates her with being responsible for gassing Zaun. That is an ENORMOUS betrayal.
When she sees her walk into their old haunt, the demon face flashes on Vi, indicating that Jinx is associating her with the Vi that hit her and rejected her. Her interior conflict is very visible as she runs out of the joint, weeping, and screaming in frustration that Vi once again has seemingly betrayed her. This naturally propels her to fight her - and she also LITERALLY EXPLAINS ALL OF THIS OUT LOUD in her conversation with Vi before they fight.
Later on, after Isha jumps on Jinx to save her from Cait, and Vi then puts herself in between Cait and Jinx, Jinx visibly reacts to Vi when she does this - which for her is enough to maintain consideration that Vi might still love her after all, which of course does happen when Vander is back in their life.

Too many characters. Too many subplots. Too little time. Interesting plot threads abandoned because the show was running out of episodes and everything needed to be tied up ao the big bad guy could be defeated. Conflicts resolved with a wave of the hand. Absolute disregard for season 1. Almost every fight being a music video more than a choreography. And the very telepgraphed use of throwaway characters like Isha.
Did Arcane just switch writing teams or something because damn...season 2 was an absolute mess.
Animation was still absolutely gorgeous though. And I really really enjoyed the story and pacing of Episode 7. Lot of feel good moment underlaced with complicated implications that only the viewers know but the characters don't (even Ekko). But that is just one episode of the 9.

I wish Jinx and the Zaunites had attacked Piltover and won, bringing misery to everyone to the point where Vi would have to join the Enforcers to restore peace (hopefully for Zaun as well). Jinx would probably want to destroy everything, regardless of whether it hurt children or others, and Vi would eventually realize that this isn’t what she wanted when she wished to fight Piltover. She would also come to understand Vander's perspective better.
Having Vi join the Enforcers-whom she hates-to kill her sister, who has been hiding and doing nothing, felt strange and forced. Plus it only lasted like, 2 episodes...

@@ethantanwenjie9916 Hmm, I don't think I agree. From my perspective (with no deep knowledge of LoL lore), the Hextech and Arcane storyline didn’t seem to be heading in that direction. I thought Hextech would end up being used by both sides, thanks to Jinx, leaving Piltover with no choice but to use it as well. As for the Arcane, I had the impression it would corrupt Viktor, but after that, it could have gone in many directions. Making it a world-destroyer wasn’t the only option-it could have been hinted at for future shows if they really wanted to take that direction.
The Noxus storyline should have been more focus and less invasive ? I understand Ambessa wanting to access Hextech and maybe protect Mel, but it took too much screen time to my taste. They could even have been the reason Zaun got access to more Hextech, by being greedy or something.
That being said, I personally prefer character-driven stories (where the feelings and relationships of the characters are the main focus). I wish they had waited until after Arcane to switch to a more plot-driven story

Good thing you mentioned it tho! Looking at it now it looks like yet another inconsistency. Both Silco and Vander always had that agenda that they're defending the Under-city and working hard to protect everyone. Plus we must consider that Silco most likely had been occasionaly brainwashing Jinx with all these "Great Zaun" ideas for all these years after taking her in. It doesn't look like she really cares at first (the firelights attack on the ship aftermath scene), but I feel like after Silco's death she would start respecting his ideas more. And I doubt she would just sit passively watching how pilty-goons pissing on her fathers grave by destroying everything he has created. Judging by how unhinged Jinx is, she would straight away blow up a few dozens enforcers if she sees any of them destroying the memory of her father.
Yet in the S2 it's like she never cared about Silco. Like dude is dead, I'm dead inside now live goes on. Which I find bullshit since she'd be the first in line to blow up or shoot down enforcers if they try to take away her fathers legacies

This is such a refreshing take! I’m surprised this doesn’t have more views. I personally like the addition of Isha, but that’s my personal soft spot for stories about flawed characters in maternal/paternal roles. But even with my view of this story decision, I wasn’t happy with how it was handled. When Isha first dropped in on Jinx, I was afraid for the kid(Jinx literally pointed a gun at her on their first encounter) and assumed this would make for a turbulent dynamic. When this didn’t happen, I still had faith in the writers that they weren’t going to just kill Isha to move Jinx forward.
I actually hoped that Isha would make a catastrophic mistake like Powder did, and that would push Jinx into some kind of development, and that they wouldn’t just take the easy way and kill her.
Overall though, I agree with your takes more than any others I’ve yet to hear on YT! The problem with the season runs deeper in the bones of the story, and I’ll be checking out the other parts!

