But all of the other ones have lasted forever. The new ones are stretchy/skinny jeans and after a couple of washes, they are stretched out! I was then told to get a smaller size. I bought a 4, they were very snug and washed them carefully in gentle cycle, cold and low heat dry. I didn’t even dry them completely. After sitting down once, I stood up and they turned into balloon pants! Does anyone else know why this happens and how to keep that from happening?

I give to my own charitable causes. Goodwill should NOT ask customers to give to their causes. Especially when every single thing they sell was GIVEN to them. Any money they make above and beyond basic operating costs should go to their charity. It blows my mind.

A lot of clothing that goes into goodwill doesn’t even get sorted and is just tossed in a dumpster or sent to the dealers who bale it up and send it overseas where they auction the bales to poverty stricken communities who sort through the ones they win and then sell the stuff that is in decent shape to make a living. What isn’t kept is sent to massive landfills. Also, anything that is donated to goodwill that is exceptionally nice is pulled and sent to goodwill’s equivalent of EBay. It’s a racket. My bother worked as the director of maintenance for over a decade. He made over $70k a year. The people working the retail level make pennies compared to what the higher ups do. I stopped shopping there a long time ago due to the prices. I only shop and donate to our locally owned, truly non profit stores now and I make sure to research where the money and merchandise goes.

Goodwill has priced themselves out of the thrift store market. I would rather just go buy new at the same price as buying used at Goodwill. I own a thrift/antique store and I look at an item and say “would I pay $3 for that?” If my answer is no, then the price is lower. It’s no good having a store full of items if you never sell anything……you can’t make any money with that plan.

Your mention of your store jogged a sweet memory for me. For many years there was a very nice little antique/vintage store near me. It was packed to the rafters with such lovely old stuff! The prices were a bit steep on some things-as it should be because they were nice, old things in great shape. But the ladies that ran it always gave me and my son a good "deal" on at least one item every time we went. I know they did the same for other customers, too. Sadly, Covid did them in, but I always wondered how they had been there for so many years, with their sweet, generous policy of cutting prices like that. Hopefully, they were rewarded in other ways, because they made shopping there such a joy. 🌹

Many a time, we find dozens of tags on the floor of the dressing rooms. One time I was in the back and a volunteer priced a vintage sweater for $20.00. 15 minutes later, I was up at the register and a lady brought up the sweater with a $3.99 tag on it. I said no that was just priced at $20.00. As the manager was there and said no that's a purple ticket item. She didn't cause a fuss but stormed out. She knew she was caught. Another time I had priced 3 figurines separately. Later the woman at the register came back to me and said, " I don't think this looks right." All of the figurines had masking tape wrapped around the 3 of them together. People will try to get away with anything. In the 20 yrs. I've been there, I've seen it all.@@mpls6124

A friend of mine volunteered at one thrift store and social security wouldn't label her as disabled. Goodwill let her come work for them for a month. They were able to help her document her memory issues (since she had worked so long at the one, she had that down to habit, it was messing her up.) Goodwill helped her with Social Security.

There are no sales, at all, in my city at Goodwill. No seniors day. No colors day. Nothing, and the prices are insane. Simetimes you can actually buy for cheaper at Walmart, which is right next door.

Julie, the igloo is hand painted in ceramic class , I’d say early 80s vintage!

That cute table was a bathroom set - before bathrooms! Those “cute” pieces on either side are for hanging your towel. A mirror probably sat on the back, and perhaps a pitcher of water and a bowl inside. Late 1800’s-early 1900’s. Priced right at $20.

I haven’t been to a GW in about 6 maybe 7 years. Not sure if I ever will again because I’ve heard that they have gotten expensive. People with low incomes go there because it’s a lot cheaper than department stores. I heard not anymore. Maybe one day soon I’ll go and see for myself.
