Lars, Good day from Goonellabah, NSW, Australia. I agree that Tesla's FSD proves Lidar is obsolete.✅✅✅ I am embarking on a significant six-month journey. I'll be circumnavigating Australia in two CYBERTRUCKs and a Tesla Semi, covering a substantial 22,000 kilometres. This journey is set to commence at the beginning of February 2025. Elon shall help me. I was the project manager and civil engineer. I worked as an engineer in Singapore from 1999 to 2005. We designed and constructed twelve-kilometre tunnels with two boring tunnel machines and five stations. I also managed 160 engineers and architects. Even more than that, it is possible to project such kinematic image series into the future, perhaps even as far as a second, maybe 2, and keep updating frame by frame. Like a human driver imagining what might happen next and preparing plans to cope with various possibilities (such as slowing down, falling back, being more watchful, etc.)

Tesla hasn't started trials yet. Think of it like a marathon. Uber was #2 when they had an accident that killed a pedestrian and withdrew from the race. Cruise then became #2. They started trials, had multiple accidents, and got disqualified. Race officials told them they were a menace and could not go on. After waiting for a year, unable to be let back in, their sponsor (GM) told them, no more money. So they folded. Tesla is this very strong runner who everybody thinks might win.Trouble is, they haven't even started the race yet. Tesla is in the shoe shop picking running shoes. 🤦 Come on Tesla. When are you going to start running? How can Tesla be leading if they haven't even started. Waymo is like the plodding tortoise. Slow, deliberate, careful to a fault. Tesla is the hare. Can Tesla catch Waymo? Maybe. Maybe not. Who knows. But not if they don't start. FSD has had 13 major revisions, each a breakthrough achieving great milestones, and yet the car still cannot be trusted to go out without a human nanny. Tesla has the speed to catch Waymo. But we don't know if they could last the distance, or crash out like Uber and Cruise. This is probably why they are prevaricating and keep promising "soon", year after year. Crashing out could kill FSD, and a great cash cow for Tesla.
@frederickfaller899 no Waymo is multimodal AI with neurosyn integration which is far more superior than tesla. Tesla is just way more scalable because of its simplicity and zero reliance on encoded knowledge
Shhh ... you're suppose to just buy the hype without actually putting it to the test. Why did you go and buy the actual car? All the fans here are just praising Tesla, WITHOUT spending their actual hard earned money. If they do, they are buying the shares and crypto and riding the bubble up. Careful you get off before the peak though, and don't be too greedy.
Come on, Trump will be the next president... So ORANGE MAN BAD, and ELON MAN BAD is something of the past. The professionals dare to buy TSLA, without the fear for ESG from mr. Fink, and pushing up the Tesla stock, what it deserves!
lol @ Lidar... it was cool that they helped create Google Maps and Google View, but can you imagine having to incorporate all of that giant clunky hardware into the frame of a car? Tesla comes along and not only creates a better ai and camera system but built the car too, lol. It is odd that google stuck with that game plan for so long. I mean that company is gigantic and with money to burn you figure they would have clued in a long time ago. I wonder who was the one hold out that kept that program alive for so long? Oh, to be a fly on the wall in these giant woke companies, with more money than commonsense.
100 times more data is 2 orders of magnitude more (base 10). Just saying. But yes, most of what you said in the video is on point. Tesla leads the autonomous driving industry, and no one else is close. Tesla is the leader in AI, but I keep getting pushback from people when I state it. I tell them I chose AI as my concentration when I was in grad school. I tell them about how to stripe data sets, the problems associated with overfitting, and they still call BS on me. Well, I guess I don't really care. I've already 3x'd my original investment in TSLA, and for whatever reason it keeps going up. I guess I don't know what I'm talking about still. /sarcasm
Stop saying things like _I chose AI as my concentration in grad school._ You're using the wrong word, which makes people doubt you actually went to grad school.
@@danielch6662 I see. Well that's what they called it at my school. I mean, I guess other people call it writing a thesis. But the degree was in computer science. There was no "AI" degree at my school. Classes I took included things like digital signal processing (computer vision), natural language processing, machine learning and data mining, honors theory of computing, etc.
V12 was not the first major milestone for FSD. A significant milestone was reached much earlier when Tesla was able to render the real time environment in 3D with just cameras. That was one of the first major achievements for Tesla's FSD. It set the stage for end to end neural network FSD (among other milestones).
