Great fun game. Picked it up last Friday. You and Rodney seems to understand how to make me spend money. Took it to the local company retail store today for lunch and played the taught the store manager how to play. Two games later he's hooked.
The family has been enjoying this game even with a few members not gamers. Thanks for the play video and a Solo Game which I have not yet done. Sleeves are also on order for my cards based on your suggestion. I like to sleeve my cards. Looking forward to your SHIFT card game play through after your preview had me fund the kickstarter. Hope you enjoy it as much as you did in the preview. Again, thanks for all your HARD work.
Just rewatched this and saw I could have pushed on at the 14:00 mark. I could have used the dragon bait to change the two monsters into dragons, used the champion to open all three chests, and hopefully pulled something out of the treasure to use as heroes to defeat the dragon. Love the subtle complexities of this game!
Because I only had one die in the graveyard, so I'd only get one back. At that point, with a 1 to 1 exchange, I felt I had what I wanted in play, die face wise, to move forward ok. You don't get the die back you use to quaff the potions, so I couldn't use one, then get it and the one in the graveyard back.
Crits Happen Ok. Thanks for clearing that up. We've been playing that if you use a dice to quaff it goes to the graveyard so you can then pull it back. If that is indeed wrong (which it probably is cos you guys are very vigilant) could you tell me which page on the rule book refers to that rule. Thanks!
Crits Happen It's ok, just read the rule and I think i'm right. On the page 'Forming a Party' the rules say "When used, Party dice are first placed into the Graveyard, and then their effects are carried out". So you could have done what I said originally no problem.
***** I don't believe it specifically has a "timing" piece in the rules. We've always played this way, where something being used, like in this case, can't be brought back, but that's how we interpreted the rules. There is a section, rereading the rulebook while researching an answer for you that says under the loot phase, "When used, party dice are first placed into the Graveyard, and then their effects are carried out." That one line, which I never noticed much before, could be interpreted that the dice you use to quaff goes first to the graveyard, and then you can pull it and the other one back as whatever face you want. If that's the case, we've been making it much harder on ourselves than we probably should have, but it concerns me as I liked that part of the game. If it's correct, playing that way, it makes it MUCH easier to delve deeper. I'll post a question on the BGG forum and see what I can find out, as now I'm curious as well which way is correct. :-)
***** Just found this: boardgamegeek.com/thread/1057180/quaffing-a-potion It says that yes, you can use the die used to quaff the potion to be brought back and has comments from those involved in the game design. Hope that helps... it sure does for us, as it'll make our runs a bit easier... although we like it so much, we may continue to play ours the way we have. Hope that helps.
I wish there was more interaction as well. We've done a house rule where your opponent rolls the monster dice for each level and if there is more than one opponent, they rotate rolling by each level. It's still a very fun game and something I love playing solo.
I've enjoyed this one quite a bit for a press your luck style game. Looking forward to their next expansion that comes out soon too! Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy it as much if you pick it up.
Excellent playthrough! Glad you enjoy it. I personally think it's a fantastic game, but I might be a little biased ;) and yes, all treasure is worth 1 point minimum this the gold coin on the back. Incidentally, since the target of the game is points scored you can speed up a 4 player game by playing with 2 boxes if it's available. Heck you could play a 23 player game if you had enough boxes.
I got an extra white die with blood spatter on it, which honestly we don't use much, and that was it. I wish I had more blood spattered dice though, as thematically it's cool to use as those you revive with potions.
The words "go ahead and" are very irritating to hear every other sentence, and never necessary in any sentence, unless you're doing a bit from "Office Space."
Hey, Tox- love your videos. Great job making it to level 10! I haven't managed it yet. Someone asked you about what kickstarter extras you got- you said only the blood spatter party due, but you also got 2 extra dungeon dice- the retail version components only include 7 dungeon dice. Wonder if that makes it easier or harder when using 9...
14:05 You could of used the dragon bait to turn the monsters into dragon dice and loot the chests *Note that if you have more than 3 dragon die in play it doesn't make it stronger
Sorry, should have kept watching! You correct yourself. Will end with another compliment though :). You have a great voice and level of energy for these instructionals. Other series lack both of those vital components.
Hm, didn't know that one. Good to know, we may have to try that out and see how it affects things. Might actually make it harder, but we'll see. Thanks, glad you liked it!
A humble adventurer you are. Not taking all the glory. You can count your Dragon scale as 1xp at the end of the game. If you have 2 then the pair count for 4xp (1xp each + 2xp bonus). End of the Game section in rulebook- Dragon Scales are worth an additional 2 Experience for each pair of them in your possession. I guess being a Paladin, that one bit of glory goes to your Deity.
On my first play thru with my kids, we didn't realize the exp point tokens had different values printed on the flip side: when we totaled they picked them up to add and promptly forgot which sides were the correct ones- ugh. We really enjoy the game, my only complaint would be this printing decision. Now we have to remind our fidgety players not to fuss with the exp tokens while waiting for their turns...
Awesome buddy you did it, level 10. I have this on order thru Cool stuff inc. I hope I get it soon. I downloaded some fantastic play mat pictures I printed and laminated from BGG. I want to play sooooo bad.
Pretty much the same thing. It is not intended to be a deep gaming experience, but more a casual game that can be played quickly. It does get a bit slow with 4 players and 2 seems to be the sweet spot.
Any stores that backed at the retail level should have theirs in stock. My FLGS has several copies (Wonkos in Austin Texas). If they didn't back it as a retailer, I'm not sure of the availability.
On level 2 of your second delve you should have used one of your scrolls to quaff both of the potions, this would have allowed you to pull two dice back from the graveyard so your party would be full again and you would have more companions.
I believe Tasty Minstrel has it on their site, but if not, CoolStuffInc, or other online gaming stores should have a copy here or there. Hope that helps.
I really don't like scroll which is probably why I usually play the Beguiler or the Dragon Slayer. Usually if I get a scroll playing a different character I'll use it to quaff a potion. I like to keep Town Portals since they are two XP. I don't usually go onto a level expecting to use it but the way you did allowed you to complete three more levels.
It takes three different types of heroes from your party to defeat a dragon, no matter how many dragon dice are in the dragon's lair. 3 Champs won't work, they need to be different types.
Yeah I really like this game, tought my freinds and can easily teach my family this .Its lite but its not trying to be any more than that, and I can appreciate it.Can't wait for expansions to enhance the game.I already pimped out my copy with a wooden treasure chest and the mousepads from artscow and I sleeved it and trimmed them up nice .
hmm I really enjoyed your playthrough, though I feel like the game kind of doesn't have much of an ending, it didn't take away from the fun you had playing through it. I do wonder what it plays like with multiple people now after seeing how it plays single, or is it just the same thing?
Both games are vastly different from a gameplay perspective and only share the dungeon delving thematic. I'd recommend dungeon roll because dungeon! can't really be played solo at all. Dungeon Roll on the other hand is a great push your luck dice game with a new twist and it doesn't solemnly rely on pure luck, the player has various options at his disposal. That said don't expect anything complex, it's a neat time waster and the components are great.
Awesome to hear! We are enjoying it too, as long as you take it lightly, I think it's a success!
Great fun game. Picked it up last Friday. You and Rodney seems to understand how to make me spend money. Took it to the local company retail store today for lunch and played the taught the store manager how to play. Two games later he's hooked.