I agree with basically everything you said here and I've found your videos on this helpful!
My only objection is with the very beginning for two reasons. I don't think it's out of character for Jinx to be aimless. She's possibly the most selfish character in season 1 post-timeskip and all of her actions are disconnected from politics except for her final attack on Piltover, and one could debate whether that was her declaring war on her oppressors or merely doing what she thought Silco wanted her to do. Also, killing Silco was not a conscious choice. I mean, I guess some people interpret that scene as her "choosing Vi", but that seems so ridiculous to me considering she was having the worst panic attack we see from her, followed by an instinctive reaction to hearing a threat nearby, which we saw her do earlier in the season as well. On top of that, that scene is a parallel to when she killed her family in childhood, a repeat of the past to solidify in her mind that she cannot be good, cannot be better than a "jinx", which would be severely undercut if killing Silco was intentional.
But again, I agree with everything else. I did enjoy my first watch of this season, but there is SO much I wish was different about it, and your videos have really shown me a lot more details that I simply haven't considered because I've still barely processed the new season heheh! I'm easily entertained, but my view of the quality gap between seasons 1 and 2 gets wider every time I think about it. I think I was afraid to confront the season's flaws at first because I didn't want my enjoyment of the show ruined. I'm becoming more comfortable with it now, and honestly am finding myself still picturing season 1 as its own complete thing like it always was for me. I think I'll definitely still eat up season 2 episode 7 forever though haha!

    • @GenerationOffended
      @GenerationOffended  Місяць тому +4

Those are some fair points. I can see where you are coming from. You're right that its not necessarily out of character for her to not be leading a movement, however just from a structure standpoint it would have been better to have Jinx be more active in the politics of Piltover and Zaun. I know shes insane but she always had a plan that motivated her and in this season she lacks any real long term goal.
Regardless of her consciously or unconsciously becoming Jinx it still lessens the weight of that decision to kill Silco when she tries to kill Vi in episode 3.
You makes some good points and you have a cool interpretation of the finale. Its fun to have some discourse that isn't hostile on the show lol. So many people get there back up about this stuff.

      @TheAngryLibrarian 29 днів тому +1

@GenerationOffended Thank you very much! And yeah I can see what you mean too. It would be pretty cool to see Jinx with a long term goal, something she's working towards. Perhaps she could have at least formed one by Act 2 or started Act 1 with an interest in rebellion following her blowing up the Council, and then changed goals for some reason, idk. There's a bunch of possibilities and I'm sure many of them have merit!
I sat down recently and wrote some stuff I thought would be neat to see from Vi in Act 1, but I haven't done the same for Jinx and it's not like a "THIS is what SHOULD have happened!" it's more just one of many ideas that I like and wrote down for fun. :3

But it’s like they took all her severe symptoms and she acts relatively normal for the first half of season two…
The only time she really feels mentally unwell is when she decides to kill herself, but even then it doesn’t feel like her at all. It’s a completely different struggle and her craziness is still missing
Like did they think we wouldn’t notice as long as she said silly one-liners that weren’t even funny?? As long as she was written like a manic pixie dream girl??? Wasn’t the whole point to turn that troupe on its head and make a well-rounded character…

