    Situations you propose using hope
    1. I hope your job interview goes well and you get the job you looking for.
    2. I hope the decoration is to your liking too, but is there anything else you think would be appropriate to change?
    3. I hope in the aeroport lounge has a good food and nice place to rest until I wait for the next flight
    I hope you continue to share your grace, beauty and knowledge with us 😃

      Wonderful examples here. Each one is appropriate for the situation and has the right grammar structure for the hope it expresses.

    Thank you so much for the insightful lesson! I enjoyed it very much! Sorry to ask one question: I am curious about the difference between these two examples: "I hoped I would meet her today" (this means I did not meet her today based on the example) and "I hoped they would call me the next day" (in the example, it means that this is my hope at some time point). May I ask how do we know one hope is not fulfilled, and another hope is for the future at some time in the past? Is it based on the whole sentence, not just the "past tense" of hope and the modal verb "would"? Thank you so much for your help and expertise!

      Thank you. These are great responses. In the last example, the time tense is a tricky and to keep it focused in the past (since we can't change what happened in the past) we would say: At that moment, I hoped/wished I had booked a later flight.

    What does 'd in "I hope I'd see Maya at the meeting today " contract from ? would ? could ?

    • @Speakconfidentenglish
      @Speakconfidentenglish  6 місяців тому +1

      When we use "I'd" it always has one of two possible meanings:
      1) I had
      2) I would
      We determine which meaning is used based on the context and grammatical structure of the sentence.

    1. I hope Anna has a good result at the interview tomorrow.
    2. O, hello, my dear!! I hoped to see you here in time, but you're a bit late.
    3. I hoped I'd never miss a flight in my life , but today I've been unlucky.

    • @Speakconfidentenglish
      @Speakconfidentenglish  8 місяців тому

      Wonderful examples here. The hope you are expressing in each one uses the correct grammar structure. For number 2, another situation to consider is what would you say to your friend who is coming to help you with decorations? You've already started. What will you say about the decorations when she arrives?

    • @Speakconfidentenglish

      Good start here. Because this is past focused, I recommend using 'hope' in a past form. For example: I hoped I would make it on time.

      Is there a difference between :
      I hope Maya comes to the party
      And
      I hope Maya is coming to the party ?
      At the party would be wrong ?

    • @Speakconfidentenglish

      Thank you for the questions. There is no difference in meaning between the 2 examples. And correct, we only use "at the party" when we are physically at the party, in the moment.

    I hope she would get a job

    • @Speakconfidentenglish
      @Speakconfidentenglish  8 місяців тому

      Because this is future focused, a better structure would be: hope + present simple. For example, I *hope* you *get* the job.
