I believe I know how she got away with the bar murders. She probably went into the bar in uniform or just had a badge on her, and everyone there, being a villain, instantly knew she was a cop and attacked. She went looking for a fight with criminals and used her power as a policeman to get away with it. This is probably why Spiderman doesn't hold it against her, especially since it was her vs. an entire bar
I found it hilarious that Yuri Lowenthal plays Spider-Man, who is friends with a cop named Yuri Wantenabe, who is played by Lowenthal’s WIFE! The circle of life is insane.
The only way it could be even funnier is if Yuri played a character also named Yuri. Like, maybe the one from SpyXFamily (he does share some similarities with Sasuke like the red eyes and hairstyle, after all).
I'll admit, I expected Yuri to have a different role in Spider Man 2, actually coming into play in the main campaign; as the symbiote was pushing Peter in a more aggressive, violent direction, I expected Yuri, who had done that exact descent without the symbiote, would serve as the Devil on Peter's shoulder, perhaps in direct contrast to Miles as the Angel on his shoulder.
Or they couldve had Peter save her early on and when he falls from grace with the Symbiote she RETURNS the favor and works with Miles(and Black Cat) to stop Peter
Yuri is a cop, her skills don't make sense but her mindset does. Cops in real life do not behave like they do on Copaganda shows. They are already one step away from punisher mentality, there is offical police merch you can buy with a punisher logo and blue flag spin. Her mindset is realistic to me if you understand American policing is just another Gang activity. Her skills make zero sense unless she is a suprise attacker🤷🏾♀️
If you ask me it's pretty simple: Just have Wraith be actively involved in the black suit arc where she teams up with a Spider-Man who's increasingly angry and violent, which works on her favor at first, she's thrilled that whatever this new suit is, it's finally making him see things her way, even if his lack of jokes kinda creep her out. But it keeps escalating, and Yuri starts to see all the worst traits of herself in Spider-Man, and once there's some kind of breaking point where does something that shocks even her, it's when it finally hits her: Oh god, what is he doing... *Oh God what am I doing?* Doesn't need to be exactly like this obviously, I'm barely awake and haven't gotten around to writing a fic for these two yet, but I genuinely think not involving Yuri in Peter's downfall to the symbiote was the biggest missed opportunity for these two's relationship and Yuri's character.
Hey don't forget that Mary Jane can take down dozens of highly skilled hunters with a freaking tazer and somehow, SOMEHOW can survive the Symbiote Apocalypse with no critical injury. Silver Sable training my ass, where was she soloing army's of hunters?
@@ironspideybraxtonnothing to do with politics. They are video game characters. A woman being good with a gun is no different than a man being good with a gun in a shooter game like Resident Evil for example
@@watchmehope6560 By what arbitrary standard? Looking pretty was never the point of this character. Also shut the fuck up about Yuri being a girl boss. She use to be a police captain, what’d you expect.
Honestly, by the time we got to her boss, fight in the side, quest, I didn’t feel any regret that Peter had to fight one of his former friends. I felt happy that I finally got to shut her up because she was just such a painful character to watch. They really should’ve made her sympathetic rather than someone who flip-flops between being a psycho killer who will leave her victim tied up in gruesome ways and someone is a flawless vigilante.
@@NoName-ym5zj Its wild how much these new writers DONT understand Spider-man. Peter fed her a knuckle sandwich in the comics when he had enough of her sh!t and webbed her to a roof. She had to escape in order to get away and then remained lowkey for a while
@@no.1spidey-fan182absolutely not. The writing is good. She was already build up from the first game. So she doesn't need another build up or a recap. There is a chance that Yuri/Wraith may return. She would get further development down the line in a DLC or Marvel's Spider Man 3 or something
I didnt really understand why she behaved like an asshole, I mean she was always a little mean to Spidey but in a joyfull way but especially in her boss fight she went all out on him with her insults. The biggest crime is her new haircut tho
Its because they have a disagreement think about it like Batman and Redhood but with crappy writing. Yuri is okay with killing criminals like Jason and Spidey is Bruce but a far less paranoid a hole. Insomniac set it up with the tombstone dlc but dropped the ball in the second game
@@theoutsiderjess1869 The problem with that is that Spidey isn't like Batman. He doesn't like killing at all, and will always try to avoid it, but he is willing to kill if absolutely necessary. But he saves that for the insane super threats like Carnage as opposed to regular thugs. His conflict with Yuri needed more substance to it because it feels very superficial.
