  • A Southeast Asian dance form from the Philippines is called "Cariñosa" dance. The word "cariñosa" literally translates to "loving or affectionate one." This "romantic" Philippine dance, which is said to have been greatly inspired by Hispanic culture, began in the Maria Clara suite of Philippine folk dances on Panay Island during the colonial era. In this type of dancing, a fan or handkerchief is very essential. Moreover, this style of dancing is reported to incorporate aspects of Jarabe Tapatio and Bolero.
