- Here we go again, but this time, with no B plot?? Heath is trying to make it on to A Troupe, Jett has to miss rehearsal, and the dancers are trying to get the Nationals duet and avoid being made the alternate.

Nick originally said 1 alternate ( 11 dancers ) Kenzie wanted to join as dance captain, as she’s been on a troupe for a while now it made sense for Nick to have her on the team, so he did
This meant there are now 12 dancers
Therefore: 2 alternates
I thought everyone knew this(? Why was people confused?

@@clarefala4102 What? Kenzie joined after the challenge, during it she was still in Step Inside and didn't realise yet she didn't want that but nationals. You're probably confusing the timing or thinking way back in season 7 when they did the auditions for the alternates only where Kenzie was also trying to be dance captain.

Whew…let’s talk about this alternate bit, because I was thinking to myself how over the years TNS has treated the hip-hop dancers as lesser then and I don’t know why? They never used to. West and James were hip-hop dancers and they were pivotal characters that were never even up for debate as alternates. TNS used to utilize their strengths as hip-hip dancers and they would even lead some sections in the group numbers and were usually always in the small groups as well.
I feel like after the first class of TNS graduated, they demoted hip-hop dancers to be seen as lesser than. Maybe it’s because the newer crop of hip-hop dancers aren’t as versatile with acro or tricks, but if that’s the case, why not cast hip-hop dancers that CAN do that instead of implying that hip-hop automatically equates to weak? Like you said, it’s like saying to the members that they were barely good enough to make it into the team and to show that, you WILL be auditioning for the alternate spot. And you made a great point; If you’re going to make anyone an alternate they should be versatile!
What’s stranger about this new depiction of hip-hop dancers is that they have more hip-hop dancers than ever on A-troupe yet they seem ti be classified as the weaker dancers. You’d think they would add in more hip-hop since their dancers focus a lot on that style now over anything else. Weird choices.
I don’t think Daisy’s attitude towards Heath is unwarranted but at the same time I think she’s a bit too harsh considering she doesn’t know him or what his plight was on that team. If his old team forgave him, then she should keep that in mind while also having her guard up until she feels she can trust him. But Heath has nothing to prove to anyone new on that team. I do agree that it was obvious they were going to win.
Good point about Jett and Kenzie! We know TNS can have a hospital set if they need based on season 4. I think they could have brought that back for Jett where they have her go to the hospital to get her brother and they have a talk about how she feels she’s being pulled away from dance. Idk, just something more to make the audience care. It did seem kind of empty. Because I just kept thinking, why is her mom pulling her out of dance class to babysit as if these lessons are cheap? Like she works hard to enroll her in dance, so to pull her out of class to babysit seemed kinda idk to me. Nonsensical lol. Surely there had to be a better solution to that, like maybe just bringing Jett’s brother to the studio to hang out with the younger kids or something. It’s only for a few hours?
Information about the hospital scrubs thing: My mum is a nurse, and you are not allowed to wear scrubs outside of the hospital, but I understand the show not tell. I also love your channel so much Alishea!
Is it illegal to wear scrubs in public in the UK? It’s not in Canada or the US.
It is not completely illegal but you are not meant to. I mean it would be pretty dumb if you got arrested for wearing your uniform in public.
The dancing on this shown has regressed so much, I don’t know if a choreography issue or a talent issue but I haven’t been blown away by a single dance since the regionals finals

Jett's storyline is inspired by the actress (Mila Tupy) actual lifestyle. I think that's her actual mother and brother in the episode. Also she really looks similar to Jacquie.
Her brother was actually played by one of the showrunners kids