I kinda wish Peter said more in Yuri’s boss fight, I mean I remember Yuri saying stuff like how Peter was taking the law into his own hands or something when he’s just a guy in a costume and it made me wish Peter would stop saying Yuri shouldn’t kill or whatever and would say how she’s a hypocrite by saying that or even something like “At least I’m not compromising my beliefs by playing judge, jury, and executioner when that’s not my job and when these people should be given a second chance”, I mean the game already had second chances all around, where was Peter saying something like that. That boss just kinda made me wanna see Peter give Yuri a piece of his mind after saying stuff like that
Yuri - like a lot of things in the Insomniac verse, now that I think about it - feels like lightning in a bottle for the first game. None of her appearances since the first game's base campaign have been anywhere near as solid, even with how small her role was. I'm still convinced that the DLCs, spinoff game and sequel were written by different teams than the first, because everything after it has just felt off to me and Yuri's character is a great encapsulation of this. From reliable side character to a rushed fall from grace arc to dull-as-dishwater vigilante with a bad haircut.
@@Shahriyararin63 I didn't say they weren't necessarily great, just that something feels slightly wrong about them, like they were written by different people.
The first game (DLC especially) handled her so well, the scythe with purple and gold costume feels so different to how she seemed. Had a great chance to create an Imsoniac original version of Wraith, potentially this Spider-Man’s Punisher.
No it didn’t 😂 the first game DLC she acted way outta character for literally no reason. A complete 0-100 in one incident , n then she began murdering and enjoying it a bit later as if she been doin it a Minute. They handled it as well as they did it the second game let’s be real
@@SonnySantana2099 She didn't go in a darker path for no reason. Hammerhead has been killing her men, and every attempt they try to stop him, they fail so Yuri blames Spider Man for it.
Why doesn't Spidey even contemplate the fact that Yuri, somehow, now has powers??? She constantly performs super human feats and it is never once brought up.
Why is it so difficult for you to understand what the bar is for superhuman feats are isn’t the same as real life? Why are you making appeals to reality in a fictional setting?
@@SoyboyPeterConsidering that we see “normal” people CONSTANTLY in this world, what Yuri does is a HUNDRED percent superhuman. The fact YOU can’t comprehend that is baffling. She is quite literally the only person without superpowers we see move like this.
@@SoyboyPeterBecause Wraith has no explanation for her sudden increase in skill and overall strength for melee combat. As someone on the police force, I'd expect her to be proficient with firearms, such as handguns like Silver Sable was. I have no idea how she's suddenly so good and so strong with that chain scythe, but her abilities do not match up with the stuff displayed during spider Man 1 at all, where she gunned them all down with ease somehow, and even that was pushing to super human levels. Of course, MJ in the game has the same problem now. At least she was explained with her undergoing a Sable training regimen at least for a couple months.
