The Eagles had some of the verses down, and Glenn Frey called Bob up on the phone, played a sample of the song, and Bob sang back the chorus on that call. He gets a joint credit. "Heartache Tonight" is a song written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bob Seger and J. D. Souther, and recorded by the Eagles (per Wikipedia, which is this instance, is 100% accurate.) Bob says as much in the interview clip.

If you ever wanted to ask any musician with a brain, it's best to start with someone like Bob Seger. That guy goes way back, and he has a hidden intellect that nobody really realizes. I mean just listen to the lyrics he writes on twelve or fifteen of his hit songs. That should tell you the guy knows a lot about music
That's interesting that he says their manager recognized that they were both too assertive personalities to exist in the same band. I've watched the documentary that was available on Netflix about the Eagles, and when it comes to the conflict between Glenn Frey and Don Felder, I'm afraid Frey doesn't come off looking too good. When it came to the business side of the industry, he appears rather selfish and petty in his relationship with Felder. Perhaps if Seger and Frey had _not_ been encouraged to maintain at least some professional separation, they wouldn't have remained good, close _personal_ friends.
