Great story, I bought my first pair of V Alphas a couple of months ago and I'm getting back into running after over a 20 year break and it's all because of these shoes.
My Alpha's are perfect at a 41 rather than my usual 42, as I wear them without sock. My water shoes are also 41, but my winter 5 fingers are 42's. These shoes have changed my life, my arches have risen back up and I'm a runner again.

I had plantar fasciitis for 10 years, tried all kinds of remedies, but nothing worked until I quit using the recommended arch supports and allowed my feet to move more naturally. Now I’m pain free, but I want to carefully try the Vibrams, walking around in them first, then going on short runs, gradually extending them. I could relate to you wanting to run in those new shoes, and it must have felt great to just run and keep on running in them.

Your approach is exactly right. Steady at first and gradually put in small runs to hone your technique. Listen to your body and don't over do it for the first few weeks.

I had a similar experience, and finally had to stop running in about '96 after injuring my left knee badly during a training run (heel striking in traditional running shoes). Made numerous attempts to return to running and all resulted in either immediate left knee pain, or actual re-injury. Discovered Vibram FiveFingers in July 2012, and same as you, simply couldn't stop running. I'm 56 now, still running (mostly trails and adventure runs in the mountains), and am very thankful to still be enjoying the sport. In Aug 2019 my daughter and I completed our 5th annual rim-to-rim run at the Grand Canyon, and I went back in Oct 2019 and ran it again, solo. I don't think I've heard of one bad review on the Vibrams 5 Finger style shoes. I think they look absolutely weird, but nobody who has actually used them has had a bad review with them yet. I ordered them 2 days ago online, and they should be coming in 7 days now. I regret making such a big purchase on such a stupid-looking thing, but if they're as good as everyone says they are, then I'm hoping it's money well spent.

They are incredible to wear and remember, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
