This was my favorite Spider-Man series. The story arc with Venom & the one where Spider-Man recruited other Marvel heros to battle villains on an alien planet were my favorites. Ed Asner was great as J. Jonah Jamerson.
I liked that episode with Captain America and the other heroes from WW2.
Him hating Eddy Brock’s spunk was a missed opportunity.
me too@@justinarzola4584
I 💯 agree with you
Don't forget the man-spider arc with Morbius and The Punisher! So good.
Morbius' plasma sucker hands were arguably more terrifying than going with the standard vampire theme.
Shockingly, even I agree.
Still sucks that Fox Kids had a huge aversion to true vampire stuff, as seen in the non-allowance of Batman: The Animated Series having a vampire woman named Nocturna do things on Gotham.
To this day, it is still my definitive Spider-Man series.
Me too!
me too.
Us 90s kids really were spoiled when it comes to super hero cartoons.
Marvel spider-man animated series what if the Spiderman found the Mary Jane Watson in the pink wormhole limbo again in the pictures in July 21,2012. Spider-man unmasked to the real Mary Jane Watson in the pink wormhole limbo in the pictures again. Marvel spider-man animated series revival Disney plus. To find the real Mary Jane Watson in the pink wormhole limbo in the Disney plus again soon.
Out of all the animated shows based on the web slinger, the 1994 series is the one Spidey series I always love and still enjoy watching. This is one of a few series that actually understood the concept of Spidey, the characters & the rogues gallery. While I'm sad it never got the ending it deserve, it doesn't change the fact that the 94 series left quite a impact.
True. Though Spectacular Spider-Man has the best intro theme (other than the original). :p
The animation held up well compared to other cartoons of this era,not even the 1992 batman cartoon looked as good.
@@AdamBladeTaylor Both the 94 series & Spectacular stand out as the best ones.
I agree with you all.
@@justinarzola4584I think you mean art style. The animation sucks.
This hit at the near perfect time for me. I was 10 years old, this came on the air, Maximum Carnage came out, it was nothing but Spider-Man for me for months. I used to carry my figures to school with me in a fanny pack near everyday. I had to get my first cavity out and my Toy Biz Venom came with me for comfort.
Maximum carnage also had a dynamite soundtrack. Batman: TAS, X-men and Spiderman all had amazing theme songs.
Taking Venom to the dentist was a good call. A permanent reminder of the importance of good teeth
This alongside X-Man the Animated series are what made me a lifelong Marvel fan.
This was my first encounter with Spidey as a young kid. Incredible art, amazing stories, and a series that was fun and really understood and explored the concept of Peter Parker. I also liked that it portrayed him as a young adult...that's something that doesn't get explored enough outside the comics.
Spider-Man 1994 Originally aired when I was 15. I can remember getting up to record the show on my VCR then going back to bed cuz y’know I was 15 at the time. That’s how good this show was. At 15 I still didn’t want to miss an episode!
I agree I was 9 years old and remember waking up with a bowl of frosted flakes and Poppin in the vhs tapes pressing record and watching fox kids this cartoon put Spiderman on the map in my opinion in the 90s better than spectacular Spiderman in my opinion man I miss cartoons like this!
No one cares about your life. Just be quiet.
Me too, brother, I was 14 when this came out, just starting high school, and secretly videotaping EVERY episode in order!
I was so excited for every episode, whether it was Spidey action or Peter Parker's life. I enjoyed the toys, and proudly still have them and my original VHS recordings (but they are 30years old now with some mileage!).
Unbelievable how much they have edited on the reruns these days!
I have lots of fond memories of the cartoon. It was the first mainstream appearance of Blade, The first time Venom was animated and it even had a 2-Part X-men Crossover episode that was decent.
I liked this show _in spite_ of that X-Men crossover. That really nerfed the X-Men to make the Wallcrawler look good.
Was also where more obscure spiderman villains like the rocket racer and the spot were brought in.
@@justinarzola4584 Spot was awesome in this show!
No lie, this is the first instance where serialized storytelling had me hooked and impressed, lol. As a kid, seeing a cartoon have one big story was NUTS and felt so epic. I was GLUED to the TV for it.
One of the best theme songs of the 90s, that guitar riff still holds up today.