There’s a minor detail in the main campaign when Doc Ock releases Devil’s Breath that could’ve been a good catalyst for Yuri’s turn to an anti-hero if handled a bit differently . A phone call with Spider-Man reveals she’s caring for her mother who’s been afflicted with the virus. I seem to recall later conversations revealing her mother made it out alive when the vaccine got administered. A simple change would be to have her mother die. Maybe Yuri acts stoic about it at first to not show any vulnerability while the city’s in crisis, but then her anguish gets expanded on in the DLC wherein Hammerhead killing her men sends her over the edge with the rationale of crime taking everything from her. Having her mother die from Devil’s Breath would give her some parallels with Spider-Man who also lost Aunt May to the disease. From there the story can play out largely the same and maybe have her main targets be Remnants of the Crime families which would eventually drive most of them out of NY for good in the same brutal fashion she displayed when she becomes Wraith. Doing this can give her justification on her methods and give her the same dynamic with Spider-Man that Red Hood does with Batman, thereby having enough tension to facilitate conflict and cooperation depending on the circumstances they find each other in.
I think even a slight inflection change on the discussion about Li could've helped, if Yuri sounded frustrated, that she believed what Spidey was saying, but was shackled by the rules, requiring solid evidence to move on him, could help show the frustrations that could bubble over.
Something that I would note with the Bar With No Name massacre, is the difference in attacks, based on her previous scene, Yuri attacked with a sable rifle, and the infiltration mission establishes that patrons of the bar are required to disarm before entering, assuming Yuri got through the door before anyone could be alerted, she had a deadly weapon and her opponents were unarmed and she was between them and their guns, whereas Spidey will most likely have gone in brawling given the tight space of the bar restricting his standard, more mobile strategy most advantages he would normally have would be lost, leaving just his advanced strength, which he would then have to limit to avoid killing people not to mention that, as we can see from trying to defend the mixer later in the DLC, enemies will likely have been able to slip past Spidey to get to their guns, making the battle even harder.
Tbh tho, there was this one gripe that I’ve always had with Yuri, in the main game, Miles’s dad is getting an award for saving Spider-Man and then, a huge explosion just went off, killing the cop and so many other civilians, and in the turf wars dlc, a lot of her men died from the beginning of part 2, why was she more upset about what happened in the dlc than what happened in the City Hall bombing?
@@ghost245353it’s still terrorism in a place she calls home and has taken the lives of multiple people including civilians and people in the same field as her. as a cop invested in her own community enough to work with a vigilante it would make no sense at all to not feel something or have begun to takes things more personal after that. Especially given that her own form of justice seems to be a lot more flexible to authority given she cooperates with Spider-Man, a vigilante.
@@Aman-eo7mxPeople are always going to be more emotional if they personally knew those people, not if they're strangers with one thing in common. That's just how we as humans are and it makes for her to act like that
It makes sense if you consider the fact that the more likely catalyst for her transformation and face-heel turn was guilt and self-hatred that she redirected outward toward Hammerhead and Spidey. It wasn't about people doing bad things in her city, it was her failure to keep her people safe and her recontextualizing it as being a failure of the laws/rules/book rather than strictly her own that led to her surmising that she should work outside said law to get things done. It's self-satisfaction, essentially. A tragedy is a tragedy in general, but a tragedy you caused yourself is a disaster that you need to live with. Some do it better than others.
Because a City hall stuff was a terrorist attack. The attack on her crew a mob attack one left her feeling depressed and shocked and the other made her angry vengeful because she feels personally responsible for these deaths these were her men and she knew who did it immediately
Personally I really like yuri in insomniac. I get that some people didn’t like it but I personally do but I do agree that they should have explained why yuri is wraith in spider man 2 for people who didn’t play the dlc.

I don't know if you saw the leaks - but recently, someone was able to dig up the WIP outline for Spider-Man 2 from before the pivot to what we got. Given how thoroughly things changed in less ideal directions (the original outline explains Harry and Venom far better, Kraven wasn't even a factor to the plot, etc.), I wouldn't be surprised at all if there was a firm plan for Wraith that got either muddled in the editing process or to satisfy the ESRB or an executive who felt it might go too dark. It's also worth noting that originally, Cletus was supposed to be the central threat for the post-launch DLC, which may have further altered how things progress.
She became your typical perfect girl boss, amazing at everything without trying, somehow as strong as Peter, and faced no consequences for the many murders she committed, and Peter was fine with all that murder now.

