Came in to learn about Alis’s pick for note taking apps. Left dissecting my personal relationships and a strong desire to start gardening. PS. Glad you mentioned RemNote :)
The way you explain these note taking apps is so detailed… I think every point truly reflects what the developers had in mind when they created these apps. Amazing
I'm currently on my "choosing your personal note-taking app" journey (I'm leaning towards Obsidian, and it's not surprising since I am the gardener type); this video truly took a lot of the stress out of the process. Thanks again, Ali!
Personally as an undergraduate student remnote has been amazing. Being able to create notes and cue cards to engage in active recall and spaces repetition without having to remake cards has been a time saver and a blessing!
Having a good note taking app is so helpful because my mind moves so fast. I’m always jotting down thoughts ... it’s the only way i remember most things 😝
The timing on this video couldn't have been more perfect. I've been binge watching your videos to prepare for my graduate school next month. Thanks so much as always Ali! ☺️
*Ali in the thumbnail is looking at me to watch this video* since I am avoiding almost every video of him after that TV productivity one since every one of his videos lately, take me into dive and ends up into a singularity of Productivity where I find myself in a Black hole of *The Guilt* of not able to stand alone as an achiever! Enough of the rant! Thanks for coming to the talk!
I needed this video so badly. Right now I've got Joplin, Obsidian, Click-up, Evernote, Notion, Tick Tick and I've been testing all sorts of apps to find the best one. I've officially become a dog chasing cars except I'm actually a neurotic note taker chasing apps. It all started with Evernote becoming funky around the time this video came out. It messed up my professional workflow for a few months and made me search for the "perfect note taking app." I got Notion and started transferring and then second guessed myself. It's been a messy few months. I'm nervous of picking the wrong system and having to transfer in a few years. That is the main thing holding me back from committing - given this is for work. After watching this video, it's become clear that I will use Notion for my business. The database features and my personality make this a simple choice that I am sticking to. Also the ability to work with others is awesome. I am nervous about the few blackouts on Notion given there is no offline mode. I will use Evernote for personal use and some work note-taking. I'll use Tick Tick for tasks. That's it. I'm sticking to this plan. Obsidian and Joplin are really cool. I really like the idea of them but I can't see me using them long term or adding others to that workflow. It's also not how I use these apps. I need them mostly for work and my personal use note taking doesn't need anything more than Evernote, even if it's slow.
Semi-unrelated, but from a deterministic standpoint, people with successful lifelong romantic relationships are almost by definition soulmates. They were always meant to be and they were always going to be together due to millions of years of events that resulted in them meeting, liking each other, and having the ability to put effort toward the relationship. While who you end up with is a result of your actions, your actions are a result of everything that came before you. So while there are many people you could be compatible with, you were only ever going to be with some or one or none. I know that’s beside the point lol, but I couldn’t help it. Great video.
This greatly explains the differences of the apps which I was trying to find from other youtube videos. They only explained the contents and perks of every apps, however, they weren't able to include the personality of the user that could best suit the app. I was planning to get other note taking apps since a lot of them said that "this is the best app ever". Now I know that I am match made in heaven with notion since I prefer a structured but able to customize to my liking. Big thanks!
I use text files, hosted on my own server. Been doing it for years. On PC and my laptop I open them in Sublime Text with my own color scheme (for tags, lists, etc) and keyboard macros. The custom color scheme highlights things like links, different titles (text after #, ##, ###) lists (starting with -, •, >, etc.), bold (surrounded in *), italic, important, and a lot more. On mobile I add ideas to a few "quick notes" and later merge that into my main note system. Benefits: - they open very quickly - I can set global keyboard shortcuts to open specific note files - the custom color scheme really improves how I organise a note - total control over my notes since they're on my own hardware (no need to blindly trust a company to encrypt my notes) Disadvantage: - I can't add inline images.. This is why I'm looking for something that can read text notes and somehow link images into them
Enjoyed your video! After watching it, I’m convinced that the second brain consists of several apps, not just one. It’s rather a network of different note-taking apps.

I started with the gardener framework which allowed me to develop into the architect archetype. I used Obsidian for a couple of years and through all that time I started to notice patterns in my way of thinking. Now I'm using Anytype in addition to Obsidian. Sometimes one leads to another.
I can tell very easily after a bunch of your videos when you know what you're talking about and when you don't. Also I find it better when you're not preachy thinking you know how things in life work. I came for the app comparison, got it, and had to ignore 50% of the other stuff you said. Luckily it's a rare case
Valuable comments on personality type. No wonder I keep getting drawn back to Evernote. I’m a librarian type. Also, have you read “the acre of diamonds”? It talks about how we tend to search for perfection elsewhere, when in reality our greatest wealth is found in the acre of diamonds buried in our own back yard. This applies to relationships, business, career, etc. Sometimes in the pursuit of riches and perfection we end up with nothing. We forgot to open up our back door and start digging for the riches we already possess and which have crossed our path. As Forrest Gump once said...”smart is as smart does”. Something to think about. Perfectionism is like chasing the horizon. Even if you sneak up on it at night, you’ll never catch it, it just jumps ahead. We then live in the “gap” of what we could have had, verses what we chased due to our own emotional poverty. Maybe 80% achievement in life is good enough. The rest is just smelling the roses. I’ve been pretty hard on Evernote. But it really does fit my personality quite well. Thanks for the in-site Ali. Great content as usual.

