Love it alot...the voice..the class too.. its sensational stuff my people
That bassoon is heavenly!
Smokey you are the GOAT!!!!!!!!!!!
THIS RECORDING WAS DONE IN 1967 SAT IN THE UNRELEASED CAN UNTIL A MOTOWN TAMLA EMPLOYEE IN LONDON HEARD IT AND CONTACTED BERRY GORDY IN DETROIT AND HAD IT RELEASED IN 1970!! 3 YEARS AFTER IT WAS RECORDED AND BECAME A TOP 5 SMASH HIT IN THE UK AND USA!!
And the flute coming in @ 3:44 gives it even more of a lift! Genius.
Very cool indeed 🥰
Listen..... The drums are banging!!! The great pretender!
Another nice spin on a Smokey Robinson classic!
The relentless tambourine gets me every time! mosogotam you've succeeded where everyone else have failed to make Motown punch you in the stomach even more! There are times when I increase that incredible feeling by slowing the playback speed down.....
YES! Great job on this! Fantastic too is that I can hear both sets of drums going at it on this track! Just when you think the Funk Brothers are at the top of their game, it just keeps getting more incredible! Thanks for posting this!
The drummer is really going steady steady forward on that high hat. Not a breath in between.
Simple and steady. His hook is infectious. Pah-did-did-Tat! The background vocals are showcased and it just shows how GREAT this is!!
I had a teacher in secondary school, music master who reckoned that all the motown backing was speeded up, is this true?
incredibly tasty drumfills !
@@davidgriffiths1391 could be.
Raise speed of 1 or 2% enhances the performance tightness and the groove, improving bass sound.
But if you increase the tape speed, you also change the key, and this song is on a perfect C sharp.
the only wat to obtain it is to accelerate the speed of 6%, a perfect semitone, but that alters the sound of instrument.
I agree. I am a drummer myself. When you are play drums in the recording studio less is more. Play steady beats and easy tom tom fill- in and the recording engineers will love you.
I agree. I am a drummer myself. Less is more. When recording in the studio play the beat strong and steady and play tom tom fill-ins strong and simple. The recording engineers will love you.
The low reed you hear is a bassoon. I agree, this is excellent!
Bassoon is good. The bass clarinet and baritone saxophone are the best.
Yes. I agree also. You only hear these instruments with orchestras.
Super funky breath of the era. Love it's characteristic studio sound. Nice change to be able to focus on the instrumental part!!!
The original made me cry! tyhis version makes me cry even more!
Never heard this track without the lead vox before - absolutely amazing stuff. Always wondered what the notation was for the low end of the clavinet - can hear it crystal clear now - nice & simple, but absolute genius.
What a fantastic arrangement - equally amazing playing from the funk bros. Love the oboe and the bari sax.
One of my new favorite mixes of this song...job well done man!
Genius
the original track is hard to find, Motown put the new mix 1967 album "Make It Happen".after Tears of a Clown became a hit.
The harpsichord intro reminds me of the Addam's Family.
I picture Lurch sitting in on this gig.
Thank you so much, John!
beautifully awesome...play it loud
I'd never noticed that rolling guitar before. see about 4:30. It's fabulous
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That's OK. Claudette (and Marv Tarplin) WERE inducted with the rest of the Miracles into the ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME in 2012.
WOW,totally brill Mosogotam.
SUPER......SUPER.....AWESOME!..........TUNE.
mosogotam, i love that you do these! (*double grin smile) thank you
Thank you, hitomusic!!!
Nope...Claudette was rarely put on the record jackets. I posted her in all the photos that I could find of her.
Genius!
I love that harpsichord line starting at 1:03
David is not correct. The track was an album "filler" track released on the Miracles 1967 album "Make It Happen". Then, after gaining significant popularity in the UK...it was released as a 45 after getting a potent overdub on the rhythm track.
I always wondered why the company needed so long to release the song as a single. I was mad about the "Tears..." from the start and considered myself a freak.
mosogotam John you are spot on, I used to DJ then and we/ everyone always played the album version until the 45 came out, great job again by the way.
+idaslpdhr Well ,idaslpdhr...thank you again...and again!!!
Brilliant as usual. Thanks
bob babbitt killed it on bass.
How do you know its not James Jamerson?
Roderick Jones Babbitt said he played on it
Bob Babbitt for sure.
@mosogotam I feel like such a dolt. If I'd read the very title of this clip I would have noticed that, um, you extended the front end. Too funny! Hey, I couldn't tell. Good job!
I almost love this more than the vocal version. When it starts it doesn't seem like it's the same song. Funny to think there's a minute lead into the song we all know. (If you like this clip, be sure to Like it as there are two clowns who've managed to Dislike it. Weird.)
Do you think their dislike has something to do with their tears?
...and that's why I do these (*grin)!
You will be missed sir......
Very good Artwork. Hope no one ever fell this to be an infringement. Thanks ....
@imthebrother ....thanks so much!!!!
@34airflow ...much appreciated!!!
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah
Now if there's a smile on my face
It's only there trying to fool the public
But when it comes down to fooling you
Now honey that's quite a different subject
But don't let my glad expression
Give you the wrong impression
Really I'm sad, oh, I'm sadder than sad
You're gone and I'm hurting so bad
Like a clown I appear to be glad (sad, sad, sad, sad)
Now, there's some sad things known to man
But ain't too much sadder than
The tears of a clown when there's no one around, mm
Oh, yeah, baby
Now if I appear to be carefree
It's only to camouflage my sadness
In order to shield my pride, I try
To cover this hurt with a show of gladness
But don't let my show convince you
That I've been happy since you
Decided to go (why did you go?)
Oh, I need you so (I need you so)
I'm hurt and I want you to know (want you to know)
But for others, I put on a show, ooh, oh (it's just a show)
There's some sad things known to man
But ain't too much sadder than
The tears of a clown, when there's no one around, oh, yeah
Just like Pagliacci did
I try to keep my surface hid
Smiling in the public, I
But in my lonely room, I cry
The tears of a clown
When there's no one around, oh, yeah, baby
Now if there's a smile on my face
Don't let my glad expression
Give you the wrong impression
Don't let this smile I wear
Make you think that I don't care
When really, I'm sad
Hurtin' so bad
Love this! Used it for my vocal cover, gave you a shout out and posted your channel in my description.
Bravo🎺🎸🎷🥁🎶♥️
Who likes this?.
Smokey and The Miracles
HER NAME IS Lannis Hall TEXT BOOK
Wow
@69bann ....thanks, Jesse!!!
Stevie wonder on the beat!!!
It was originally his song. He gave it to Smokey.
No chewed-up tape on this, unlike the original mix.
Smokey's wife is singing on this, but the record jackets don't show her. Oh well!
Yes, she had the loudest and most distinctive voice!
Must be McDonald's Funk because "I'm Lovin' It!!"
LOL
7 people don't get it ...Sad Sad Sad
how that managed to make this music I don't know
Great work, Moso. How are you able to gain access to separate instrumental tracks? Or do you electronically isolate the instruments somehow?
media.....this one, and many others are the actual backing tracks!