I really wanted to see more of them and I was so ready for Viktor to turn into the machine herald. I don't play LoL but after season 1 it was kinda inevitable to not see his in game design and the basics about his lore. I feel like by making him arcane Jesus, Viktor just became too powerful in comparison to the other characters. The writers probably did it on purpose though so they could have an epic final battle and a way to bring Vander back (because the limitations and workings of the arcane in the show are so badly defined that that just works ig). It also pisses me of that all the theories about the hexcore manipulating Viktor through Sky weren't true. Like, the whole hive mind thing is bad but Viktor wouldn't have tried to take over the world if he was just left alone. Like, he genuinly wanted to help people, but then all of a sudden he's the main bad guy. And the "resolution" was just so bad. Jayce's behaviour in Episode 6 makes no sense after what we learn in Episode 9, like why tf would Jacye want to kill Viktor?! Jinx never planned ahead. She always lived for the now, seeking Silco's approval, to prove she wasn't "weak". Jinx never cared about liberating Zaun. That was Silco's agenda. When she fired the rocket at the council, Jinx was simply lashing out. The series began with an explosion in Piltover that set in motion everything that happened and the season ended with an explosion in Piltover.
Yes, she hates the enforcers for killing her parents but she never had any ideals of leading a rebellion. After Silco, she was directionless, purposeless. Isha helped Jinx anchor herself and find something worth living for. She gave her something to focus on. I do however, have a problem with Jinx being dragged back down or worse from the death of Isha. It's treading old ground. She loses, yet another sister, only this time a little sister. It's tired and manipulative, imo. The story needed Jinx to sink even lower than she was after Silco's death for some reason and we all had to endure it.
Vi saddling up with the enforcers was considered the ultimate betrayal in Jinx's eyes. This was her Silco and Vander moment and it crushed her when she was already at an all-time low. Vi spent her whole childhood hating the enforcers and was eager to fight. Jinx was now completely alone until Isha became a semi-permanent fixture.

Also, saying Jinx's whole personality is to just be crazy is a character assassination by itself. She hallucinates so much in season 1 because she's constantly on edge, and in season 2 we see her hallucinate whenever she goes through stressful situations as well (like when she sees Vi in an enforcer uniform or when Isha is captured. There's also drawings on the screen when she shows up in the airship). Jinx's main issues are from deep-seated identity issues, that's why she can't fully commit to being either Powder or Jinx and shifts back and forth between them. And Jinx is not "mentally sound" after Silco's death, she's just numb.
Saying Isha has the personality of a dog is downright offensive. She's a child who idolizes the woman who saved her from the street thugs. When Jinx doesn't want to commit to the Jinx identity anymore, Isha goes to the riot and does it herself, showing she has a strong fighting spirit. She was willing to shoot Vi to protect Jinx even if that put her in danger because she felt indebted to Jinx for doing the same for her. Just because she's loyal and can't speak doesn't make her comparable to a dog.

Jinx's decision to kill Silco is clearly reflex rather than a rational decision, she is in the middle of a mental breakdown. This is also why she runs over to him, it was not intentional.
Jinx is still clearly not powder in act 2, she literally says as much. Her abandoning everyone to live with Isha is the same life decision as Vander and Silco made, revolutionaries that find something they are unwilling to sacrifice for their revolution.

They even skip the scene where Ambessa is about to confront him. It is just plain dumb. Singed plan doesn't make any sense either. Get captured, call Warwick and then what? He gest to the prison(using a tram - lol) and then what? How does it work for Singed then? What if Ambessa dies in process(which should happen)? Lucky for him Jinx was there and he gets calm, but how could he predict that. I just I dunno it is so dumb. Plot in this show is dumb, no1 thought about anything in this season by the looks of it. If you continue this series, I'd love to see it mentioned that one of the biggest plot holes is that Jayce's crusade against Hextech led to nothing. The crystals that power the weapons still exist in the world, and Linke more or less said it will be weaponized by another family (presumably Camille's family). So he died for nothing at all. Second, despite him saying it cannot be given to the people, he uses an Arcane corrupted Mercury Hammer and that is never addressed. As for the multiverse/AU plot, Mage Viktor says 'only YOU can show me this', even though he could have shown his past selves a vision of what would happen with the Hexcore. Another issue is that Mage Viktor keeps perpetuating doomed timelines because he could not tell Jayce to be careful with the runes and as a means to keep a version of himself alive with Jayce. It sounds less and less romantic and a star-crossed lovers plot when you think about it, because in every timeline he takes away Viktor's agency and leaves him a pawn of the Arcane. It would have been so much cooler to see him bend the Hexcore to his will and make it a transformation rune of his own making.
Jayce and Viktor had to end themselves to end a doomed timeline...to stop Hextech that will still be used...for a plot that could have been avoided if 1. Jayce had died or 2. Jayce had been warned about it beforehand; or 3. Jayce told Viktor at the commune what he saw. They literally ended themselves for nothing. "Oh but they had to do it to end the Anomaly" yeah and apparently Mage Viktor couldn't use that to talk to his younger selves? OK bud.

