I couldn't imagine Soumitra Babu would fit perfectly in this role..such a versatile actor
I watched this movie in the year of 1971(at the age of 14 yrs ) and today is the 3rd time, I am watching it. It is based on Bibhuti Bhushan's novel by the great Satyajit Ray. There is a relation between Babita's appearance as the heroine (Anangabou) and Bangladesh liberation war against Pakistan in 1971. During Bangladesh war, nearly one crore refugees from then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh took shelter in West Bengal, India. Bobita(here heroine) was also among one of them. Satyajit Ray chose her as the Anangabou character during that time. So it's a coincidence to have her as one of the main characters here for this classic movie. She has, no doubt, shown her class. This was the scenario during 2nd world war, historically known as The Bengal Famine.--- Sumit Mitra, Haldia, West Bengal.

Atal jawler ahwan, kach kata hire, Ajana sapath, punascha (old), akash kusum..these films are not like ur typical commercial movies..esp Last two directed by Mrinal Sen..could be slow for some..bt definitely they are good films

This film was made in the year of 1971 during the Bangladesh liberation war by the great Satyajit Ray on the scenerio of Bengal famine during 2nd world war. The heroin here is Bobita of Bangladesh who took shelter in Kolkata during Bangladesh war against Pakistan in 1971. Original story was written by Bibhuti Bhushan Bandyopadhyay named 'Asani Sanket'. It is is an internationally awarded film.

@@Cactus007rn Well why would one to go to movies to check out reality? it is already happening around you 24/365. Had it been a documentary on bengal famine that is ok for informative purpose. There was no hint in the movie as to show any root cause for the famine rather effect of the famine on already poor people.