This was always my favorite Spider-Man series. I wasn't overly fond of some of the character redesigns at the time, but I've grown to like them over the years. Plus Ed Asner absolutely rules.
I liked how spider- man monologues to himself like in the comics.
Of course Asner ruled. Just look at his itinerary with the DCAU, the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic duology, and, most especially, Disney Pixar's Up.
As a 34 year old Grown man , who was 5 years old when this show premiered, this along with X-Men TAS, Batman TAS, Superman TAS along with the comics birthed my love for comics, comics culture and superheroes 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Yeeees. Fucking yes!!!
Those shows were awesome and were parts of my childhood.
I'm 36 year's old and I can tell you that's why the 90s was the best for super hero cartoons they stuck to the source material and they were perfect unlike this woke agenda garbage cartoons that exist today!

@@daviddennie4086 define woke. I fucking dare you.
Really loved the show when it began with its fantastic cast of guest voice actors including Joseph Campanella, Roscoe Lee Brown, Hank Azaria, Edward Mulhare and Maxwell Caulfield. The animation was great initially and the CG city shots, though feeling a little out of place looked really cool for the time. The story arcs were compelling to watch, but the quality of animation would eventually decline quite noticeably.
I sure hope Christopher Daniel Barnes gets a cameo in Beyond the Spider-Verse, like Josh Keaton did in Across the Spider-Verse.
Amen!
Barnes is the best spidey voice actor
He seriously needs some representation in the next movie,we already had cameos from spectacular and 1967,just need cameos from 1981/amazing friends, unlimited, the mtv show and 1994.
@@justinarzola4584 amen. We need Rino Romano, Christopher D Barnes and Neil P Harris to cameo
He was in Shattered Dimension, along with most of the other people who voiced Spider-Man at the time. It's an underrated game.
I never missed an episode of this. I was up every Saturday morning to watch and record it. Fox Saturday mornings were absolute fire in the 90s. Just finished rewatching it, too. It's still great.
The Punisher was done rather well within the restrictions of the cartoon. His portrayal is well thought of by fans.
Battle van the punisher was awesome and don't forget blade he was awesome too!
@@daviddennie4086 I agree and Carnage
@@loonytunescrazy it's amazing that they managed to do a character like Carnage despite being a kids show. And they did an awesome job!
@@daviddennie4086 the Battle Van was so fun! And for Blade, they actually used his appearance in Spiderman the animated series as inspiration for the live action movie. Even using Whistler who debut on the show.
The first season was great, of course. But the first arc of the second season was great story telling. I was hooked and excited for each episode. I dropped off for a few episodes but came back in time for the finale which was good fun. I never had the toys save for 2. That era of Fox (and then Kids WB) was perfection.
Christopher Daniel Barnes is the voice I hear when I read Spider-Man comics. Same with Cal Dodd as Wolverine or Kevin Conroy as Batman.
It was a amazing time to be a kid I miss those days. So many awesome cartoons, comics and movies.
Spider-man has had a animated series in every decade since the 60's, many decades with multiple series.
John Semper Jr said the other day he’s more than willing to come back for a revival of Spider-Man: The Animated Series, saying if they called him, he’d bring it back in a second. Wouldn’t surprise me if it does return if X-Men ‘97 does big business like it’s expected to. Great job folks keep it up please and thank you again!
I love this series so much! It also cemented my love of Felicia Hardy. I don’t care how often people plug Mary Jane as Peter Parker’s girlfriend, Felicia will always be my favorite choice for him to date! She was the first and last person to kiss Peter on this show and I still say that they had the best chemistry! I still wish we could get a Spidey and Black cat movie! There’s lots of stories I love from the 90s cartoon including the X-men crossover as well and I never missed an episode of this show!
It’s fun to watch the show on Disney+ and have my 2 year old daughter enjoy that opening guitar riff I enjoyed as an 8 year old. ❤❤❤
Dan, stay awesome!
I had no idea about it being done by Perry, but I was annoyed if I missed the theme when I watched the show. STILL love that theme.
Please don't give Disney your money, they hate you and your children.
Much like Batman: TAS, this is THE Spiderman series. Nothing has and will likely ever replace it. It's as close to perfection as we'll likely get for the web-slinger.
On a side note, it's haunting even after all these years when Spidey loses water MJ. Damn, those voice actors earned their pay.