I think Wraith could’ve been its own story DLC. Yuri’s Wraith arc started in a story DLC. And since it’s is own story it could’ve focused more on that instead of being a side mission to the main game.
Despite the flaws with Wraiths' story I never noticed myself, her side missions were the most enjoyable story part of the game in my opinion. I enjoyed her character since the first game and am really happy with how it turned out even so, I found it compelling personally, I'm excited to see the next stuff with Carnage if it comes in dlc or however and see the conclusion of her story

I just noticed that Yuri looks younger in Spider-Man 2 compared to the first game. So not only is she some kind of ninja with insane acrobatic skills, but she's younger too...... Maybe she took some potions that reverts her aging and giving her such agility (similar to Kraven taking potions to slow his aging and grant him superhuman strength🤔) Hopefully we can get some explanation in a future follow up game
Wraith could have been more effective as an assassin who fights in the dark, using stealth and the element of surprise to compensate for her lack of superpowers. This approach would also align better with the name "Wraith," which refers to an apparition that appears before someone's death. While this concept might still be a stretch for a cop, it would make more sense than suddenly having her use a ninja weapon when she previously relied on guns.
Since this universe is happy to play a bit more fast and loose with characters origins and identity’s, venom not being eddy and peter still being alive when miles shows up as Spider-Man to name a few (these are good things that make this universe unique and interesting not everything needs to be like the comics). They probably would have been better making her agent venom or something like that instead of wraith. Like maybe in the second game and first game dlc start showing her anger and powerlessness to save her fellow officers then she gets a symbiot and has that power (plus her personality change makes more sense because of how they mess with your mind) and since she’s a badass weapons expert her having armour and guns like agent venom would make sense. But that’s just me making a very half baked idea.
@@spider-man500 I take it you’re not a fan of that change is it because you want venom to be someone else or because you want Harry to be someone else Personally I dislike venom and venom story’s in general so didn’t like the second game for that reason. But the game does justify its choices well enough and at least when they included fan favourite characters like venom and Kravin they actually thought about it and made the story work (something Sony aren’t great at like look at no way home)
@@blistow3519 He sucks for multiple reasons. 1: Harry as Venom here has no real beef with Peter, he just wants to "Heal the World". It's just a very cliche villain thing at this point, as well as being overly dramatic. Venom's whole thing is that he has a deep, petty hatred towards Peter Parker and wants to hurt and kill him. He doesn't give a fuck about taking over the world, he has a more personal and grounded motivation. 2: Venom isn't a monster who takes over the host's body, it is something they BOTH want and agree too. So no "He has no control over his actions, it's the suit". Uh no, it's definitely a shared decision. 3: Venom has a personality. He absorbed more than Peter's memories and powers, he even got his sense of humour. So Venom would normally be able to rival Peter's quippage and mocking. Basically, he has a personality. 4: Venom isn't supposed to have such a deep connection to Norman Osborn, they have pretty much no connection whatsoever. 5: The fuck you mean "Look at No Way Home"? No Way Home was great. And the hell? It absolutely used villains that we wanted, or you gonna pretend that Green Goblin and Doc Ock, especially the Raimi versions are not beloved. Unlike THIS which wastes both Venom and Kraven. And no, the story absolutely did NOT work. They rushed so many plot lines, forced in a stupid Symbiote Invasion, nerfed Peter Parker, made Miles Morales irrelevant in the story, made MJ an annoying John Wick knockoff bitch, and killed off so many villains OFF-SCREEN just to make Kraven look cool
