I like the look of the blue gunnel. We never had "bright'' finishes on our fish boats or work boats On The Great Lakes region here. Your friend Gary in Michigan, U.S.A.

Hello Barry, I would put that blue down the port side gunwale because as you say it will help protect it but on the starboard gunwale I would go careful as all your pot ropes slide over it and if you put gripper on top all the way the ropes will chaff over time. Perhaps keep the gripper towards the bow so you can cross over safely. Great rant and vlog keep them coming.🐳🐬🐟🦀🦞

Hi Barry, it's so sad to hear that five boats are up for sale in Dunbar, the government aren't protecting the fishing industry. As you know I enjoy coming down to Dunbar to photograph the harbour and the boats which I have done for a number of years. As always I enjoyed the video ( especially the Bloopers ) keep up the good work.

Hi Barry, I really enjoyed today's video! I feel so bad for the fellas who have made the decision to sell their boats. Prayin for better weather so the Lynsey B can do what she does best. As always the bloopers were hilarious and your little Disney jingle was a great laugh. I think the non slip tape would be a great idea to avoid slipping.

We are in the same boat literally ! one more 28° C day down here and its an all time record...supposed to be 7° mornings 18° days, seriously bring on Autumn. Kudos t the Rescue Boats one broken bilge pump and an overzealous deck wash was the last time we got towed, that was mundane . When it gets serious that's when these guys are gold.

Nice video Barry. Unfortunately the boats for sale aren’t just a Dunbar problem, there are a lot of crab boats for sale all over the country, catches are way down, weather, regulations and the soaring cost of everything is making it unviable for lots of people. Keep up the good work👍🏻

If only this government when they are sitting in the Houses of Parliament restaurant eating their [free to them}.Lobsters; would think about what it takes to catch them. Perhaps even swap jobs with you for a week, you have their money and conditions and they have your money and conditions. I bet your conditions would soon change !!!!!! Would also be great to see you in parliament, giving them what for, on the floor of the house. Hahaha I certainly would watch that, so would 99% of the country. I love the way the Norwegians make their laws, minsters have to spend a minimum of 3 months " per fishery" before they are allowed to change any laws.so they are getting the real deal, and seeing the job from the bottom....it's a brilliant idea, and keeps everyone in the their place....can't see that taking off here though🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪

Oh.. and as for the grip tape. I'm the wrong one to ask mate. Built a ramp out of decking up to the front door to help my Mum. After one winter might as well have made the dam thing out of grease.
    Still working on a fix.
Adhesive.. didn't like the sun. Rubber matting.. better but had to nail it down!
Not a clue how do it with high winds and saltwater in the mix.

The tapes okay but I would expect it's expensive (It is here in Capt Town) What we do is paint fiberglass resin on to the surface then sprinkle coarse clean sand on to it (I use an old flour sieve) when the resin is dry just brush off the loose sand. It can be painted over and works like a charm and costs next to nothing. Hope this might be of help to you regards John A.

Dam... that must be nearly half the fleet for sale in what is a relatively small harbour in the first place. Then to read in the comments it's all over the place as well that's even more depressing.
We hear some of this through the media of course but it's rare to hear it directly from the folk actually doing the job and.. with no pun intended.. it really sinks in how bad it is due to the tie wearers sat behind a desk.
Just honest, decent, hard working people wanting to earn a crust for their family tied up in more knots of red tape than there is in the ropes on the boats.
As everyone else, I wish you and all the good folk still out there the very best.

Hi Barry, IMHO the blue tape is close enough to match in with the colour of the hull. How tough is it? How well does it stick? How long will it last through use & sea water dowsing? Greetings from sunny (er than Dunbarr) Perth, West Australia. Cheers, Frank.

    • @onemanandhisboat
      @onemanandhisboat  6 місяців тому

      Hi Frank.
Thank you so much for your comment and support. We really appreciate it.😍😁👌
I had actually bought this rubber type substance to use as the scupper covers, but unfortunately, even putting the colour code in, and the seller studying it was definitely the same colour as the Hull, it wasn't ( not far off though) 😞
So, I think it will look better on top of the gunnel as the colour doesn't have to be exactly the same.
So we'll give it try for a bit and see how it holds up to the strains of the sea.😁👌
All the best from Bonnie Scotland.
      Cheers.

Hi Barry, it's clear there's a massive issue regarding the bureaucracy which is killing the industry and I'm sure everyone is sorry to see the fishing families who are affected. It's nothing short of disgusting, your efforts in highlighting the problems should be seen as justified. Please please continue to make people aware all is not well irrespective of what some will see as negativity, everyone needs to know how bad the government organisations are who are ultimately responsible for the current situation. I don't see your comments as ranting, your comments are based on the welfare of the fishing industry and the good people who are trying to simply earn a living which is hard enough as it is without the bureaucracy.

Based on the difficulties with everything other than farming the sea, what incentives are there to purchase a boat. Obviously something is deeply wrong, I'm sure the skippers of these boats know what they are doing. Who will actually throw money into an industry which is actively being destroyed by inappropriate rules and regulations which are clearly not fit for purpose.