The main difference between Tesla and Waymo: Tesla gets 100X the data with a profitable business model while Waymo's data gathering is costing them millions a day.
Sure, but steady. Congratulations Tesla, congratulation Elon, you did it. As a former commuter I certify FSD is a long dream come true. Someone say "CASH MONEY" and closer to saving 10,000's of American lives each year.
Video camera resolution keeps increasing as component costs continue to decrease. Tesla can plot simple points on a graph and plan ahead. Why can’t the legacy companies plot that same data and see their own doom as plain as day?
VW is stuck on diesel. Toyota committed to hydrogen and can't let it go. GM. I don't know what they are doing. Stellantis was busy trying to digest and consolidate all their mergers and acquisitions when the switch to EV happened ... and so their solution was to partner with an EV company and resell their cars. 😂 That might be the final solution to all the ICE giants that can't figure out how to make an EV people would buy.
This is just a Tesla or Musk ad. @5:44: 'We still see some people that don't believe that vision will ever work": That's not the issue, the issue is that if you include lidar/radar, it _will work better_!! @5:52: No that concept hasn't been proven a long long time ago. Because - amongst other things - a long long time ago there weren't extra systems like lidar/radar. @6:07: That system (only vision) has not been proven. Otherwise than that it has proven that many people are killed every year, because they can't see enough! @6:24: Yes of course Tesla gets driver experience from 7 million cars (and with Trump in the house, Musk probably gets his will that data sharing does not have to be shared in court cases, which is an uttterly bad thing). But that experience does not include radar or lidar, and (therefore) is doing us short! @6:31: 500000 Owners use FSD: yes, but: #1: there are many deathly accidents with it; #2: (rightfully so) it is _not_ allowed to let the car do FSD, you are obligated to correct the car if it makes mistakes (which it does all the time); and yes, FSD is a misleading name, it is not FSD. @6:40: "The company with the largest number of endpoints will win": #1: We already know that it is not (only) the amount of data that counts, but the _quality_ of that data! And yes, if lidar and radar data was included, it would be (much) better than solely visual data!. #2: It is even not a good idea that the company with the largest number of endpoints will win. Again: the quality is more imporatant than the quantity. @9:12: No, the problems will not (quickly) become a thing of the past. @9:42: 'Tesla has not coded anything': That is just outright plainly a lie. @10:42: Grok AI chat is only working when logged in into X. Which is a very bad thing. @23:42: "Be nice": that's about the only relevant thing in the video which I agree upon. "Hate me if you must.": That is not the case. But still, I totally disgree that 'vision only' is the way to go.
It means that the neural network handles everything without the need for procedurally coded rules. The input from the cameras goes in and out comes control signals for steering, acceleration, braking. It's basically what was once considered impossible to achieve back in the early days of neural networks in the 80s and 90s due to the data, hardware and processing constraints. Tesla is possibly the only company that's able to do this because of the huge amount of data required for training as well as the compute power.
Actually "end to end" in this context mean vertical integration as in car is driven with or w/o FSD generate data. Data goes to Tesla Server which is used to train FSD. And some edge case scenario will be compiled and sent to programmer to improve the FSD.

I guess it is written before Trumps victory.... You know: ELON MAN BAD!
All bs just for ad money
@@danielch6662 waymo is crap the car is remote control watch how they drive when a problem comes up
@frederickfaller899 no Waymo is multimodal AI with neurosyn integration which is far more superior than tesla. Tesla is just way more scalable because of its simplicity and zero reliance on encoded knowledge
Correction at timestamp 14:05. One hundred fold the data is TWO orders of magnitude larger, not ten orders of magnitude larger.
Awesome as always!
Tesla supply chain sucks. Can't get basic parts for collision repairs.
If Elon was right then why does my Model Y keep trying to cut off big rigs with inches to spare??
Shhh ... you're suppose to just buy the hype without actually putting it to the test. Why did you go and buy the actual car? All the fans here are just praising Tesla, WITHOUT spending their actual hard earned money. If they do, they are buying the shares and crypto and riding the bubble up. Careful you get off before the peak though, and don't be too greedy.
Nice Info!