That Spiderman brought back sooo many memories, this show got me &my cousins through our childhood. Thanks for spotlighting this show
Spiderman TAS, Batman TAS, X-Men, Gargoyles, Spawn, The Avengers, The Incredible Hulk, Exo Squad, Pirates Of The Dark Water, Mighty Max, Tazmania, Conan: The Adventurer, Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes, Tiny Toon Adventures, Duck Tales, etc....The 90's was a Great Time for Cartoons & A Great Time to be A Kid. 😊
And the 2000s
🎶 "Dan Larson! Dan Larson! Radioactive Dan Larson!"
:::Joe Perry guitar solo:::
Hell yeah!
This was one of my favorite shows when I was a kid!
Thank you!
This was definitely one of, if not the best Spidey series. Peter was roughly the age of his 616 counterpart. And let's not forget this show gave us the first spider verse, and even adapted a version of Secret Wars
True the only Spiderman cartoon where Peter is out of high school I wish the movies would let Peter grow the hell up like he did in this cartoon!
I don’t think the 616 even existed at that point when the show started. Marvel wasn’t screwing around with multiverses yet.
@@Superlad945 All that right there is exactly why I hate that crap. I’m fine with stand-alone one-offs; a random one-shot alternate take on a character, or even a Spider-Man 2099 in isolation. I even tried to get behind the poorly conceived and worse executed Robin 3000. These things do not and should not be interconnected though. Multiverses are a headache and a mess.
@@Superlad945 Okay
@Tim_Walden the 616 designation is where the Marvel Comics stories taken place. It existed long before the MCU was even conceived. In the comics, it's Earth 616. That stuff in the MCU is made up bullcra0
I remember when the ‘94 Spider-Man series had Mary Jane fall off a bridge in the rough approximation of The Death of Gwen Stacy story. I could feel the heartbreak when she fell, and grasped Spidey’s rage at the Goblin for his part in it. Chills, man.
I grew up with Spider Man: TAS and it's still my favorite version of all Spider Man cartoon shows. I love that other Marvel heroes also showed up in the show such as X-Men, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Captain America, Daredevil and two characters you never think would show up in a kids show, but it actually makes sense when you think about it - The Punisher (he did make his debut in Amazing Spider Man nr. 129) & Blade (Morbius was on the lose, is a vampire and Blade is a vampire hunter).
The clock on the stove stuck at 12:00 was a really nice touch.
I live by my own rules
One of the funniest instances of the shows censorship was the animated debut of the Punisher (which in hindsight, was a really bizarre choice?). I remember them constantly reminding the viewers he was using "non-lethal" ordinance.
Yet as a kid I always missed that he was using the non-lethal stuff.
@@jdrvargo287 He was such a strange pick for this series. Considering the rules on violence the show had to abide by. It's also unlikely he was here to pitch a Saturday morning Punisher cartoon. Because that will *never* happen. But he served the story well enough.
Later animated debuts ala Daredevil in this and Ghost Rider* in Incredible Hulk were done better though.
*Granted GR did have a visual cameo in X-Men:TAS. He actually spoke and did stuff in Hulk.
@@pious83I'm pretty sure The Punisher first appeared as a villain in the Spider-Man comics.
I'm always surprised that the 80s cartoons had so few episodes because my local TV stations played them constantly.
then you have 70's cartoons, which often had like...70 episode seasons
When they did the Secret Wars storyline and crossed over characters from the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Iron Man cartoons… that BLEW MY MIND as a kid!!! They did the MCU before the MCU!
NGL, I love this channel for all the cool things I don't know, but, when I saw this, I thought it was a good opportunity to see how well the research lined up with something I know a ton about. I've read just about everything John Semper, Jr. has had to say in the last 20 years about this show, and Im really happy to see that you've summarized it so well! I'm thrilled to see how well-placed my trust is in this channel!
One fun fact is that JSJ pushed to put lots of Black representation in the show, directly resulting in the revival of the Blade character and his subsequent film with New Line
My favorite episode(s) was The Alien Costume trilogy. 1 of the best Spiderman stories I've ever seen.
I also loved the finale, where Spiderman becomes a Slider!
The times that Peter gets angry in this series were so good and chilling. When he yells at and tries to kill Goblin are excellent.
