As someone who has never played AC Syndicate. The update did it's job for me to finally give it a go. But just like everyone else.... Still waiting for that Black flag remake!
with AC syndicate I was so excited because the setting was my dream setting back then! The advertising made clear Jacob was the main character, and evie was really an extra character. I got the game, and don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but evie was indeed an extra in Jacob's game, the problem was that evie was also extremely cringe, 2 dimensional, and her chatacter simply didn't suit the experience that had been build. I never wanted to play as her, and when I had to it was frustrating. The season pass dlc sotrylines were both painfully bias to evie on the grounds that Jacob was the base game main protagonist, yet evie was still playable in Jacob's game, meanwhile Jacob was outright removed from evie's dlc. Thus didn't feel like an effort to make them equal, more it felt like an effort to replace Jacob with his boring sister. The journalists began painfully slandering and attacking Jacob's character at this time, to a point where even Jacob's actor spoke out and stated that he felt journalists and reviewers couldn't have possibly played the game due to how inaccurate their takes on Jacob were, and eventually simply saying you liked Jacob more than evie was enough for "fans" to attack you as well. In this time, evie suddenly began being referred to as "the protagonist" even tho the game as a product is clearly about Jacob, not Jacob and evie, just Jacob. Evie had a equal amount of storyline in syndicate to that of what Haytham or Aya had in AC3 or Origins. So how she became a "protagonist" is beyond me. All of the toxicity and double standards against Jacob were also against me as a fan who wanted to play that game that was advertised. Jacob running a gang called the rooks, while he assassinates templars in victorian london. But all of a sudden I was being fed this lie that the game is really about evie chasing the shroud and going on dares with Henry. Safe to say if that had been advertised, I may have never paid for the game at all! Both the reality of syndicate as a game and Jacob a as character have since been lost to obscurity, even people who played syndicate fall for some of the lies told to promote evie, and devlaue Jacob. That's how aggressive the campaign ti essentially dethrone Jacob as the protagonist, has been. When I played odyssey, I noted that the devs managed to squeeze Aya into the game alongside Bayek, but instead of Jacob and evie, we had evie and the blighters. It was then I realised the double standards. It was never about making the frye twins equal. It was about trying to replace Jacob with evie. And ever since the game has had a massively unhealthy fan base who are always attacked by the extremely toxic fan base for evie. Because fundamentally Jacob is still the main character, so Jacob's fans are upset due to how badly treated their favourite character is. And evie fans (tho there are far fewer of them) are angry because they want everything just for their character and they have been told by journalists that they deserve to give the boot to Jacob's fans. This is why I knew instantly I wouldn't buy shadows. I am not going through that with any game again. It was and continues to be so toxic!
Syndicate had some of the most realistic combat animations, in my opinion. Yes, the over-the-top stabs and “bouncy” hit reactions looked weird, but the attack animations, especially the counters, were extremely fluid and realistic to watch.
They're well done but I think they were mocapped and then sped up which makes them look pretty junky, just giving enemies less health would have been preferable.
If all that excess stabbing and punching makes the combat great according to u then that's ur opinion bud.. As many others think differently about the combat.. Do not force ur opinion on others
I absolutely love Syndicate. It has been my most played game for what's nearly a decade now! But I get tired of slander and misinformation against Jacob from other parts of the community and from game journalism. The fact is, Jacob is the primary main character of the entire game. Jacob is the character the experience is built around. Gang wars, train robberies, fight clubs, street races and blunty hunts, these are all things built for the character Jacob, as things he would engage with. The entire assassin turned gang leader fantasy only works for Jacob. He's the one with all the narrative heavy levels and he's the one we play as for two thirds of the story, Jacob has a far better character arc than his sister, which Jacob struggling between being a ruthless gang leader and an honourable assassin, and Jacob's journey from reckless young man, to more thoughtful and accountable master assassin, is a great journey to experience. But evie is not just dull as dishwater, and 2 dimensional, she simply doesn't suit the game outside of the few levels your forced to play as her. Think about this, every in game tutorial features a picture of Jacob if it features the player character at all. The same can be said for london stories, last maharaja, and dreadful crimes memories. Jacob is clearly the intended character in these levels. It is also stated in game that the rooks are Jacob's gang, not evie's, and evie actually has a go at Jacob because she feels Jacob shouldn't be building a gang or going after templars but only focusing on the shroud. In addition, Jacob is angry that she "didn't help him" with the gang and associates, implying Jacob is the canonical character in the free roam activities, and side missions as well. Moreover, Roth only invites Jacob to dinner, because Roth says Jacob specifically was seen taking down the gang leaders, and Jacob asks if his actions made Roth angry. Evie wasn't invited because she wasn't seen taking down any gang leaders. This effectively confirms Jacob is the canon character for the open world activities as well. Finally the last maharaja and dreadful crimes. Last maharaja trailer and all of it's level pictures feature Jacob, not evie. Jacob is the character on the main artwork for the dlc as well, and the levels are often more dramatic and include huge fights with allies and gangs. The dlc is clearly written for the player to be Jacob. The dreadful crimes is much the same. Jacob is the in universe inspiration for Sherlock, and Abberline for Watson. Jacob even gets a Sherlock styled outfit for this dlc, while evie gets nothing. The player in the dreadful crimes has to slowly work out the plot and betrayal of Henry Raymond. This is in keeping with how Jacob is written all the time. Jacob had to uncover the identities and plots of each templar in the main story, and Jacob was easy to trust pearl and roth, until he learned the truth each time. This is much the same with Raymond. When the player confronts Raymond, the character your playing as aims a revolver at Raymond and tackles the situation head on. Meanwhile the twins you didn't chose to play as, sneaks up on Raymond. It is clearly written for Jacob to be the main player character in these levels as well. Essentially evie is a false protagonist. She isn't intended for anything apart from the content that forces you to play as her, and indeed she's not actually canon in the levels where you can choose who to play as. We know this from a variety of in game conversations and details. I love this game, I really like Jacob's character, but evie is the source of slander against the game, and a lot of misinformation that is designed to promote evie and undervalue Jacob. This has lead to syndicate hardcore fans such as myself to feel disenfranchised from the rest of the AC community, and I have grown from just not liking evie, to out right wishing she wasn't part of the game at all. I hope you took the time to read my thoughts, I just wanted to air my views as I'm a very passionate fan of this game, and honestly I'm fed up with how syndicate fans, Jacob and the game itself are slandered for the 2 dimensional sidekick that is evie.
Nah, Syndicate is way better. More fun story, better characters, more consistent stealth, better side activities in the city. It's just more polished and fun to play in general.

The setting is amazing, the huge crowds are cool, and the parkour system has some of the best animations in the series. But the game itself is extremely clunky and unfinished. The story is half-baked and forgettable. The characters are dull and uninteresting. The combat is mid. The stealth is clunky and hindered by dumb AI. Even the parkour system is annoying, because despite fluid animations, it's terribly imprecise and unreliable. Unity is the kind of game that can look amazing in perfectly choreographed StealthGamerBR videos, but falls apart when you look at it as a whole. It's just not a very good video game. Syndicate does almost everything better.

Asassin's Creed Unity has way better combat mechanics and stealth.
I tried the game but i found the acting a bit too much oiveracting an cringe talking, also the game was trying to be too funny.
