  • I was surprised at how different the Veteran Patton is from my Sherman S. First ride impressions in this fairly unedited footage.
    Hope you enjoy, cheers!

    Great ride review! I love my Patton, but once I changed the tire to the Shinko SR 241 it went to the next level. It has the profile of a street tire and a stiff carcass, but serious enough knobs to beat the stock tire in any conditions, on-road or off. It’s the one missing piece of the Patton puzzle.

    Interesting to hear first impressions from a Sherman rider. I have the Patton and ridden it about 250 miles, mostly off-road, pretty technical stuff. My other off-road wheel is the Master (not-pro version). The larger diameter tire on the Master is less fatiguing over long distances and although the Patton suspension is easier to adjust and quieter, I don't have any issues with the Master suspension. I did find the Patton's small tire a little too "playful" on occasion - especially at higher speeds on the road. It wandered and occasionally went in unintended directions which was disconcerting. The Master and its Kenda tire are stable at speed. On the Patton plus side in the Master vs. Patton comparison, the Patton has good range and seems to use its battery more frugally than the Master with 40S cells. Power-wise, they feel pretty equal, though maybe the Master has better top end and it is certainly more stable when riding at those higher speeds. Agree about the Patton pedals. They don't grip well enough on the technical stuff. I don't "fall in love" with a new wheel early on. It takes me about 200 miles to get used to something new and I try to withhold judgment until I'm familiar with the wheel.

      Good policy, this is the first wheel I was very interested in immediately. I had to go home and think about the V11. The Sherman S took the Street tyre to convert me!
      The Patton wondering sounds sketchy, is that on the stock offroad tyre?
      That's good news that the larger 20" master is comparable in power feel. That's what i'm hoping for the Lynx.
      Cheers!

      @@jonoeuc Yes, stock tire. It's fine off-road, but on the street at higher speeds, not so much. I wonder what the tire selection is like for the 12" rim. My guess would be no fancy Michelin Pilot XYZ whatever tire would be available. I do use that tire on one of mine and it is good to the point of transformative. It's just not for off-road 🙂

      I'm riding a ks 16s 840wh battery right now, absolut love it but I'm looking for something with suspension as well as a larger tire, longer range and higher top speed, the Patton and Lynx seem like really good alternatives but I'm worried about the weight since it's literally twice as heavy,

    Great review. You are very smooth on it. I love my Patton (first wheel was a V8S). FWIW I ride hard surfaces with the street tire option that came from ewheels. I recently changed shoes from high top motorcycle riding shoes to low motorcycle boots with ankle protection. That change has made a big difference in the brake wobbles and squirleyness when going faster. The boots are essentially rigid side to side which has really cleaned up my experience.

    I personally went knobby due to a good amount of trails in my area, but since I mostly use my Patton on the road for college commute and after getting used to the knobby on the street, I can say I really love the way it feels. It’s more stable and predictable than a street tire which u feel would be too squirrelly on a 16” wheel, and I just love the sound it makes when accelerating hard. Really lets people know I’m coming since this thing is so quiet disregarding the wheel noise.

    About braking.. I am scared of braking on my wheel, I feel like I don't know where the limit is and I'll fall to my back. Do wheels commonly adjust the tilt angle, as in dynamic tilt but forwards when braking too hard?

    • @jonoeuc
      @jonoeuc  7 місяців тому +2

      i've over braked my Sherman S. What happens is the motor is overpowered which means the magnets start slipping. So the wheel can't remain properly upright and starts to sag backwards. It still has resistance and it was easy to recover each time.
      It required great force on the front handle so it shouldn't be an issue when braking without the handle.
      hope that helps,
      jono

  • @Pogodindenis
    @Pogodindenis 7 місяців тому +1

    Hi, do you plan to change your Sherman S to the Lynx? What's your attitude towards new 150-v wheel from Leaperkim? Do higher voltage really makes the difference? it has 150v but only 2700 wh battery whereas Sherman S sports 3600 wh. Im on the fence now

    • @jonoeuc
      @jonoeuc  7 місяців тому +2

      Hey, pogo that's the question I'm currently tackling.
      I'm 'almost' thinking of pre selling my Sherman S.
      here is some reasons:
      It seems higher voltage wheels tend to be easier to accelerate and brake making them more like magic carpets and effortless.
      The battery hit is the major drawback which isn't a problem for the VAST majority of my riding. I like to go fast to where I'm going and typically only use 50% of the SS battery. Luckily as a relatively light rider my batter use is somewhat decent in that regard.
      *rough estimates*
      My max battery rate on the SS is around 37wh/km giving range: 97km // 60miles
      this very roughly translates to around 73km // 45miles range on the Lynx. Suitable for my use. And it's rare I'd actually ride that hard.
      My actual SS range test got 110km // 68miles
      The Lynx has a loss of more battery parallel packs reduces redundancy and the associated safety. (Perhaps someone can elaborate - I'm not confident in this area)
      My whole outlook has shifted after my test ride on the Patton. It made it far more enjoyable to just ride. I'm hoping the Lynx has similar characteristics as the Patton but in a 20" form factor --> effortless power for acceleration and braking (I like to lean hard).
      Progressive suspension vs SS Linear should improve comfort substantially.
      Summary: the only reason for the SS over the Lynx IMO is for long range cruising, or less often charging.
      Bad news, you'll want this wheel if the range isn't prohibitive for you haha
      hope that helps
      cheers, jono

      @@jonoeuc most of the time I don't need all my sherman s battery too. But sometimes Im happy that its there. You know on the long and fan rides. But in a light of Lynx performance I think about changing my wheel. It weighs less, its zippier, better suspension, better battery management. At the same time the technology is very new, it needs time to be tested. I think it would be better for me to get Lynx instead of Sherman S next year. May be I'll choose 2 or 3 batch of the wheel
