  • The Tactical Delta Loop antenna (CHA TDL), is a portable High Frequency (HF) antenna specially designed for transportability, quick setup, and a small footprint. In this video I try it with the CHA MIL 2.0 whip to make it more compact!

New Ham here Just passed the Technical and General in one sitting. I'm really digging the antenna stuff while I wait to move out to the family farm and setup the shack. Keep it up!

My TDL has become my go to antenna for POTA and camping. I bought the mil whip and extension to use vertical and keep it all together in the bag. It’s pricey but it’s well made and works great.

Thanks Chuck! I have the MPAS 2.0 and TDL parts. Found your review and use to be accurate and honest. Excellent for regional NVIS 40/80 and I’m using mine for mobile EMCOMM. Works best when all targeted contacts are also NVIS.

Thanks Gary, I did order another 17' whip so I can set it up like intended and will report back on that. I was just being a ham and using what I had with the shorter whips and experimenting and was happy with the results on the higher bands making contacts the next day into Maryland and South Dakota on 17m. Thank you for the comment and watching!!

@@KK6USYHamRadioAdventures The Hustler QD-2 quick disconnect mounted to my light bar makes a 5 minute deploy, very easy. Just mount the male to the bar and the female to the TDL adapter and its done. Really like it. Would gladly send pics. 73

Regional comms is 400 miles radius. That's what you can expect for 20m of wire set up low as EFHW. With your buddies out only 50 miles, you should be seeing 20 over s9.
This is just not a good antenna for 40m and lower.

I have the CHA TDL in my Go Bag and it's a good antenna for what it's to be used for. I also keep a CHA EMCOMM IIIP, which is a little more of a pain to set up but better, but the TDL can get set up in like 4 minutes. On a side note, if you can get the CHA TDL up even just 6 or 10 feet (obviously you can't use the spike ... but a small tripod or such), the lower frequencies actually get a little better for low bands and the SWR on 40 and 80M drop also.
    Great review, keep it up!

Thanks , I did do a lot of testing after I shot at the park with it 6' off the ground and it's great on the higher bands 14 up for distance. I made a 17m contact today to Maryland from Northern California with a report of s3-s5 so not bad. Thanks for watching and the comment!

Good video. I am building one of these. Was going to say you can get 1/2” aluminum tube 3ft long at home depot snd cut to length if needed. If you tap the ends of the tube for 1/8 npt female, you can put a 1/8” npt male/male brass nipple in one end, and a 1/8” npt male/female brass adapter in the other end and stack them. A 1/8” male npt will go in 3/8-24 threaded hole, and a male 3/8-24 will thread into a female 1/8” npt. That’s how I’m using my 9 1/2” whip with the full size version of this antenna. 73.

Thanks Chuck. Good review. I looked into a similar antenna from Alpha Antennas and after seeing several reviews, it seemed to be working exactly like you saw.

Thanks Don , I was just in back again on this antenna and talked to a guy in Maryland and a guy in South Dakota
on 17m, it really works well on the higher bands for distance.

I found the tdl to be neck and neck with my pac tenna 9:1. Pac tenna was a bit better on 80 while the tdl was a tad quieter on 20. Thanks for the video chuck.

Jay that's good to hear, I would think the Pac tenna would be a little better on 40 and 80. Yes the TDL is very quiet not sure I had seen that on other reviews.

Nice coverage Chuck! I have two 17' whips and the CHA Hybrid-Micro, stake and want to create a metal piece to hold the 2 whips at a 45 deg. angle. You just inspired me to put that higher up on my project list. 73 Sir - KF6IF

Great review - the antenna looks good. The price is a little steep, though. A portable quick-deploy NVIS is actually a pretty handy thing to have and I may have to think about this antenna a bit more.

Thank You for an honest review. Not the "Great Antenna, I made 40 contacts" type review from others. For $400.00, I'll pass on this one. Much easier to use a EFHW or Dipole at lower height for $40.00 or less for NVIS work. Any antenna that is this broadband will be a compromise antenna. Yes, it works, but at a $400. price point, it's just not worth the cost. If $$$$ is not an issue, this might be a fun antenna system to play with. I can do more with a Silver Bullet/Buddipole-Stick, Ham Stick antenna or a wire for far less money and have a much more efficient antenna. I look at these type antennas as a gimmick antenna. All portable antennas are compromise antennas. The question is, how much efficiency are you willing to give up ? I'll take the most efficient portable antenna I can use for my portable work. I can Carry and Set Up an antenna that will be a far better antenna, at a far lower cost than this one all day long. A resonate antenna wins the day.
