    I just picked up one of these with the Yashinon DS-M 50mm f/1.4 for $45 and I mainly did it for the lens but if the camera works I might as well shoot with it too.

    Ahh, my very first SLR, taking me through high school and later. Great, durable camera. Shot hundreds of rolls, mostly B&W, and loved it.

    Mirror lockup is to reduce camera shake when mounted on a tripod and using a cable release. There are two sync ports. The one on the side marked ’x’ is where you would plug a flash sync cord. The FP port with the plastic wrap lug is for syncing flash bulbs that take longer to light up.

    what kind of battery this ccamera needs?also the exposure is correct?I know it uses CdS cell and these tend to become inaccurate in time.

      You can use four LR 44 batteries taped together with masking tape leaving the - and + contacts showing. This will give you the 6v required to power the meter and shutter. OR... you can find a battery coded`A544 which is simply the same but enclosed in metal but which saves you the hassle of going the masking tape way. Don't worry too much about the CdS cell as the meter works fine on mine and on my Practica MTL50 which is virtually (apart from no mirror lock-up) an East German clone of the Yashica but not quite as well-made. Hope this helps.

    Question. My battery light check is coming on. The shutter is working correctly as I can see aperture changes. I ran a test roll through at correct exposure, and they developed very dense. Problem is the led inside the viewfinder is not lighting up. Any ideas?

    • @forwardcameras
      @forwardcameras  8 місяців тому

      What do you mean developed dense? The exposure was incorrect?

    • @thecurioussquirrelreviews
      @thecurioussquirrelreviews 8 місяців тому

      @@forwardcameras when I processed the negatives in my home, they were barely viewable ( dense) which doesn’t make sense since I know exposure values were spot on.
      Update: I opened up the top and bottom of camera. No corrosion, but this version doesn’t allow access to POD, so I’m thinking I need to remove face front to get to it to check? Perhaps it’s a voltage issue; will check that next since this is a resistance circuit camera. Thoughts?

      @@thecurioussquirrelreviews Just because you could see aperture changes, doesn't mean your shutter is opening and closing as fast as it should. Of course, check your chemical mix, and how about looking at the shutter curtain moving with the back open....I'll assume you had the right I.S.O. film for your chemistry. And exposures.

    • @thecurioussquirrelreviews
      @thecurioussquirrelreviews 2 місяці тому

      Yes, correct chemistry mix for iso. Possibly I didn’t fix long enough to clear the emulsions. I’ll be re testing soon & paying more attention to shutter curtain speeds.

    Also, how do I get the top completely off? Is there a screw under the black shutter speed selector or something? Thanks in afvance

    • @forwardcameras
      @forwardcameras  8 місяців тому

      More than likely yes you need a spanner wrench

    • @thecurioussquirrelreviews
      @thecurioussquirrelreviews 8 місяців тому

      @@forwardcamerasgot the top off. Yes, have Spanner wrench, however, the ASA speed black dial selector is not attached by one of those screw caps- it’s glued on and I used a small mechanics feeler wrench to shimmy it off to reveal the screw underneath it.

    I found my grandfather's old film camera's while cleaning out his things a few months and he had this model! I want to shoot with it but i can't figure out what kind of films can be used in it!! Do you know?

    • @sclogse1
      @sclogse1 2 місяці тому

      35mm film. Color or black and white. They come in differently levels of light sensitivity. From around 50 I.S.O, which used to be called ASA, to around 800 I.S.O. As the film sensitivity increases, your image will show more grain. Keep your I.S.O. numbers low, like around 100 to 200. (It's on the film box) Clean your battery contacts before putting in a battery. Without film, open the back and watch the mechanism work.