I'll always be grateful to Batman TAS and Spidey TAS for being my intros to both superheroes growing up. Though Spidey's show hasn't aged quite as well as BTAS it'll still always be ranked among the best superhero TV shows. Plus, Chris Barnes will always be my go-to Spider-Man voice actor as Kevin Conroy will always be for Batman (RIP).
How can you talk about this show without mentioning the neogenic recombinator? It's responsible for half the plots in the series. It blows things up, mutates people, helps with time and dimension travel. It does everything!
It was easy. Tune in next week when we won't talk about it again!
It must have been introduced after I stopped watching. I never heard of it.
@@SecretGalaxyTV I'll be here next week. I guess I can live without my favorite YT show mentioning the neogenic recombinator. I guess...
@@SumDumGy It's in a huge chunk of the episodes. I think it might even be what creates the spider that bites Peter.
@@justingoers I definitely didn’t watch more than the first two seasons, if that, so I have no recollection of it anywhere in that batch of episodes.
While Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends was my favorite, this one is definitely is a great show. The X-Men crossover was must see tv.
I loved this cartoon! The best Spider-Man ever made (even if they had a few weird things like he couldn´t punch or kill enemies and they had to be creative on it, like the portals meaning the character deaths or punching walls instead of villains).
When they left Spider-Man unlimited in the to be continued world, it was the biggest black eye ever. They could of atleast have a second season to finish the series.
Still my favorite super hero show of all time. I'm pretty sure I watched reruns on Disney Channel during the 2000's as a kid.
For me this series is one of the three that influence my love of superhero media now. The others being The X-Men and Batman The Animated Series. And I bet many others like me will say the same.
I loved this show a lot because most of it followed a plot and story arc, batman tas was good but couldn't be as invested in it as a kid due to the episodic formulas.
Same! I remember when X-Men hit. My elementary school went crazy over them. That was the end of it for me.
Same. First it was batman, then xmen because I thought wolverine kinda looked like batman. And finally spiderman. I was about 5 at the time. Good times!
The goat's of superhero cartoons Batman at number one Spiderman the animated series at number 2 and X-Men at number 3 and don't forget the music was awesome on all three shows with Spiderman being number one in my opinion!
very much so, 90's fox kids in general had a huge influence on my taste in media, it produced so many great shows
Both spiderman and batman series was awesome
Thank you very much for this episode, I love listening to the trials and tribulations of such a pivotal animated series. Also its cliffhanger still makes me wonder what if they'd got renewed 😢
The man spider story and xmen crossover was epic
I just rewatched Spider-Man and the X-Men animated series again this year on D+. Reliving what a great childhood I had. I'm sure my gen-Y family can agree 👍🏿
It was a great series. And was hilarious that Spider-Man wasn't allowed to punch anyone.
In the 1960's cartoon Spiderman Punch a lot of Bad guys after 1968 the Networks begain stop showing fight scene in Cartoons
In my headcanon, he only did that because he doesn't know how to manage his super strength via said punches. Same with how Superman doesn't just use heat vision on living enemies much.
Actually, Spider-Man punched:
- Spot
- Green Goblin
- Scorpion
- Chameleon
- Hydroman
- Morbius
- Black Cat (to free himself)
- Smythe (to free himself)
- Alternative Man-Spider
- A lizard arena warrior
- Two guards
Also, when Spider-Man was a Man-Spider, he punched Punisher and Kraven
So true story: I watched the first episode with Stan Lee.
He was in town doing a signing at my local comic store the day it premiered. My mom drove me down there to meet him, and then we high-tailed it outta there to watch the show. We got halfway home and realized we were being dumb, so we turned around and went back, catching the second half.
We clapped once the credits started, garnering some side-eye from everyone else… until Stan Lee thanked us, at which point everyone wished they’d clapped as well.
It’s a very cherished childhood memory.
There definitely was a definitive amount of care put into preserving the spirit of comics along with their story lines in this, the X-man, Batman and later Superman series, farm than seen before and since. We we're truly spoiled in those times.