@@spider-man500 As I said, I personally dislike Venom and all the knock-off Venom characters, so I didn’t like this game anyway. But god, does it hurt to see how dumb basically everything you said is. YES, this version of Venom isn’t the version you like, but all these things he has been in the comics multiple times. Like most comic characters, Venom has been around for a long while and has evolved and changed quite a bit. Not every version of Venom has that jokey personality, and they don’t need to; this game wouldn’t be enhanced by having Venom be his usual annoying self (also, the character will almost definitely evolve into that with his spin-off game that’s called character evolution). But yeah, this game does suffer from not being a story about Peter and Miles working together and teaming up; instead, choosing to be a very Peter-heavy story. As I said, I don’t wholly disagree with you. Still, if you’re angry because Venom isn’t comic-accurate when he is accurate, just not to the comics you like, then I don’t know what to say (note that Venom is more in line with this ultimate universe version who guess what, has links to oscorp and Norman Osborn. It’s also not a surprise they took inspiration from that version, as a lot of this universe is inspired by Ultimate because that’s the comic line that invented Miles as a character) Finally, no way home is a shit movie, yes, I love the Raimi version of the character, but in this movie, they are just hollow shells of their once great selves. It’s a storyline full of plot holes and inconsistencies, which makes no sense in its movie, let alone the wider MCU it’s set in. The movie entirely relies on its fan service at the expense of storytelling. It makes no logical sense for characters to be saying their most quoted meme lines, but they do it to get the audience wanking in their seats. The movie has multiple moments where characters just kind of pause so the audience can cheer and clap. You are the prime example of a brain-dead moviegoer if you think no way home is anything above mediocre. No Way Home is nothing more than another prime example of how Sony clearly doesn’t know how to handle the live-action spider man license anymore
As someone who didn't play the DLC, I just assumed I missed what happened to make Yuri Wraith and that's why the change was so sudden. But now I know about the DLC, it kinda made it worse.
The worst part is that of the whole Wraith arc is that Peter let's her go. She is a murderer, not only did she admit it herself, but we have seen her victims before lmao and Peter just let's her go. So ... I guess murdering people is fine as long as you consider them bad and as long as you are Spider-man's friend than laws don't apply to you. If you think it's okay criminals then how about cultists who are literally VICTIMS of a cult that indoctrinated them, the same VICTIMS who Yuri leaves to die. All of this is especially stupid considering how one of the main themes of the game is supposed to be REDEMPTION and Yuri is literally someone who leaves people no chance at redemption.
He’s biased due to their relationship and I suppose still needs her for info. Besides he said he felt like he owed her one for saving his life. Is it still weird? Yup. But then again We don’t see Peter going after the Punisher all the time either. It’s just a convention
@@1321-k6h none of these are good excuses for Insomniac IMO to slack so hard here, it feels like they completely butchered Yuri from the first game, like they took a crap on her, but then also got Spider-man all covered in shit, because he had to interact with her, but they couldn't have him beat her up for murdering people for plot reasons. As for the Punisher we have never seen him in this universe, so it's irrelevant. I see people bring up comics to excuse bad writing on Insomniacs part, but I really don't see how bad or inconsistent writing in comics gives you a pass on your bad\ inconsistent writing. The thing is, you could make it work even if he let's her go, you could maybe spin it into a direction where you show that Peter ain't perfect and he can be biased and morally corrupt or indecisive when he has to confront his former ally or something, but that is not something that we ever see touched upon thematically, their conflict is just brushed under the rug. Maybe they will fix that in the DLC, but as far as the main game goes the whole Wraith thing feels very undercooked and rushed. I also got no clue how she became so crazy OP jumping on top of buildings and shit, that's just insane, but alright whatever. I agree with your assessment, you are right, I just don't think it's an excuse.

Damn... That's beyond disappointing. Not just sloppily shifting character for conflict, but also that Wraith got the exact same "Misguided antagonist/friend that gets an unsatisfying 'redemption' at the last minute" thing that they did with The Tinkerer in Miles' game.
Spiderman 1 was just way too peak, And still is the best Spiderman game, even before miles. The story was so different aside from the films and gave a dynamic experience in the console gaming industry. The characters were on point and made sense throughout the gameplay who they were and how they are affiliated with Spider-Man. The gameplay didn’t feel rushed but thoughtful knowing what the industry would want.