In the Pocket essentially means “We’ve got this in the bag” (when two people are perfectly in sync). Basically means “on point”. Although I admit, I’ve never actually heard anyone say this in real life but I have heard it occasionally on some shows lol. Out of all the new characters, Daisy and Ebby stand out the most to me I think because they were one of the few new people who were prominent in the first half of the season or at least they were more talkative. But now we’re finally getting to see more of other characters like Xander, Jett and Anthony. Xander bringing Jett’s mother and brother in to watch them dance was basically an apology to Jett and his way of making it up to her by getting her family to watch her dance in the studio. I did like Daisy and Heath’s scenes. They definitely had the best duet. The Martial Arts element of the dance definitely makes it more creative.
As for Kenzie and the 2 alternates thing (which Ethan stated), all I will say is that it will start to make more sense as you progress through the season. I won’t spoil it. Although I still think they should have brought Miss Angela back or another adult as temporary head to reduce the weight of work off Kenzie as she already has big responsibilities as Dance Captain, a dancer on A Troupe and focusing on Nationals in general. I’m mainly opting for Miss Angela so they can explain her absence in Season 7 as the last time we saw her was with the Dancemania podcast series but given that the whole Dancemania thing is over, I guess there’s no reason for her to return but given that Nick is absent, this would have been the perfect opportunity to bring her back to help Nick by being the temporary head. But oh well lol.
Jett and Xander's duet was crazy entertaining and is probably my favourite dance of the season so far. Pissed that it didn't make it to nationals
i feel like for alternates they should hold auditions for the ten dancers that compete for nationals (or whatever other competition) and then after that they hold auditions for 2 alternates seperately. similar to season 7. i feel like this would be fair bc if u didnt make the team u would still have another chance to potentially compete, rather than making the team and THEN getting the alternate spot bc thats like promoting u then straight away demoting u
with the duet for this season i think its cool that its not a traditional romantic duet. in the past all of the absolute dance duets were jiley or nochelle and they were always a story abt love and either contemporary or ballet. its cool to see other styles and something different
one thing ive noticed abt season 8 and maybe even season 7 is that each episode doesnt have that much going on in them. as you mentioned there was no b plot in this one and there were heaps of characters missing. ever since season 7 there have been episodes where characters just dont show up, and i get that the actor probably wasnt available but in the earlier seasons characters were only absent for a few episodes a season and it was never usually in a row. i do rlly miss the earlier seasons, bc i feel like if you were to watch only one random episode it would be entertaining and there would be enough stuff in it to get a full experience, but now each episode is kind of dry and youd have to watch more than one to see all of the characters.
Yeah so some of them put themselves forward wanting to do it? I think that'd be good, and if noone puts themselves forward they all have to do a set combo and then the DC picks the weakest, most versatile person, so they only do it if someone else can't. That's what I'd do anyway
There are 12 people on A troupe. Dylan, Ethan, Daisy, Heath, Jude, Izzy, Kenzie, Anthony, Pete, Jet, Ebby and Xander.
So therefore there is two alternates. Nick did say one but after kenzie joined there were 12 people on the team.
Noone has verbally said this though, and if that's the case, why not just make kenzie the alternate if she joined and causes there to be one too many?🤔
@@mockingariana3It's unclear if Kenzie is a part of the team or just leading it as Riley did in season 4. But if she is officially part of the team then I agree she should be an alternate. There would still next to be another alternate tho.
@@mockingariana3 I feel like in some episode of the whole series someone said that the Dance Captain must be dancing on stage so it means they can't be the alternate. Or maybe I just made this up in my head. I don't know, I feel confused 😂

the point of Jett’s mom to the studio was that Xander put in the effort to have Jett’s mom at the studio and show her the duet because Xander wanted to make it up to Jett.
In the pocket in dance is to be "in the pocket of the music" or following the groove and beats perfectly in sync with the song
because kenzie joins the team as dance captain it means 2 people are made alternates instead of 1. but idk why nick only wanted 1 alternate in the first place when they had space for another dancer
Probably bc Emily was studio head at the time and hated the idea of alternates so her and Nick compromised to have 1 instead of 2
@@arianelily5463 Again S8 seems to be littered with plot holes and I just don't think it works. Theres also likely a 1 and a half to 2 year gap between Emily being at the studio so I really don't think it influenced Nick's thinking when it's only benefitting the studio to have an additional dancer.
Also I'm not sure if alternates were selected but did B-Troupe have alternates in S7 when running for nationals and if so were there 2? and I've forgotten if Dancemania had alternates but again the question still applies