I was waiting on this one!! It came out around my 10th birthday and I got some of the toys that Christmas. I loved it so much I put my son on to it back when he was 5. Great episode 👏
I was in college too. And we love the show all my friends watch it
Amazing show. Hopefully they release it on DVD at some point 😔
@@RandoLePerson there are only a few episodes officially released on dvd right now. VOD is temporary and they could take down or alter whenever they want. And bootleg DVDs are just the stuff anyone can find on torrent sites that someone burned to a DVD. I'm hoping for a complete official release like we've seen with the X-men and Batman cartoons. Batman even got a Blu-ray but I'd be happy with dvd at this point.
Will always be my favorite Spiderman series a lot of very memorable episodes. Saturday mornings were special when this and X-Men came on
I find it hilarious that they couldn't use the word blood to describe what Morbius was drinking, but the intro theme song literally sings "Spider-blood, Spider-blood, radioactive Spider-blood"
Hated how the censors got to the show. The most Bizarre thing is the whole thing about not harming pigeons 😂😂😂
Still a fave overall series tho.
I was in middle school when this came out and loved it as well. Basically all my Spiderman knowledge came from this show. Then I started collecting Ultimate Spiderman and probably wouldn't have done so if not for this show. I am still pissed that it ended and didn't actually have a conclusion.
It did conclude. It's just the fact that the ending is of the ambiguous kind, which can be a bit too familiar to Teen Titans viewers and FreeSpace gamers.
I liked the part where Dan said he was born in Florida. He showed real vulnerability there, and I appreciate that.
I loved this version of Spiderman on foxkids Saturday mornings
Put the progress bar back so I know when to skip to the end of the ad lol
Loved this show! About time y'all got around to covering a true classic 😊
this series was my first introduction to Spider-Man. sadly it aired during the time that all the cartoons i watched were a blur and would have to rewatch as a teen to let it sink in. once Venom was introduced, i instantly became a fan of him, which likely opened the way for me to root for certain villains in other media
Since I didn't have a local comic book shop in my town, this show was my introduction to Spider-Man and I was obsessed. I watched as often as I good as a kid and watched reruns into my teen and adult years. I loved the long-term storytelling, the balance between seriousness and lighthearted elements, the great voice cast and the awesome cameos from other Marvel characters.
One of my favorite cartoons growing up, and my introduction to spiderman. At a respectable 5 seasons, it still feels short. The spiderman from the 94 series is the way i imagine spiderman. His personality. Christopher Barnes is the definitive voice of spiderman. It sucks it got cancelled, as it still had many stories to tell. Spiderman unlimited should have used spiderman 2099.
To be fair, wasn't the 2099 storyline made years after Unlimited had its run?
Spiderman the animated series along with X-men animated series and Batman the animated series got me into those marvel and dc heroes in the 1990s.
There was a pc game where you could make your own cartoon using short animated character clips and stock sounds and props and backgrounds from the show. Lots of fun.
Nothing blew my mind more than seeing the X-Men appear in the show. Watching Wolverine fight Spidey was the crossover I had always dreamed of.
That may be so, but it was still a footnote compared to what the DC Animated Universe did.
@@michaelandreipalon359 not back in the early to mid 90's. Marvel animated was king during that time. There really weren't any crossovers in DC until at least animated Superman in 97.
I love the voice cast of this series, when ever I think of the characters I hear this cast and just like with Kevin Conroy being The definitive Batman voice, I will always hear Christopher Daniel Barnes as Spider-Man. 😎👍🏼✌🏼 PS: my second choices are between Dan Gilvezan and Rino Romano
This series was the best spider-man portrayal so far to date. Even with all the limitations and issues with it, the storylines, continuous plot, guest stars and voice acting make it iconic.
I had no idea that was Ed Asner as Jameson in the series. Learning something new every day, though I loved him as Cosgrove in Freakazoid.
My favorite SM series. Always loved Hobgoblin in this.
It was perfect. I fell in love with Spidey when I was 12, and my brother brought home three huge boxes of comics, which I consumed in one summer. Then, just as I started college (where I wrote an interactive essay on Spidey), my favorite superhero (and Batman) hit the airwaves. My best buddy and I woke each other to watch it faithfully every Saturday morning. It was a great bonding time. It stuck around just long enough for me to graduate. This show will always be near and dear to my heart.
This show is responsible for getting me into comics.
