About The Killers:
The Killers are a Las Vegas-based four-piece who formed in 2003, featuring the talents of singer/keyboardist Brandon Flowers, drummer Ronnie Vanucci, guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer. The band has received countless accolades for their artistic achievement, including multiple Grammy nominations, American Music Award nominations, MTV Video Music Awards, NME Awards and more.Their first album, Hot Fuss, was released in 2004 to worldwide acclaim. The album contained the singles “Mr. Brightside” and “Somebody Told Me,” in addition to the anthemic song “All These Things That I’ve Done,” which has since been referenced by the likes of U2 and Coldplay. The band toured for two years straight behind Hot Fuss, playing more than four-hundred shows, and eventually returned to Vegas to begin to work on the follow-up album with legendary producers Alan Moulder and Flood. The result, a love letter of sorts to their hometown entitled Sam’s Town, was released in 2006 and spent forty-two weeks on the Billboard Top 200.A b-sides collection entitled Sawdust was released in 2007, followed by their third studio album, Day & Age, which was released to widespread critical praise in 2008, anchored by massive single “Human.”The Killers released Battle Bornin September 2012, which saw them expanding their world tour into countries they’ve never visited before, and finally were honored to perform at the world-renowned Wembley Arena, one of the most monumental and significant shows of their career. After a decade of making music, in November 2013, The Killers released a “Best Of” collection, Direct Hits, which featured two incredible new songs alongside classics from the band’s revered catalogue. The band, who have sold over twenty-five million albums worldwide, and headlined all of the world’s top festivals (Coachella, Lollapalooza, Glastonbury), released their newest studio album, Wonderful Wonderful, in September 2017, where it landed at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart the week of its release, as well a stopping the charts in the U.K. and Australia. The album is the band’s fifth consecutive number one in the U.K., and Brandon Flowers’ seventh U.K. number one overall.

As a huge Joy Division fan I really enjoy this cover. I like that it's close enough to the original that the song isn't lost, but it's different enough to be its own.
What a wonderful comment. Seriously, there's so much hate on The Killers for covering this song...saying how they suck in comparison and shouldn't have done this cover. The Killers are my favorite band, and thanks to them, I got into listening to Joy Division! They are awesome!!! So it's nice to see positive comments like these!
Elisa Sanchez yeah i don't understand why people seem to dislike this cover its was made really well and had its own vibe and love the fact that in the video they make a reference to Joy Division original. well you know how that goes people hate to love and love to hate.
Joy Division is one of my favorite bands. And this is everything a cover should be. Although it probably wasn't the best way to end Control. Also the Killers were always very open about how much they were influenced by New Order.
yessss!!! this is what really got me into the killers.. joy division lives on through them
Spoopy Bat
This cover is one of the best tributes of all time that Ian Curtis deserved.
From this occasion The Killers established themselves as a legendary band.
]😊-]
NIN/"dead souls" is best tribute
The actual answer is Trent Reznor's Dead Souls, but this is a good second place. No shame in coming second to Nine Inch Nails
@@bigguy1164 It's fing incredible.
I was 17, Woodstock 94.
Not mention one best performances of alltime that night.
Primus & Green Day & Blind Melon killed it too
HOW did the Killers pay a perfect tribute to a classic Joy Division song AND still retain their own signature rock sound ??? *INCREDIBLE* !!! I LOVE JD *AND* THE KILLERS !!!
Someone2024?
Someone here 🫡
Yep back again