Amazing luck you were pushing there. Awesome playthrough. Now I am more convinced that I have to get hold of this game ... Thanks for sharing!

8:47 - I'm a little bit confused. Why not use 1 of the 3 scrolls to quaff the 2 potions and bring 2 dice back as whatever you want.

Yes, Rodney does an excellent job and I like to highlight his work when possible :)

Hope it works out. Let them know we sent you their way if you don't mind! Always good for them to know where people hear about them from!

Hey great video but i know that you put sleeves in your cards but when you put it back in the treasure box it fits well?
I am so glad I backed this game
In multiplayer games, late game is tense as you try to make a comeback sometimes.
I believe Tasty Minstrel has it on their site, but if not, CoolStuffInc, or other online gaming stores should have a copy here or there. Hope that helps.

I literally just got Shift today upon returning from Gen Con. Looking forward to playing it myself :)

so did you get an extra white die and extra dungeon die from the kickstarter? I just have seven and seven in my game.
Yeah I really like this game, tought my freinds and can easily teach my family this .Its lite but its not trying to be any more than that, and I can appreciate it.Can't wait for expansions to enhance the game.I already pimped out my copy with a wooden treasure chest and the mousepads from artscow and I sleeved it and trimmed them up nice .
so is this similar to D&D?
No.
Hi, can u say me what kind of sleeves u have used?
thanks
Correct me if I'm wrong, but couldn't you have defeated all of the dragons with a single Champion? (6:00 mark)
The game is a fun solo game. I wish there was more interaction in a multi-player game instead of just playing multiple single player games.
When does this come out in stores?
Thanks, I'm glad it's both fun and entertaining :)
hmm I really enjoyed your playthrough, though I feel like the game kind of doesn't have much of an ending, it didn't take away from the fun you had playing through it. I do wonder what it plays like with multiple people now after seeing how it plays single, or is it just the same thing?
I was worried I wouldn't get to level 10 doing a live play but it worked out well :)
Cool, best of luck, it's a fun one!
where could this game be purchased?
My family really likes this one!
which ones better for solo play? Dungeon! or dungeon roll?
Both games are vastly different from a gameplay perspective and only share the dungeon delving thematic. I'd recommend dungeon roll because dungeon! can't really be played solo at all. Dungeon Roll on the other hand is a great push your luck dice game with a new twist and it doesn't solemnly rely on pure luck, the player has various options at his disposal. Think you forgot to get your Treasure after defeating the Dragon at the end of Delve 1. Great run through though, as your videos always are.
How do you have so many dice?
I only have 7 party dice and 7 dungeon dice.
I don't know what to tell you on that, that's what came with mine.
It's a Kickstarter variant.
i thought only champions and theifs could drink potions or is that only for chests?
Any party die, even scrolls, can be used to coif a potion :) Chests are only Champs and thieves though.
Crits Happen I thought anyone can open A treasure chest but only a thief can open all. Similar to how fighters can defeat all goblins.
My buddy and I are in the habit of calling the undead "Dechion" from the D&D cartoon.
LOL, yes, it's hard to not play with chips, even as small as these are :) Hope you are enjoying it!
Another great video ! Thanks
That could take a while! Fun, but long!
I found it on eBay, but it's a bid, so thanks man, I'll check them out!
Dragons take 3 different hero types to defeat no matter how many dragons are in the Lair.
Hmm I have 2 stores that I know of and neither backed it
Thanks ill try that
A friend maked app at apple store for dungeon roll
Thanks
By jove you're right, I scored that wrong! Thanks!
thanks!
I like that, might steal it :)
I know Wonko's had it in stock last week here in Austin. You can always call them and possibly order from them? Their website is wonkos[dot]com
And the dragon fights you when you get 3+ in the Lair
cool gameplay :)
I just added an annotation for that, but here is the link: youtube[dot]com/watch?v=I7vORp9Qfqc
Great way of cross promotion with watch it played.^^