And even not with the Undercity vs Topside.
It was purely Silco/Vander vs Piltover and most of Zaun followed them because they were about to change things.
With Silco and Vander gone and Sevika without any competent leader to guide, the council being dead and Mel abducted there is no reason for the conflict to take center stage.
Mel got abducted because of Ambessa bringing the Rose to Piltover building her character out to be the next Protagonist of her own show (something a lot of people wanted).
So you still have political drama however the characters are done with that shit as they don’t want to fight. In the end all are just tired and defeated because of Jayce and Jinxes actions. And these two have no interest at all to fight anything. Jayce wants to invent and research to help people. And Jinx just wants Powder to not be hurt anymore. And Powder is hurt because of Vi.

I think a huge problem is that, while the *emotions* of the characters were there, the setting just didn't actually feel real. The stakes/consequences didn't ultimately matter all that much. Which is a HUGE change from s1.
S1 Jinx wasn't inherently motivated by helping Silco rebel against Piltover. She wanted to help Silco. Why does Silco want to establish the Nation of Zaun? Because Piltover has been oppressing them for as long as anybody can remember. Why did Vander and Silco have a falling out? Because of differences in how they felt they should respond to being oppressed.
The characters' motivations are intrinsically tied up in the world that they inhabit. The setting of 'oppressed, impoverished undercity' factored into ALL of the Zaunites' decisions and motivations in S1, but in S2 it's like Zaun just... Magically became nicer once Silco was dead? But that's not really how that works, ESPECIALLY given that martial law was declared essentially immediately after his death.
Zaun is a horrible place to live because Piltover oppresses it, not because Silco is some unique evil that made the undercity horrible because he's just that bad.
And I think, if there's one thing that irritates me about a lot of the commentary online about this, it's that most UA-cam videos analyzing the show in a meaningful way seem to come from people that have little to no empathy for what the kind of circumstances we see in Zaun actually *do* to people. If there's one thing I liked about s2, it was the depiction of AU Jinx where she spent her time doing science instead of blowing things up. She's a sociopath, not a psychopath; Made, not born.
    tl;dr Arcane s1 felt alive. Arcane s2 didn't.

Thank you for making a video about Jinx, and i agree with you. To me, she was the most disappointing character in Season 2! After having her in season one as a schizophrenic sociopath who fully embraced becoming Jinx at the end of it, to season two her saying to Caitlyn "Sorry, i didn't know your Mom was there!" Like what the actual hell!!! That alone was her character assassination. (It kind of reminds me of what the writers did to Arthur Fleck in Joker 2 actually!)....
The fact that most people praise season 2 and some even call it a masterpiece when the writing is this bad, is mind boggling to me! Even if the only people who deserve the praise are the animators, cast of voice actors and sound designers for their great work, the writers and whomever came up with the idea of season two ruined what could have been another masterpiece, after season one!... What a shame!

It was my pleasure, she was one of the biggest problems in the season. You’re totally right, that whole arc was so inconsistent. I can’t believe how much they left off screen.
I agree, i think the problems lie solely in the writers room. Everything else was on the standards of last season.
Unfortunately, no matter how beautiful it looks, it can’t disguise how the story was ruined.

@@aetherwolf9288 What a lame and childish criticism to my comment! First of all, i never claimed to be a writer or that i can write a story for season 2. And second, just because i am not a writer, that doesn't mean i can't have an opinion on an art form or an entertainment. If you liked season 2 good for you, at the end of the day art is subjective. But to me and some others, season 2 was a disappointing badly written season.

You don't need to be a writer to be qualified to critique writing. Being an audience member inherently qualifies someone to judge at shows qualities. Its like me saying you need to be a coach to properly judge a sport team's performance. It just doesn't make sense.