I've been watching this video since it dropped on UA-cam in 2009😂
yeth.
To the center of the city where all roads meet, waiting for you,
To the depths of the ocean where all hopes sank, searching for you,
I was moving through the silence without motion, waiting for you,
In a room with a window in the corner I found truth.
In the shadowplay, acting out your own death, knowing no more,
As the assassins all grouped in four lines, dancing on the floor,
And with cold steel, odor on their bodies mad a move to connect,
But I could only stare in disbelief as the crowds all left.
I did everything, everything I wanted to,
I let them use you for their own ends,
To the center of the city in the night, waiting for you.
To the center of the city in the night, waiting for you.
* In a room without a window in the corner
because we are still waiting for you
I first heard this song not realizing it was a cover when I was 14, wasn't much of a killers fan, and found it so strange that I was so drawn into this song.
6 years later with my taste of music changing from pop rock, to alt rock, to blues rock, indie rock, to gothic rock, to post-punk. I discover Joy Division, and find out this masterpiece was a cover. As much as my taste in music has changed, I realized I pretty much still like the same stuff I did when I was 14.
Dude, the exact same thing happened to me!!
I am very much the same. I think I found this back when I was maybe 16 or 17. Didn't get into stuff like Joy Division until I was 23 maybe. Was very surprised to discover this was a cover. I'm not a Killers fan but I def recognized they did some different stuff so I figured this was part of it and not a cover. I mean, I love a lot of their Holiday songs despite not listening to their hits.
Bro try growing up to your dad listening to nothing but “new wave” and unknown pleasures, don’t turn on day of the lords! Sitting in a dark room. Crying about, “she didn’t love me”. Then you grow up and have the same love in music due to depression!!
This always has been and always will be not only one of my favorite covers but a perfect masterpiece of Control footage. The way that they have Ian watching the killers and The Killers watching Ian is chilling and telling.
I remember first hearing "Love will tear us apart" around 1981 when WMMR in Philadelphia was in its heyday. When legendary Michael Tearson announced the song, it was just a year after Ian Curtis tragic, untimely death..
It wasn't easy to follow their music and biography not having the technology and social media you have today.
Then when "Control" was released it didn't matter what a downer of a movie it was, it was actually quite good, and it was really about the music.
And The Killers did a great job with covering Shadowplay, and the video was very well created and produced. It fit right in with the movie.
Sure it's not Joy Division, but it's a great tribute and it stands up on its own.
They're a great band!
I disagree on control, it was a good movie, but the focus was definitely more on Ian's personal life that the music
That was the point, since it was based on the book his wife wrote. The best summary of JD's music career and influence is in 24 Hour Party People where JD and NO feature as the base for the Madchester scene of the 80s/90s.
I regret watching Control. It still breaks to know how Ian lived his life and how he could have been
Irma Ramirez jajajaja esa mamada