YES! THIS, THIS is the Spider-Man I grew up with, and it's the one I think of the most to this day. Ed Asner (RIP) was probably the best voice for JJJ in any animated incarnation (followed by Daran Norris in The Spectacular Spider-Man). To this day, in an age where X-Men: The Animated Series AND both the 1994 Iron Man and Fantastic Four cartoons have gotten complete Region 1 home media releases, it's utterly astonishing that Spider-Man (and the 1996 Incredible Hulk) still haven't.
Honestly, I felt it a shame that Spider-Man Unlimited didn't run longer. I was enjoying that series.
And in case Spider-Man: TAS gets a true sequel set years later, Spidey better wear the Unlimited suit, not unlike how the Batman Beyond suit came into being in the DCAU.
One of my favorite episodes in this series were Harry was revealed to be Green Goblin. I was born the year the show ended. But grew up on Unlimited and reruns.
I can’t say enough how much I loved this show. I followed it every week, that Christmas I got a ton of the figures and that daily bugle play set and I continued to follow it for most of its run until it began to be difficult to follow in my area they kept moving it around; it’s not only what got me into Spider-Man but it got me into comic books, I hope we see some reference to it in the next multiverse movie! Great job on this.
Ah yes. The series that started it all. It's hard to find a Spider-Man media property that wasn't influenced by this series in some way. It's the Spider-Man cartoon that every movie, cartoon, and video game gets their ideas from.
-Green Goblin split personality
-Dr Connors being Peter’s school teacher/mentor
-Otto Octavius being Peter’s mentor
-Eddie Brock being a rival coworker
-Eddie Brock taking incriminating pictures of Spider-Man.
-A Goblin trying to take over the criminal underworld by usurping the biggest mob boss in the city.
-John Jameson bringing the symbiote to Earth.
-Dr Connors being the person who discovers that the symbiote is alive.
-The Vulture having a vendetta against Norman Osborn
-Norman Osborn being in league with the Kingpin (or the show’s Kingpin equivalent).
-Spider-Man teaming up with alternate universe versions of himself
-And finally…The Alien Costume corrupting it’s host is the story for every adaptation EXCEPT the original.
I was pleasantly surprised with the theme. Aerosmith influence on Spidey on the 90s was comparable to U2 on Batman (in fact THE EDGE did the 2005 Animated Show theme for the first two seasons)
Joe Perry did the opening cartoon guitar theme??? Badass dude.😊
the "can you imagine" joke never gets old! How I love this weekly show.
I never noticed this as a kid, but years later saw how good the writing was. In the last ep: Spider Man can't beat Spider Carnage in a fight, but is in a universe where that Spider Man never learned the Great Power Great Responsibility Lesson, But Spider Carnage is a clone of him and Main Spider Man knows himself so well, that the only person who can help, and who He/Spider Carnage would listen to, is Uncle Ben, As he only learned the Power/Responsibility Lesson from losing Ben, He knew himself so well, he knew what to do, and that it was in this world by putting together the pieces subtly revealed organically in the 2 eps. So he got Uncle Ben to try to talk sense into Spider Carnage and win through heart and mind instead of fist. Truly a great show
Batman TAS, Spider-Man TAS, Sonic SatAM, MMPR, Beast Wars, ReBoot, Pokémon, DBZ, those were the days… 😌
Spider-man the animated series was my childhood!
I still remember the kids at my Elementary school debating who was better: Venom or Carnage?
Personally, I like both. Also, this was the Spider-man Series that introduced me to villains like Alistair Smythe, Kingpin, Spider-Slayers,
and different Spider-men like Octo-Spidey, Man-Spider, and Spider-Carnage. So naturally, I was hoping future series would add them, but NOPE!
I liked venom more as a kid and still do.
@@justinarzola4584 Fun Fact: My current 2023 wall calendar is Venom themed.
One of the overall Best animated series EVER.
