Thank you so much! I can’t tell you how much I have looked for a dragon fly mold Michaels,Amazon etc I even tried making my own from a plastic dragonfly but it didn’t work I will try itsy now Your tutorial was wonderful Many thanks ♥️ Patricia
Hi guys! I love watching you! It looks so fun and comfortable...😌 What size foil is your most go to size? I also love the idea of thicker glass incorporated into the design/butterfly! 🦋🌻🌈
In the studio on regular stained glass panels, we most often use 1/4" foil and then when doing more detailed work we' sometimes switch to 7/32" foil. We have many sizes on hand but those are our most common. 😎😀😎
I found a mold for bug bodies that works great. It is online from Cake Connections -it's a silicone mold for gelatin bugs, I have made about 6 so far and it holds up very well . 11.99
Loved your video so I gave it a try. I'm having a little trouble getting the original casting out of the mold. Did you coat it in oil or anything to remove it easier? Or how long did you leave the casting in the Plaster of Paris before you tried to remove it? I think I may need a video of you making the molds.
You might try soldering a piece of wire to the back of the insect body. Once it cools you should be able to pull it free. My molds have been used often, so there is usually some flux and debris at the bottom of them so nothing can stick to them. I'd love to hear how this works for you.
CAN YOU SHOW HOW YOU MADE THE PLASTER OF PARIS MOLD. HOW LONG DID YOU LEAVE THE BODY IN MOLD, OR HOW LONG DID PLASTER HAVE TO SET UP BEFORE PUTTING BODIES IN MOLD
I didn't film the process. The packaging the plaster of paris came in had instructions and I just followed them. I did let the molds cure for a week or more before making bodies of solder. Good Luck!
Thank you for all of your wonderful videos! Im going to get some plaster of paris and make a mold my question is after i make my molds do i have to prepare my molds with anything to make the solder bodies come out easy ?
www.franklinartglass.com/product/simple-butterfly-body-lead-free-casting/ is a place you can find them aqnd if you do a google search for lead free butterfly bodies like I mentioned in the video, you may be able to find some.
I did look up lead free dragonfly mold but they only showed an already made body but not the mold I did see a silicone mold Do you know if solder can be poured into silicone? Thank you for helping Patricia
I have a question, I hope you see my question because your video is 2 yrs. old. If we made our own bodies, we could add wire in the bodies. The wire would be horizontal to the body. We could tie into the wings with the wire for stability and strength. What do you think?
Yes. I did a sculpture with a butterfly escaping from a hand and made the soldered body around an exiting piece of steel that was bent enough that the body couldn't move or pull off. It worked great!
@Gomm Stained Glass Can you tell me the clay I should use to make the body mold. I read that if the clay has moisture in it, it will explode when you fill it with the solder. Thank you for your help. Sorry to be such a pain. Big fan from Washington State 😃🌲🌲🌲🦀

@Kalel Kamden We'd love to see a photo of your completed project! david.gsglass@gmail.com
When I saw the molds, I thought you were going to make a fused glass body. The solder body is a new idea for me. Thanks.
I once made a solder body around a sculpture wire which worked great.
I love the idea of the insect body molded out of solder.
We have one that is a shortened body for a bee hanging from our cars rearview mirror, it's pretty fun
@@GommStainedGlass very cute.

Great idea making the body out of solder. How do you clean your pieces after your done soldering and do you wax them after?
Just standard window cleaner seems to work well, wax might make them prettier.
Great music! ❤Is there a reason for working on the paper?
I felt you could see the detail better on the video with paper behind!

Great demo! I have to try these. Really cute! Thank you for download as well!
@@traceywasen8916 We think you'll find them fun to do and very versatile, you can do all sorts of things with them!
What was the golden long thing u used for the outline there ? U guys created a very goood models whao
I think you're referring to the copper wire we were using but I'm not sure what you mean by an outline.
Oh yep that's cooper I meant I'm sorry ... Ah the outline I meant about the melted cooper line
I've never seen a butterfly body, I love it! Do you clean the glass off before you foil? New subscriber from Washington State.
Yes we clean off the glass before foiling. This is mostly because we grind the glass and need to remove the powdered glass from the pieces.

Cool, they really work!
what cleaner do you use when cleaning panels after sodering
We use CJ's Flux cleaner and kwik clean spray. Some times we use water and cleanser.
I ❤❤❤it wherec i find buy all materials 🙏
Good luck!
Excelente tu forma de trabajar, me podrías decir donde consigo el molde de hacer el cuerpo de la mariposa, me envías la información, mil gracias.

I couldn't find a mold either so those instructions are for how you can make your own mold and then be able to make many more insect body copies!
yes I have a silicone mold from Cake connections (11.99) that has held up very well
@@denisesears4952 Thanks for sharing
How do you clean it when its so fragile? I struggle to be gentle and get all the flux off
It depends on the size. If it's small, you can wash it in the sink using dawn dish washing liquid. If it's larger it probably isn't so delicate.

This is fabulous thank you xx
Can we make a silicone mould??
You might, but will it stand up to 500 degrees of heat from the melted solder?
Camera shows more of table than butterfly. Video very instructive but angle not helpful,
Thanks for watching it any how!