The scene in season 1 where she gives Silco the Hextech gemstone, hugs him, and goes happy progress day with the fireworks, easily was better than every single Jinx scene in season 2. And that wasn’t even close to her best scene.

Gah! Sevika makes no sense in this season. In S1, she hates Jinx and wants her gone but after Jinx kills Silco, who appears to have been something of a father figure to Sevika too, she wants Jinx to be a leader. Jinx has no organisational skills in S1 and even ruins plans with her solo runs and crazy behaviour. Why the F%^$ would sevika, Silco's second in command, want or expect Jinx to be able to lead. She'd be much more likely to want her dead for her role in Silco's death. She'd be much more likely to organising the resistance herself, which we've seen the begining of in S1.
Don't even get me started on the fact that the writers just 'switch off' Jinx's mental illness. Yeah, because that's the way it works when you hear voices and see dead people.

I really liked how they handled her mental illness in s1. You can even see the signs of it early on, too, when it came to high stress situations, but having isha be this magical schizophrenia off button was a weird choice like I get she's supposed to be a powder stand in but having a little sister doesn't make you mentally sound.

A few of my points are about Jinx also, such as the absolute horrible writing that the people of Zaun idolise her, when she literally caused the enforcers to come down and oppress Zaun... its like everyone forgot that EKKO should have been a symbol, or heck even viktor for what hes done to create a thriving community, but they literally worship Jinx for no reason...

l’m so angry at the writing of this season. Cait just switches sides like gloves. Her turning evil could have worked if it had been gradual, and if she had faced the consequences for it. Vi this season was just a supporting character for everyone else, like she lacked agency, and she was/is my favorite!!! It felt like the writers were scared to show more of her emo era because that would have made Cait’s actions worse, and shippers wouldn’t want them together. And I’m saying this as a CaitVi shipper myselfAnd that sex scene - Vi should have known Jinx was suicidal, it was obvious. Jinx was dirty, looked very bad, and she gave herself up to the Enforcers. I’m writing this as a Vi season 1 era defender. Cait KNEW that Jinx told her to finish the job. When Cait found out Jinx left cell, and then met Vi, she should have said, “Go after your sister,” because it was obvious Jinx was suicidal. Vi even saw Jinx willing to be killed during the fight in episode 3. Vi is my favorite, but they wrote her as so clueless in that scene.I just love how Vi casually bangs Cait in her sister's cell after they fought in the scene before about Jinx being in prison . It’s not like Cait didn’t traumatize Vi and commit war crimes against her home, Zaun (season 1 Vi would NOT have let that slide) :). Oh, and Jinx has to “break the cycle” because she caused Vi too much pain, but meanwhile, Cait - the ex-dictator who also hurt Vi - is fine. Vi was beaten by the Enforcers in prison, amd Cait did it with her rifle as enforcer , but that’s okay, because Vi’s mental pain doesn’t exist because of Cait. What a lesson: leave your ex-abuser to be with another ex-abuser. And if your past actions burden to loved ones , move away from your loved ones. Yeah, romance over sisterhood - what a lovely and effective story. It completely ignores the majority of season 1 and 2.If the writers wanted Jinx in other regions so badly, she should have left with Vi. It would have been a nice callback to Vi’s line about leaving Piltover in season 1. Cait and Ekko could have joined later, and the four of them could have formed a badass squad - well-written, of course.I’m happy you’re critical of this season. Season 1 was a 10/10, but season 2… I don’t know, like a 6/10 (thanks to the "wonderful finale" and the "deep writing" of Jinx and Vi, etc.). Animations can’t save awful writing, nonsense, and a bad ending

I feel like you are missing the point I her character. Jinx was never polticially motivated ever, she only did everything to get the love from Silco and now he is gone she isn‘t invested in the war between the city’s, cause she never was in the first place. She did what did cause her inventions are her dedication, but she never had an evolved plan or true goal with it, she wanted to help the people around and that didn’t change rather it is her being Powder or Jinx, she just landed her powers to Silco who fostered them to the point they actually became useful.
Now that he is gone and Vi is gone she doesn‘t have anyone she is doing it for and her whole path was her accepting her destructive nature. With accepting herself by the end of season one, accepting that she is that destructive force, that she is a „Jinx“ the only possible path for her to not dragging everyone who she cared about with her (or in fact kill them) is to remove herself from the situation. So when she met Isha who she cared about she did excactly that but when Isha died she got reminded again that she just is that destructive force and that she cannot walk away from so the only way out to not hurt any more people she cares about, to not loose another person is to commit suicicde (at least in her mind). I feel like this was Jinx’s whole story arch in season two and I actually feel like it was well done.