😄👍
This show right here is what made me get in love with Spider Man as the character, including the first Toby Maguire spider man film. I can re-watch this show anyday, I have seen it about 6 times now from beginning till end, all seasons are watchable and fun, but it also had some nice dramatic moments when needed. The Hydro-Man Returns Pt.1 and Pt.2 comes in mind when we talk about emotional moments. But there were so many great episodes, I just wish we weren't left on the cliffhanger, each time I re-watch the series and get to the end I just can't help but want more and want answers! Either way, if you never seen this show and you are spidey fan then do yourself a favor and watch it, you will not regret it. Yes, it outdated at this point but who cares when the story is on point, plus I still love the animation to this day. Venom's design being one of my favorites, so scary looking 😂 as a kid I was terrified by Venom, his voice and his design just send shivers down my spine, but that one of the things that makes this show so good. This is definitely and most likely still my favorite Superhero Animated Show! Not only for Nostalgia reasons but it's actually damn good, if a show makes me re-visit it 6 times than in my books it's iconic, it's a masterpiece. But I am not going to lie I also loved X-Men Animated Series (90s) also, Invincible is also became one of my favorites (the most recent Adult Animated Superhero Show) and I also have a soft spot for Batman Beyond, I think it hugely underrated and if you are a Batman fan definitely check it out, I know some people put off by that show for one reason or another but give it a shot, if you not hooked after season 1 than I don't think the rest of the seasons will make you want to stay and keep watching but I had a blast with that series more so than the Batman Animated Series... I know, I am probably the only one.
I can't believe I am saying this but I might need to re-watch this again, this show is like a cozy blanket for me.. I put it on and all of my problems just disappear for a little while, i just get lost in it and forget about everything else that is going on in my life.
Better Spider-Man: TAS' ambiguous cliffhanger than The Spectacular Spider-Man's unresolved one, to be blunt.
If Across the Spider-Verse had included the scene with a universe made up of toys and hands playing with them, I honestly would have burst into tears of just joy.
Guess we'll have to wait for Beyond to hopefully compensate.
Either way, curse the traitorous 100 animators and writers.
I was in highschool at the time, loved this series. The was an episode with the X-Men in it, which blew my mind. They were colored differently, but sounded the same. 😂
This is one of my favorite tv series of all time!
Such a classic Saturday Morning Cartoon!
Still holds up quite well! And stays pretty true to the classic stories!
I was such a little comics nerd back then. It bothered me to no end that Hobgoblin was introduced BEFORE Green Goblin. The X-Men cartoon drove me crazy for similar deviations from established comics canon.
Because of this show I have the words "NEOGENIC RECOMBINATOR" permanently taking up valuable space in my brain...
Although the toy-heavy emphasis might have been a struggle for the shows writers and producers, it gave Spider-Man one thing that Batman didn't have: regular guest appearances from other comic book characters. Warner wasn't keen on non-Batman characters appearing in BtAS because they were concerned that Fox would find some way to stretch their TV rights onto more DC properties (though we did eventually get Jonah Hex and Zatanna). Spider-Man didn't have that problem, and even got the entire main X-Men animated aeries characters on for a few episodes. TV crossovers existed before, but they were never as cool.
That I can agree. The DCAU only got numerous guest appearances by the time Superman: The Animated Series rolled in.
And even then, X-M: TAS, S-M: TAS, and Disney's Gargoyles did the long story arc formula first, while the DCAU only mostly started to do that come Justice League+Unlimited.
One of the best series, stories, voice talents, and that theme song
Epic.
Spider-Man TAS is my benchmark for any form of story starring the webhead. Whenever I read ASM or any Peter-related spider books save for Bendis’ Ultimate run, the voices of this show’s characters and its music cues all ring in my head.
Even though it’s definitely a product of its time, it feels ahead of it in certain aspects.
@@RandoLePerson I don’t really think you read my comment considering I said it was my benchmark for Spider-Man stories, but I guess I’ll clarify.
Product of its time doesn’t mean bad, it just means that I can very obviously tell it was made for children in the 90s specifically to sell them toys. I mean, in the first episode, Spidey says he should be taking Meg Ryan of all people on dates, which I doubt is a relatable reference to anyone outside of our theoretical age group.
It’s all about connotation & denotation.
This show was made me such a big Spider Man fan, even before the Spider Man movies! I enjoyed the cartoon a bit more than X Men, because I like the sinister humor!
So I did get to watch the final episodes back then. I thought I was missing more episodes. That Carnage Spider-Ben costume was great. My friends didn't know what I was talking about with the different Spider-men though
I can still hear the theme in my head!! I keep a copy of the full series on my harddrive, along with batman the animated series, X-men and Swat Kats. Growing up with Cartoon Network and Fox in the Netherlands these were must watch shows while I was growing up and they still hold a special place in my heart.
