Lupe has a style he calls "resurrectives" where he brings back to life individuals that have inspired him. Michael Jackson's Thriller zombies were the inspiration behind Michael Young History (aka The Cool), The Game, The Streets that can be found across a number of projects he's done (notably F&L and The Cool). Jonylah Watkins ('Jonylah Forever'), Alan Kurdi ('Alan Forever'), the Longchains (first disc) were resurrectives on 'Drogas Wave'. His upcoming album 'Samurai' is inspired by a voicemail Amy Winehouse had sent to Salaam Remi (her producer) that was in her documentary. In the voicemail, Winehouse describes herself as a battle rapper who kills her opponents like a samurai. We follow the battle rapping samurai protagonist story across 8 tracks. The first single "Samurai" was the protagonist introduction and the hook comes from the voicemail (video id: WGM6oI0Qtoc). "Cake" is the third track and 2nd released single. We'll get the actual context when the album drops (likely celebration after being victorious in the battle from track 2), but it's clear Lupe is intentionally flexing on the track.

This is a lyrical flex indeed. It's also, following the theme of the album, set after Amy Winehouse won her first battle. It's a celebration. Lupe doesn't do this all the time though, you gotta go back two years and listen to DRILL MUSIC IN ZION. It's FULL of content and substance

From the picture where TimesNuRoman put the CAT roller, Lupe kept on blowing my mind throughout the song with every single wordplay. He's different.