While I agree to a lot of the points you make, her stopping and crying on Vanders body is not a bad writing. As much as we know Vi never really had time to grieve after Vander. She thinks she gets him back, loses him again, has no time to grieve again, then has to fight him. I think her braking down in front of Warwick body is justified. What I think is bs is Warwick getting up again. Like we saw that all Viktors soldiers? puppets? stopped functioning after he disappeared so why does Warwick get up?

    • @GenerationOffended
      @GenerationOffended  26 днів тому +6

Thats fair, that didn't make sense to me either. There is no reason for him to still be alive at that point, both of his persona's had died at that point so there is no consciousness left in the body.

I actually had no issue with Jinx being idle and not trying to fill Silco's spot. Jinx was never one to care about power. She's erratic and impulsive. She does what she thinks of as a way of getting back at some people or to get validation from daddy Silco. Or prove ot herself that she can pull it off and not a complete fuck up. Once Silco's dead there's no one left to seek approval from and the fact she's a fuck up is pretty much settled. So she's aimless. All she is is a land mine people would be better off not stepping on. I also don't think she's be waging an all out war. She'd just be fucking with enforcers sporadically for the heck of it.
What I don't like is that they basically removed the consequence of that life saving intervention that injected shimmer into her. Singed warned that it would make her very different. And when we see her again she's mad, and right after she uses the shimmer buff she goes nuts. The thing isn't a magic wand she can use at will. It gives her enhanced physical abilities but at the cost, at least momentary, of her sanity.
In this season, all of that is gone. She's basically just turned into a low grade super-hero.

    • @GenerationOffended
      @GenerationOffended  Місяць тому +9

I can see your point. From a story telling perspective its just more interesting when the villain has an ultimate goal, they really could have made it anything and it would have been better than aimlessly taking care of Isha. Characters are just less interesting when they don't have a goal they are working towards.
The shimmer thing is just forgotten about for some reason. You're right that clearly had a large impact on her psyche yet she just gets healed from it at the beginning of the season.

I loved season 1, and I still love it. Arcane season 1 is one of my favorite tv shows of all time. And to their credit, the animation and music in season 2 is absolutely insane. I still watch clips and listen to the tracks with my jaw on the floor at how everything looked and sounded in season 2. But as a story progressed, every episode left me more and more disappointed, and in some cases confused. And by the time I finished the show I REALLY was unimpressed with the story. It felt like the writers were more concerned at shoehorning every character to the end of their development so that players can go "omg, that's the character from the game now" instead of writing impactful stories for their characters and focusing on the natural story progression from where we left season 1.
Going into the season, I will say I was a little skeptical. Years ago when they hinted at Vander coming back to life in season 2, I thought that it would be a total assassination of the character development they worked so hard on with Jinx and Violet in season 1, and in bringing him back completely disrespects how emotionally gripping Vander's death was and what it did for the story. And I really hate being right about that too.
As a work of art, arcane 2 is seriously in a league of it's own, I could hang every frame on a wall and listen to the soundtrack on repeat, but I consider it a testament to how no amount of shiny paint can fix a bad script. However, so far it feels like that's not so true, as I'm incredibly surprised at the number of stellar reviews have been coming from the general public as well as critics.
When I finished watching it, I expected to see a fairly healthy amount of negative or even critical reviews, and seeing it get certified fresh, and a whole host of 10/10 reviews by fairly prominent and highly critical review channels was an absolute shock to me. Thanks for taking the time to formulate everything I was feeling as the show kept going within these videos. You're presentation is absolutely hilarious as well. Thank you XD.