I wonder why The Killers changed the lyric. It should be: In a room with a window in the corner I found truth. (That's how it's written in the book Touching from a Distance, which has the lyrics.)
Thanks.
Luis Irastorza Valera exactamente
manualidades paso a paso
That 70's clash with tambourine and the guitar is spot on. Fuckin love this cover!
The guitar solo at the 3:05 is the reason why I'm alive and have given myself brain damage in the process of uncontrollably head banging to it
It actually turns into a bass solo.
This makes me want a mini series or Netflix movie about the band. Like a reenactment
Charles Harvey hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! Yes, I want this too! Hope they will made this one day. HBO would be better, becouse the fav caracthers die in the first Episode, but the Second Rest of the cast ...
there's a movie called Control
some scenes in thie video are from control
@@resilientmisery its about joy division they also dun shadowplay
24 Hour Party people.. and Yes of course Control..
I can't believe someone didn't like this cover. Think it is amazing
I actually heard this song before the original on Sawdust when I was 13, probably why I love it so much. Honestly a very loving and interesting interpretation with clear respect to Curtis and the original.
I love both The Killers and Joy Division. This is a fantastic cover and the song and the movie Control, who's images are featured in the video, are what got me into Joy Division in the first place. I view the cover as a proper and great tribute to a band that I'm sure The Killers are huge fans of as well.
Do you like Huey Lewis & The News?
@@joannaferris2232 Of course
Usually when bands cover a song and change it around too much it backfires horribly, but this version of Shadowplay I love almost a much as the original. Feels like rediscovering the original, but with a new taste put to it.
Of course we can compare this song to the orginal, but i think both are great. Why? Because they're completely different. I think it would be awful if they were the same. Congratulations to the Killers for creating something fresh, new and also to JD for giving them an inspiration.
I love Joy Division and The Killers too but this cover is amazing!
com certeza!
I think so!!! umbelieveble!!!
I love Joy Division and The Killers. And covers don't like me but this... MY GOD. It's one of my favorites ever
Alondra Ramirez Agreed!
concordo
It's good, but the best Shadowplay cover is from the Australian band Ikon. And it si also among the best JD covers. Another excellent JD cover is Decades by Peter Hook and his orchestra (see Ekaterinburg live).
This is my first time hearing the Killers version and it's pretty damn solid.
People are too defensive, every cover I watch, the comments are full of people hating the cover. I know when you love a song it`s hard to listen to another band covering it but in a way I think that`s the magic of music covers, it`s the artist take on the song, the original music is altered by the covering band way of playing and that creates a new way o enjoy and see the original song. In my opinion in every case, the original version of the song is the best one, but I respect the covers and really like some of them
k
João Victor Daijó I myself prefer this cover to the original, but I was never emotionally invested in Joy Division, prefer New Order to them
I only 👍 so I could be 69!
I think covers can definitely be better sometimes. Hurt by Johnny Cash > Hurt by NIN.
Well, New Order liked the cover, so I'm thinking it was pretty ok. LOL Its a great cover for sure and done right. But Joy Division, well theres nothing like them.
haha I love how in the begining Ian is like "Sshh the Killers are on!!"
No me canso de oir este rolon!!!! Es una verdadera maravilla de cancion!!!!
Huge respect for bands who aren't afraid to show they're also fans at heart ❤ :) Great cover, congrats!!
Tremendous version. Have always thought apart from Moby''s New Dawn Fades it's the best Joy Division cover. Less said about Paul Young the better
Damn, such a great cover
This is one of the greatest covers of all time. It was done respectfully & is a fitting tribute to Joy Division & the brilliance of Ian Curtis.
That breakdown... Holy shit is that powerful...
I prefer the instrumentals in this version, but the vocals in JD's version. Either way, both are great(as long as we know who the original was ;) ) And this music video was a nice tribute to Joy Division
what happened to them?
miguel rodriguez The lead singer, Ian Curtis commited suicide at a young age. The rest of the band is still around, but they changed there name to "New Order".
+Nevi1097 no shit sherlock!
+jason harte WHY YOU MAD BRUHHH!?!?
The music video is part of a movie.
I love this cover so fucking much
Unlike most covers where they are similar with the original, The Killers make this cover their own while respecting the original song.
It's fucking amazing. 2020 and I still don't hear anything like them. The Killers and Interpol do an admirable job, but they were so ahead of their time
I was raised to Joy Division and when I was about 6 years old, The Killers became my favorite band. And when my mom bought me their B Sides album, I lost my shit when this song came on because I already loved Joy Division. 10 years later I still love Joy Division and The Killers!
Damn, I fuckin' love the Killers.
You can immediately tell it’s joy decision. Which for me is super important. I hope they play it in Manchester tonight
Saw these dudes at the Ejekt Festival and they nailed this song! They did also play a longer version of it which was epic. How can some people dislike this track? It is a cover and the point of "covering" is to put your own twist on it and i know it sounds different but it is still a cool song :D
a-hopeless-embrace , idont now, your sexuality usted not my importance. no Baby!!!

The Bowie references at 1:30 and 2:49. If you'll look closely, you'll notice that at 1:30 they are at a Ziggy Stardust concert, and at 2:49 there is a poster for Heathen, the album Bowie released in 2002.
Ziggy Stardust there is a slight reference to new order too. The "get ready" album cover can be seen on the wall.
Yeah you know that's because that is from the movie control
And Ian Curtis was at that concert
Curtis was a known fan of Bowie
hyennuh ... and the Killers take their Name from the MusicVideo of Crystal by New Order... from the Album „get ready“ ... and i like this coverversion. Maybe AC Shot the Video
sex pistols 1:45
I love Joy Division and The Killers, so this cover it's perfect to me.
Lovely Mafs Girls with good music vibes
+Lovely Mafs There's one of love will tear us apart by the cure, you may concern.

+Lovely Mafs This cover makes me want to cut my own eyes out.
One of my favorites cover ever ❤️ love The Killers
Pure talent nothing else
excelente COVER DEL GRAN IAN CURTIS
Such a good song, a classic. Simple but perfect.
This song is amazing. The Killers are such a good band. I love their music style. Greetings from Brazil.
ESPECTACULAR!!! awesome!!!! gran homenaje a Ian Curtis
If you ignore how different it is from the original, this is a good song. I think the turnoff was the change from a deep goth voice to a pop rock voice.
I USUALLY HATE COVERS BUT I LOVE THIS ONE.
+Phancy Daddyshrek69 holy shh the phandom is everywhere

+JonnySplitz I actually really love joy division, so of course I've listened to Shadowplay along with all of unknown pleasures and closer.

