- In Germany, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier spoke to the German people in a rare televised address. He urged the country to show solidarity and humanity amidst the coronavirus pandemic. And while many Germans were off work for the long Easter weekend, he asked them to do their part and stay at home.

It's refreshing to hear someone calling for unity instead of blaming others.
Its a case of "preaching water and drinking wine" though.. Germans already shown their "humanity" when they confiscated neighbouring countries mask shippments.
When you are the leader of a state, a call for unity just stabilizes your power base.
To repudiate the iron fist of the state 3:41 while the police enforces never before seen infringements in our freedoms is pathetic.
Unity so long as it does not involve money.
@@MrDisaster88 nobody confiscated anything. Switzerland had wrong papers, that's because it got stuck at the border, but know Switzerland has become its equipment. Even Britain has become some equipment for free from germany, Italy also.

Yasmine Steinbauer He has a tremendous amount of power. He has to sign every bill before it can become law. Although it’s not a veto that makes him more powerful than the whole legislative branch of Germany combined.

I've never understood how societies can pay their carers, police, and nurses (for example) so little.

I've heared of Germany's reps often on the news but this is the first time I've heared and seen the President.
He has only representive functions, thus he is not really that important.

I’ve been watching Trump. Despite him having a horrible personality, He was deliberately misled on corona for weeks, he has now got people around him who he is listening to and he is actually coming on line.
Except, of course, Trump is 'pushing' to get back to normal as he recognizes that the economic damage will cause much more illness, suffering and death than what the current bug will do. Funny thing about poverty - its bedbuddy is disease. Trump recognizes this, and rather than further unnecessarily tanking the economy (such as what Trudeau JR AKA the Spoiled Brat is doing) he is actively giving hope to his people and actively working to get things back to some semblance of normal; rather than give in to the constant fearmongering.
Wish Republicans and Democratic Establishment parties in the United States had leaders like this.

Because people are more desensitized towards the word "war" than they are to the word "pandemic".
It is a war between the "dark side" and God side. The "dark side" made the virus and released it and want to force vaccines. It is a physical war in the body with the virus. It is political with people in power abusing power which is like a war.

It's more a ceremonial role, though he does have veto power. That makes him the actual number 1 in the state...our chancellor is technically only number 3, but naturally she has the most practical power. Hence she is the one you usually get to see.