Strong opening, Lars
Come on, Trump will be the next president... So ORANGE MAN BAD, and ELON MAN BAD is something of the past. The professionals dare to buy TSLA, without the fear for ESG from mr. Fink, and pushing up the Tesla stock, what it deserves!
Intensely great video! You deserve to have one million subscribers!
Good news, Lars. Thanks 👍.
lol @ Lidar... it was cool that they helped create Google Maps and Google View, but can you imagine having to incorporate all of that giant clunky hardware into the frame of a car? Tesla comes along and not only creates a better ai and camera system but built the car too, lol. It is odd that google stuck with that game plan for so long. I mean that company is gigantic and with money to burn you figure they would have clued in a long time ago. I wonder who was the one hold out that kept that program alive for so long? Oh, to be a fly on the wall in these giant woke companies, with more money than commonsense.
That gm car with lidar looks as well designed as an abrams tank with sensors piled on the roof
Prototypes are like that. Don't worry about it. It will be prettified before they go to volume production.
Tesla is not just a car company
This has never been a competition from the beginning, the minute Tesla decided to do vision only it was a one horse race.
Of course, we humans don't need lidar to drive a car too....
Love the Gerbil slap 😂
it was super thanks
It's not a coincidence that all the others are throwing in the towel when FAD version 13 got released!
LIBERATION!!!!
I remember I bet against Elon once and sold Tesla shares about 7 years ago...I was an idiot. Never again.
Where is Dan O'Dowd when you need him? He's gone very, very quiet!
That might be the final solution to all the ICE giants that can't figure out how to make an EV people would buy.
I'm a Tesla stockholder and TESLA OWNER. I'm no troll. I just dont know what "end to end" means in this context. Coukd some kind soul expand?
I'm not a tesla fan-boy, I only invest in the leading companies in their fileds. That is why I own a ton of Tesla stock.

Road safety is a major reason to support TSLA. Hugely important.
Good analysis. Good Video. Congratulations.
Great job once again. You should have 10x the subscribers, youtube is screwing you.
how ironic that FSD V13 is the breakout for Tesla autonomy. In the US, number 13 is considered a very unlucky number.
You have the best insights to what's going on in this business. Thank you.
100 times =2 orders of magnitude = 10^2, not ten orders of magnitude
Shocking news.....for those who have no vision (pun intended).😆
Elon may be crazy, but his Tesla vehicles are a sane choice! That will be on my next t-shirt!
You're not wrong
WSJ had an article, video, telling its viewers that FSD, BASED ON 2019 accidents is dead and should be trashed by the Federal NTSA, l attemptd to remember the exact agency. They say it kills and humans do not understand how to use it. I am 80 and use it on all of my trips to Palo Alto, California. In 6 years no small, medium or large mishaps have occurred while using Supervised FSD. I LOVE IT. WELL, it is a tool, so l like it. Excellent professional review of the topic.
" In 6 years no small, medium or large mishaps have occurred while using Supervised FSD": 'Supervised FSD' is a 100% contradiction! In 6 years, on average, you don't drive that much that a person would encounter an heavy deathly addicent.
@mpmpm l have a masters degree in Traffic Safety and l am well trained and experienced. After buying my M3, someone ran into my car but he paid for everything as my M3 was parked and l gave the video to my insurance company. I was in the parking lot walking towards my parked car. I was not driving it. On the road l see stupid stuff but l am proactive. I adjust for weather, speed, road conditions, etc. I do not speed. I do not drink and drive. I do not have a cell phone. I drive looking to maximize distance on a charge and as safely as humanly possible. Been driving 72 out of 80 years in California and have driven across Canada multiple of times, 18,000+ miles in Mexico,
And l have been across the United States several times with no accidents. 😊😀😊 YES, clean record for 72 years.
Thanked you for your kind words.
Ten orders of magnitude, Lars, is NOT "a hundredfold". It's ten BILLION fold.
Errr, appendices provide a critical service to your Immune system, its not redundant
Google ceo in video u site at 4:35 - not clear exactly but could be that Google ceo saying tesla is waymo leading competitor - so not saying tesla better than waymo. Too waymo has driverless vehicles already in several cities - tesla does not. So as clear from all videos bestintesla is very pro tesla for sure and not objective as never really saying anything bad about tesla.
Waymo taxis also have 2 more doors😁
You cover a lot of good information in the video….
Over, and over, and over, and over…. Redundancy ad nauseam…. 👎
