The thing is, James Bond is based off of three real people, Ian Fleming, Roald Dahl, & Christopher Lee. The Beretta .25 was most likely the gun Christopher Lee used when he was a spy in WW2.

Source? Funny how you can ask who is the inspiration behind Bond and you get 50 different answers.
Bond wasn't based on Roald Dahl or Christopher Lee. He was mainly based on Ian Fleming himself, his brother Peter and some officers Fleming met during the war. He wasnt based on that serbian agent as some say, or Christopher Lee, or similar people. Its nonsense and there is no proof.

@@volk551There’s little doubt that Lee at the very least exaggerated some aspects of his life. For example, he claimed to have witnessed the last public guillotining in France; he almost certainly didn’t. He claimed to have hunted Nazis after the war; he didn’t. He appears to have been an intelligence liaison and translator in the RAF; perfectly creditable, and special forces-adjacent, but not remotely Bond-like.

Fleming still got it wrong. Boothroyd suggested the PPK in .380 and Fleming gave him the .32. He also had him carrying it in a holster made for a revolver. Donald Hamilton was more practical with Matt Helm--no holster, too hard to get rid of (and the literary Helm was a much scarier guy than he was depicted in the films).

Oddly, the PPK while more powerful than the Beretta.25 caliber shoots the 32 ACP which isn’t much better. Way less powerful than a 9mm which has been around long before Bond.

Jeffrey Bothyroyd, many good books on guns by himself, he compiled the still used today British Gunmakers book 👍 Ian Fleming’s phone number was BEL0007 when he had his place in SW1 !
