Tagan was probably her mothers name. Or it could be that Torren was her father's middle name or something like that, it would still count towards her naming Torren after her father.
First, this is a continuity error, not a blooper, and secondly Tagan was her mother. Torren is her father's name. It's like in Vikig cultures - the girls last name was after their mother (eg Freyasdotter) and the boys after their father (eg Snorrisson). ;-) Nice work spotting it anyway.
I think my imagination started running and i took it as if Teyla would have been arguing with herself. put a wide smile on my face. Actually made me laugh. Ty for posting this.
Well its obvious ours is most definitely a patriarchal society, as many have mentioned already, Tagaan is probably her mother's name, but for most that didn't even pop into their heads that she would place more significance on the name of her mother when introducing herself than she would her father's name.
Tagan could have very well been her mother and Torran been her father. Writers wouldn't make that big of a mistake. Also seeing as how her people seem to be female dominant it would make sense that she reference her mother instead of her father.
LOL! Me either! I was just thinking what is the blooper here. But as said here before Toren is prolly her father's name and Tagan mother's name. So no blooper then..
Yeah, I also notice that but after all maybe in their culture they take mother's name (for Emmagan)and so her father's name would be Torren Tagan...that's I think the only explanation about it !
@andrumac88 What? No she didn't. "My father." And the baby's father is called Kanaan. As has been mentioned several times, Tagan is her mother and Toran is her father. I don't know why the author of this video assumed that "Daughter of Tagan" must mean that Tagan is her father. Seems somewhat chauvinistic (in its meaning relating to gender).
i read something a while ago in a fic, i found it pretty funny and it just popped into my mind when i heard this. (dialogue in rising) teyla: "I am teyla emmagan, daughter of tagan." sheppard: "this is colonel sumner, son of a bit*h!" >:)>:) that sounded apropriate:>:D (well dont get mad lol)
LOL! Hey that's not fair, you don't really know WHICH name of her father's Teyla was taking. It might even be a family name - it could be an ancestor who was called Tegaan... 'daughter of Tegaan'. AND we don't know - Tegaan might be her mother.
Though dont forget they do like to change names IE Colonel Jonathan 'Jack' O'Neil in Stargate and Colonel Jack O'Neill in SG-1. But meh, does it really matter at the end of the day its Atlantis :D
I'm sorry, mais je ne parle pas francais I'm Teyla Daughter of Tagan, it COULD be the second name of her father, OR the name from her mother, or the backname from her mother ;) It doesn't always have to be the father's name and i am sure it is the second name, because teyla gives the baby 2 names ;) so i guess her father would have had 2 names too
so is it kinda like how the nietzcheans state their full names w/heritage? for ex: "Tyr Anasazi, out of Victoria by Barbarossa"? it's from the sci-fi series "Andromeda" ...just curious. xP
But she said that she will name the child of her father Torren :D but her father is Tagan...anless Tagan is the real name and Torren is his pet name :D looool
Teyla never said Tagan was her father. Very sexist to assume it was. Reminds me of the story of the little boy in a car crash with his father. At the hospital the surgeon is unable to operate on the boy. Why? Because the surgeon is his mother. Most people don't figure it out because they assume the surgeon must be a man. Like I said - very sexist.
Whoa, they failed miserably there. Geez, who ever wrote the script must have been drunk. And for Gods sake, doesn't any one on the show keep track on such things?
Dang! 2 dads! wait a minute .. does that mean.. 2 guys.. imprignated the other? uuuuhuhhhhhihuuhuhuhhh..h.h.... asjd gay . :( thats why he never mensions the father.
Tagan was probably her mothers name.

