- Good morning folks, in this video I take a ride on one of the famous "High Speed Train" (HST) sets operated by East Midlands Railway (EMR), led by a mighty Class 43 loco, recordholder for fastest diesel loco in the world! Join me as I cruise up the Midland Mainline into Nottingham. Enjoy!
(Also, mistake: these aren't the very last on the MML, they were the last to run the FULL MML and ceased on the 15th May... but CrossCountry still run their services on the north part of the line from Derby to Sheffield.)

Really excellent video Ben! I miss the HSTs too, well the slam door ones! Lots of useful information, well as useful as information can be on a train you can't ride anymore 😂 Well filmed and well edited too. Square space seats? We've had this discussion before 🤷🏻♂️😎
Thank you! Yeah the slam doors certainly have their own charm, and I'll miss those magnificent locos at London St Pancras. I won't lie, I wasn't even expecting this to be a HST so there we are 😂 (sad it was no longer the EMT ones though at the time)
Hopefully the quality of the uploads will only improve over time since this was filmed with the old cam as you can probably tell...
And square seats feels natural for me to say and I'm pretty sure everyone understands it 😅

At least there's still plenty running around - ironically I prefer all the sets currently in service to the VTEC ones.

Yeah, me too, it's sad to have unit after unit at St Pancras now. At least the HSTs have got a good (albeit temporary) replacement.
Apparently East Midlands Railway are to replace the Class 43 HST, Class 180 Adelante and Class 222 Meridian when the Class 810 Aurora IET sets have been built and to be in service from next year and 2023.
Plus EMR have introduced the Class 360 Desiros in service to Corby and Kettering.
As stated in the video, yes that is the plan. Doubt they'll be in service before 2023 though.