tbh heath carried the whole season also its rlly fun to go back and watch ppl react to stuff youve already seen and they havent and ALSO it makes me laugh to go back and see ppls predictions when theyre completely off and sometimes they are scarely accurate 😭😭
I'm just happy that with the whole Ethan replacing Jett storyline that is a recycled plot, they changed it up and let Jett go back.
Personally I feel like TNS doesn’t appreciate hip- hop dancers as much as they did in earlier seasons?
They definitely don't hype them up like they used to, but then again I don't think they hype up the contemporary dancers either. The overall hype has diminished from dances. There's less 'wow' in my opinion
Heath needs to "get approval" because Daisy openly distrusts him and Kenzie got them to do a duet together to get them to build trust, but also to use it as his trial period, so he has to do this duet well so he can actually stay on the team.

I love that Jett is the first female breakdancer on A-troupe. All the other female hip hop dancers were more sassy dancers

"in the pocket" is actually a Spanish expression. It means "we got this" like, to cheer people up 🎉
My interpretation is: when nick was telling everyone there would be 10 dancers and 1 alternate, Cleo was yet to give up her guaranteed spot. So either, when Cleo gave her spot up he either just kept the same number for simplicity or chose 12 dancers.

Oh damn okay, well... this changes everything! (Sorry). I'm hoping we see Kenzie actually rehearse then cause so far she's only done a little thing with Pete but that's not a nationals dance cause (spoilers for ep 17) she's asked Jude to work on the 10 person one... v confusing. Still feel the same though that she should've had to audition or at least be the alternate by default if she's joining late

I really hope there's a season 9 and I hope it's better the only real plot was everyone leaving and the mole really it's getting pretty meh but you never know could pick up in a few episodes
The alternates should be done the same for the other seasons because it'd all be in the dance captain diary which kenzie now supposedly has
Izzys additude is on point I love all these characters attitudes although I wish we see more of characters we've barely seen Jude and cleo even though they were in step in side we haven't really seen them since they mended things and everyone left
It also sucks because I would've loved to see Amy and piper moving and Finn leaving and a big send off we didn't see anyone leaving or arriving at there new destination it's like the national team has taken over and we just forgot about the old a troupe I don't know anyways I hope this season improves 🫶🏽
ngl i feel nothing towards the new characters. except izzy and daisy. like we haven’t had the chance to get to know them when they were alongside the step inside dancers so now that they’re the main troupe, i just don’t feel invested in their storylines

Is it a dance thing to have set alternates? Like why can’t they have 2 people off the first 10 person dance and a different 2 people off the second 10 person dance?
Or say “these people are doing the duet/solos, so they’re the alternates for the big routines to focus practising”
That's bc the two alternates are the weakest dancers, you obviously wouldn't put those two in an official routine when there's other two dancers that are better than them. Also, if you don't have any alternate selected then if someone from the official routine gets hurt there's no one else to replace them since the alternates in the place of practicing a specific part of the routine, they learn everyone's parts, so if someone, anyone, gets hurt, they already know what to do. For example, in tns first tour Sam (Stephanie) and Myles (Noah) went as alternates only, and they said this is a really difficult job bc they have to learn everyone's movements from every routine so if something happens they can perfectly replace them without any change in the choreo. So if you just select people for different routines to do their parts and put no one as alternate, if someone gets injured at the last moment then there's no one to replace them since no one was previously described for that or learn their part, and you obviously don't know who can get injured so you have to know what everyone does, not someone on particular or the general choreo since they all do different stuff in some parts even in the group routines.

I just feel like these plots aren’t making me interested they have so much potential like with Jett it would of be really cool if she said she was struggling financially like Chloe.
Totes, or not even struggling financially, just struggling to manage her time when she has to watch her brother too. So is made the alternate because she can't commit to everything or something? Just something a bit deeper and over more than one episode for her
She doesn't really need a storyline of financial problems, that's just not what her plot is. Her mom works a lot and she has a little brother she needs to take care of sometimes, that's normal and doesn't really mean you're having problems with money, since not having a babysitter doesn't mean it's for money or if it is it still doesn't mean you don't have enough in your general life. We already had Chloe and Heather with that storyline, it's better to have something that's a little different with Jett.
