One case shows how robust it was: The first Brewster flown to Finland from Sweden got lost and made a forced belly landing in the snow. Only the window in the floor was broken and cockpit was filled the snow.
The buffalo gets really bad press which is undeserved when you consider her combat record, often against overwhelming odds. The P39 is also another victim. Considered unfit for the European combat theatre, the Soviet forces shot down many 109s and 190s and many of their pilots preferred them to indigenous designs. It's not the tool, but the hand that wields it, that gets the job done
@@Rafa-mp6xe the lacab cb.9 was a never built project of a monoplane twin engine medium bomber the GR.8 doryphore was also a medium bomber but it was built and it participated the war :D
Not bad. I can't really fault this piece of work. The interesting part part for me, however, is how important these aircraft were when taken over by the RAF and the FAA.
A number of aircraft did find refuge in the UK, but these were mostly civilian aircraft. Some AeM aircraft did escape to Britain, mostly Stampe SV4 trainers.
I've always been intrigued by the Caproni 355. Making a two seater with 870hp that can fly at 500 km/h seems impressive. Still not fast enough to go toe-to-toe with the Me109, but maybe the Caproni would at least have managed to hold its own. The whole Belgian concept of fighter/rec/light bomber all-in-one concept is fascinating in it's own.
1 I hate when people refer to the F2A as bad when it was outdated. Would we say that the A6M was bad if it had to face the F8F Bearcat? 2 what happened to the Belgian armed forces that escaped Europe? We’re there enough to reconstitute in England we’re they folded into the British military in battalion and squadron sized groups like as happened with the Poles or were they folded into free French units ?
minstens twee squadrons van de RAF waren Belgisch: 349 en 350, opgericht in 1942. . Beide squadrons bestaan nog steeds en vliegen met f16 349 (symbool goedendag) was het eerste operationele f16 squadron in Europa
It is a sad story with PZL Łoś, there were so many interested in purchasing. Maybe some would survive the war if there were more users. Great video, definitely not well known subject.
i have always been very interested regarding belgian weapons and equipment during ww2 well... the early stages atleast. and learning more from these videos only makes that curiosity that much more larger. and with the info you provide i honestly wish to see whats posted in the future. have a sub as a token of appreciation
Oops! How could i have missed that?! Thanks for noticing. I had some rendering problems with this one, so i might have to look for new video editing software.
Do you think Narrator, that the Belgian Brewster Buffaloes were requisitioned by the RAF because, either or both: their Sth East Asian Squadrons were usually supplied with sub standard military units; or due to the fact that the then desperate British Empire were trying to draw the USA into WWII, by utilising their military hardware?
im not gonna deny that. nor agree. tho people does constantly praise the 109 it really isnt that amazing. tho the 109E would have an advantage it would still rely on its pilots to keep their speed up. and pray their opponents are dumber. which was roughly 50/50 chance.
you mean the S.47? as i mentioned in a seperate video on the S.47 on my channel, the AeM did not yet order the aircraft. the order had to be delayed because SABCA's productionline was overbooked at the time.
In Finland, Brewster Buffalo kill rate was 34:1. Robust and easy to maintain in forest air fields.
One advantage Finland had was that the overheating problem was mitigated deu to the cold arctic air of northern Scandinavia.

Very interesting. I have always wondered if any Belgian Aircraft escaped to Britain.

Read it too fast... thought it said "flying pest." ;)

Love to see a video on Belgium aircraft in the colonial overseas territories 1930/40s .

Very good to recapture the history of our airforce , it is quite surprising the amount of types we flew.

Sometimes the YT algorithm suggests some real jems. Interesting video. Well done. 🇦🇺👍
Picture of P 400 (8 mins) looks a bit iffy. No protruding 20 mm cannon barrel from the spinner.
More detail...Russian assisted.

Early test aircraft. No cannon fitted probably. DuPont "British" color equivalents, as per Hawk 81 for AVG.

For that matter, a US flag with 48 stars would be historically accurate. Alaska [49] and Hawaii [50] were not granted Statehood until the 1950s.