This cover brings a new shine to the song while still keeping that tence explosive expression that was so joy division.
Jesus i love both these bands. This song is a hybrid of pure awesomeness...
Excellent cover from the ever beautiful killers. From one of the best movies ever made.
Wow, this is over 11 Years old... This sounds like it could have been made today
Truly an amazing cover, the killers putting out their own artistic version of a well loved song from a legendary band
I love how Ian Curtis in 3:15 Is In Sync With The Songs Solo That Epileptic Dance Is Legendary
i love the killers 😍❤❤
This cover consistently remains a song that I cannot get enough of, years later still
The Killers put on an amazing show!
How lucky I was to come accross this song today. The lyrics are just perfect. The rest is perfect too. As usual in your music. That is my opinion. 🦉🦉🤘🤘❤❤
There's three problems when covering a Joy Division track: Matching the musical arrangement; hitting the drums and Ian's vocals. This track does pretty well
One of the best covers I ever saw...very impressive!
this is sick, love both versions. I did not know the killers covered this
Still prefer the Joy Division version, but here are The Killers showing how you make a good cover!
P Zkd Agree!!
I think this beats the Joy Division just in its attempt not to be such a downer. Not sure of a better way to say it
They nailed this!!!
I'm gonna be completely honest, so draw your knives hipsters and be ready to slaughter me. But I thought this was a The Killers song. Then I found out about Joy Division. And loved it as well. Do you know that moment when you've listened to a song so many times you've lost the inital rush you got from it. Well, the impossible happened and I got it back again by listening to it newly again through Joy Division. So I won twice as far as I'm concerned. 2 for me. 1 for every hipster in here picking only one side. Hipster on, ya dirty hipster. Choke on your ironic hipster stache.
JacksInn Hilarious!
JD is not a hipster band. We are pretty chill. Don't let hot topic posers fool you, haha.
Same here
I was born in 02 so I grew up with the killers so the killers were actually the ones to show me joy division so honestly when I didnt know this was a cover it was pretty understandable.
Joy Division is not hipster. They're a goth/post-punk band from late 70s/early 80s lol
If you have never seen The Killers live, then you are doing yourself a HUGE disservice! There are so few bands that are what they are in the studio AND on stage - they are one of them! AND IT'S GLORIOUS!
one of the best songs ever...wow!!! delighted
soss ssas AMEN!, alguien me entiende alv
Estoy de acuerdo contigo man ✌👍
Stannis for king

They DID play this in Manchester, although they had to restart it due to 68 year old Billy aka Doug crowd surfing and hurting his head. Fantastic gig though, well worth the wait! 😀
This song kills me!
One would never know this is a cover. One of my favorite Killer songs.
Best song ever!! 🙌
Beautiful
Aw 🥺 jaja
Que lindo...
I loved the film "Control", and of course the soundtrack as well. Great Joy Division cover by The Killers. ❤
The Killers have clearly done a great job here, but there is something about the original recording's intense, haunting sense of momentum that The Killers just couldn't capture
I completely disagree with the ppl who r mad at them for making this cover cuz I never get tired of listening to it and I still love the JD version
I love both bands, especially Joy Division. I think it's a really good cover.
Total classic!
This music video has to go down as one of the best of all time.
One of my best song ever. Good vibes, motivation : perfect
l luv the irony of a band that named itself after a fictional band in another bands clip that they admire, which is the reminiscence of the band that made the original of this cover song. That made sense right.
Didn't make much sense but I know exactly what you mean
I heard this version before the original as well, and it might be why I'm more partial to it. I like the original as well, but this will always be the version that plays in my head. Sawdust was released when I was just becoming a teenager, and that album, among others, kind of set a tone for my musical taste later on. Gotta love The Killers, man. I've been listening to them since I was ten, and I'm pretty sure I'll never stop.
The Horrors “No Love Lost” is really good too. Thank you for doing this justice. Rip Ian ❤
El mejor tributo-cover de la historia!
This is the Song ❤