It was not a mistake ! Tagan was her mother's name :)
Torren was the name of the captured Athosian man that was killed by the Wraith in the pilot.
I don't know what's sadder, the fact that you drew that comparison, or the fact that I know exactly what you're talking about.
lol, reminds me of the hospitalized child and parent riddle...
not that much of a blooper, but amusing :)
"Torin... Tagan. Torin.... Tagan" :D
ZOMG! Teyla's got two daddys!!!
Well its obvious ours is most definitely a patriarchal society, as many have mentioned already, Tagaan is probably her mother's name, but for most that didn't even pop into their heads that she would place more significance on the name of her mother when introducing herself than she would her father's name.
looool i didnt get the blooper after i saw the end of the video :D :D
Actually the director said in an interview that she was talking about her mother. I think.
Maybe on Athos, the female is the leader and Tagan is her mother
Tagan could have very well been her mother and Torran been her father. Writers wouldn't make that big of a mistake. Also seeing as how her people seem to be female dominant it would make sense that she reference her mother instead of her father.
that is what you call an "oops"
...ummm, both? xP lol ok, i'll just keep my mouth shut then... *skips away*
LOL! Me either! I was just thinking what is the blooper here. But as said here before Toren is prolly her father's name and Tagan mother's name. So no blooper then..
the real way Tagohn John Emogen sounds kinda funny lol
That was a very good catch lol!
lol took me to the end to get it
lol thats what i thought.... i watched it and was confused during the premiere
You gave me a chuckle :)
So Tayla has two fathers....I bet one was a wraith, that's where she got her superpowers! lol
Yeah, I also notice that but after all maybe in their culture they take mother's name (for Emmagan)and so her father's name would be Torren Tagan...that's I think the only explanation about it !
Tagan must be her mother.
Even if they wern't thinking that, it's their cover now.
@andrumac88 What? No she didn't. "My father." And the baby's father is called Kanaan.

yup thats true. :)
They showed him. He was one of the Athosians that got hybrid-ized. His name is Kanan.
Tagan is her mother, she just says, "Daughter of Tagan."
Taurin is her father.
therefore no blooper
Torren, not Taurin
Though dont forget they do like to change names IE Colonel Jonathan 'Jack' O'Neil in Stargate and Colonel Jack O'Neill in SG-1. But meh, does it really matter at the end of the day its Atlantis :D
I noticed that too and it always bugged me.....but i never considered it Tagan could be her mothers name
i knew the name for her father was wrong the minute i saw the episode! i couldnt remember her fathers name but i knew it was was wrong!
LOL :-)
Tughan is her mothers name.
erm Tagon was his last name... like tayla amagen, so it was toran tagan
in many cultures women call themselves their mother's daughters and men call themselves their father's son.
Maybe it was just a nickname after Tagan. You know, how Will is the nickname of William. But that's just my theory
dragonchief: they mean TEYLA'S father. Not Torrens. So I would hope that Teyla doesn't get married to her father. lol.
I'm sorry, mais je ne parle pas francais
I'm Teyla
Daughter of Tagan, it COULD be the second name of her father, OR the name from her mother, or the backname from her mother ;)

i see where thats going lol the changed the name how dare they lol
Tagan is her mother name
But she said that she will name the child of her father Torren :D but her father is Tagan...anless Tagan is the real name and Torren is his pet name :D looool
Maybe it's just a name for his father and not THE name of his father that she gave him...it's maybe not a mistake
lol ooooopsy!
heheh *smug*
middle name? doubt it... this is one of the weird mistakes stargate has made and they need to be WAY more careful.
epic fail
I thought the same thing.
Anyone ever think that Torren is first name andd Tagan is last name?
mabe she came3 up with tourin on her own......oh wait, never mind, after her father duh your right tagan, not tourin
lol
in an alien culture Tagan may be a feminine name
but she says after her father
the kid is teyla and shepard ones??
Holy crap, do you guys have too much time on your hands.
Teyla never said Tagan was her father. Very sexist to assume it was. Reminds me of the story of the little boy in a car crash with his father. That's not so much a blooper as a continuity error. Now excuse while I give myself a swirly for being that damn nerdy.
she could be high too
i didnt notice that!!
epic failure...
im confuesed??
Dang! 2 dads! wait a minute .. does that mean.. 2 guys.. imprignated the other? uuuuhuhhhhhihuuhuhuhhh..h.h.... asjd gay . :( thats why he never mensions the father.
Haha, lol =P FAIL!