I love Google keep notes, they all sync together, can include check boxes and alarms, has an archive option. It's perfect for someone who uses a google account for every browser.
Guess I have a multiple personality disorder... I use Evernote for collecting and cataloguing information (Librarian), Bear to write down thoughts and reflections on various topics that may or may not be interlinked (Gardener), and Notion for managing project-related information, planning stuff, storing and archiving meeting notes etc. (Architect).
Take it from a married man, WorkFlowy is my go-to note taker, project manager, list maker, relationship manager. I’ve flirted with Notion & Trello, but I always come home to WorkFlowy at the end of the day.
I went back to using iOS Notes app but now I’m interested in using Notion again (INTJ here) and Evernote to sort things even more conveniently 🔮 Cleverly-presented video, btw! 🏅

OneNote for me. Because the mobile apps are great, and I can use a pen. It's organizable enough with [[linking]] across all of my notebooks if I want, groups of sections with infinite sub-groups, as well as sub-pages to a page within a section. I also trust it will be there "forever". I guess I'm a librarian. As an engineering student, I like having a "library of my knowledge", or a quick reference from what I've learned in all the different subjects with links to relevant math/science/tech. If you note down and explain all the subjects in your own words, you are more likely to remember them, and you'll "get them" more quickly if/when you need repetition as well. The formula/maths tool in Office is fast enough if you learn all the "tricks". I find it much better to write the equiations straight into the doc, than having a spilt screen LaTeX kind of setup. I know people love writing math with LaTeX, but I won't ever use it for note-taking 🤣
I use Google Keep. But after watching this video, I feel like: - I've been gardening on an unworthy piece of land. - I've lost the content I had enjoyed in this long relationship. - Also, that I'm still single.
@@jimmyhua731 Yeah, freemium matters certainly. Plus, I love the simplicity of Google Keep. Hassle-free note taking. However, it does depend on the purpose of note taking. A student might need all those bells and whistles for assignments and studying, but if you're working in a fast paced environment, quick and clean note taking interface works well.
After 50+plus years of doing psychotherapy, I have discovered there are [indeed] 3 types of people {with, of course, blurring between two of them}: 1. People Person - politician, clergy, sales personnel, team player, etc. 2. Object Person - carpenter, electrician, surgeon, gardener, painter, musician 3. Idea Person - researcher, writer, academic, ...teacher, professor, radio talk-show host.
My humble opinion. In the course of the last 30 years, after watching "hot new software" cease and there files become unusable, there are 3 file types that will last - the very best is paper (though it is impractical now a days), then pdf's, then text files. Unless all your data is in pdf's, in 10 years you'll be screwed. (I work in an industry where knowledge grows rather than becomes redundant). Anything that manipulates and leaves a pdf is a good starting point. Stay away from databases and propriety formats. btw - great relationship advice.
I just started using Obsidian after using Notion for years. In my opinion is that Notion isn’t a note taking app. It’s a project app. Regarding note taking and learning, I don’t think there is anything Notion can do that Obsidian can’t. That is, unless you view learning and note taking as a project with a beginning and an end. That’s totally fine, but I like the structure of Notion for projects like development and tracking the books I read, but it doesn’t help me personally with learning new information as obsidian. For now, I’m using Notion to track stuff and Obsidian to learn. I get what you’re saying about Obsidian being more for “Gardner” type personalities, but I think it can also be setup for the architect personality.
I've just discovered remnote and honestly I love it! Although I'm finding it a lil bit difficult transfering my physical notes, it still is an all around app!
You know you have listened to the Lo-Fi Beats-playlist on Spotify way too much, when you recognise the background music and think for a second that you've left Spotify playing (even though the app isn't even open), but it's just Ali using great background music!
I was about to attend the first day of my university so I decided to look for the best note taking app. This video poped up and I watched it. Now I am confused would it be easier for me to find a life partner or a note taking app.

What I found out is that there is no such thing as ' perfect '. nothing in life is perfect, even the word perfect isn't perfect.
He makes everything so philosophical I love it
My humble opinion.
Been able to use Remnote as a solid architect system...combines Anki with Notion!
Hahahaha I recognized it, too

alsadig abdalla have you even watched the video? 🤦🏻♀️
I was about to attend the first day of my university so I decided to look for the best note taking app. This video poped up and I watched it. Now I am confused would it be easier for me to find a life partner or a note taking app.