Being totally honest, a lot of the Spider-Man comics give this sorta waffley going-nowhere-fast vibe. Especially in the 90s and forward. They reached a point where recharacterizing major villains and side characters was a common occurrence in order to keep the status quo intact across decades of character "growth". And of course they've infamously reset Pete himself a few times too. It's really strange to see this in a shorter, more focused story here though.
I still remember playing Spider-Man one swing a random event where there was cops and abulances at the park. And I got so excited maybe punisher would show up in Spider-Man 2. Let this be a lesson, dont get excited when you see off the wall random events.
The final DLC story in the first game made it seem like Wraith was going to be a much bigger important character in the sequel, only to see her getting brush off real quick, which is honestly really disappointing. Hope they still do something with her when they do the Carnage DLC story.
If they had explained that in the five years since the dlc, she had been training with iron fist/shang chi, (it doesn’t really matter who) explaining why she’s such a badass martial artist now. If they also explained they she hasn’t been active as a vigilante, and instead has been researching and stalking some of the major crime leaders, but starts her vigilante career by trying to take down Cletus, due to her past connections to him. I think that’d explain a few things. Idk.
If the graphics and character designs didn't lean so hard on realism it would be easier to give this type of thing a pass. But they clash really awkwardly.
They used a whole 22 hour game and 3 expansions for her transition into wraith, not only that but you can't judge it before it ends. She still has the whole possible expansion of the second game to delve deeper into her character
I found it weird how in the span of a single year, she went from a mostly average cop to someone capable of going head to head with Spidey, even if he probably is greatly holding back. What type of parkour training was she up to, and no one noticed some lady swinging around with a knife on a chain? And she came back to New York instead of perhaps killing in a few places NOT watched over by Spider-Man? And if she REALLY wanted it to not be a big thing, she shouldn't have taken off her mask to reveal herself to Spidey when they reunited, it would've made for a deeper impact if like say, after a while and during the boss fight, she makes these vague and personal insults and criticisms about how Spidey does things, and how it seemingly always never seems to fully work, hinting at their shared past, then she could finally say something like "Old Friend" which is what Yuri said to Spidey in that final phone call in the previous game. Or he knocks her mask off and SURPRISE (but not really if you know even a bit of lore about Wraith, or just recognize her voice) it's Yuri, gone down a dark path. Oh man, imagine the whole scenario, but she came at a bad time and had to deal with SYBIOTE Spider-Man, lol. That would've made for a rude awakening
5:07, Yuri turning on Peter and eventually coming to blows with him in her fits of rage could have been used way more effectively in the context of Peter having the Venom suit. He’s already been betrayed by someone else who misdirected their frustrations onto him in the form of Otto. Similar to Otto, she arrogantly dismisses Peter’s help as a hindrance and erroneously deems him to be a problem. But also just like Otto, Peter trusted Yuri to be a better person than she actually was. It would have been so cathartic for a Venom infused Peter to finally snap, having been betrayed by Martin Li, Otto and now Yuri. Just like Martin and Otto, he respected and admired her, he saw her as a decent, honorable person, but she was corrupted just like they were, driven mad by insecurity and hatred while promoting her vengeful ways as true justice. She turned on her friend on a dime out of a feeling of powerlessness and overcompensated for it by becoming a murderous vigilante. If Venom amplifying Peter’s own insecurity and rage factored into this story, it could have likely given it more weight when Yuri demonstrates she isn’t completely a lost cause, such as having Peter become angered by Yuri attacking him and dismissing the notion of trusting him, wherein he would confront her on how her becoming this vigilant hurt him, how he trusted her to be better than this and she let him down. It would have utilized the Venom suit in an intriguing way and also give Yuri a tangible reason for later helping Peter, as he forces her to reexamine what she’s allowed herself to turn into instead of her simply deciding to save him after previously attempting to kill him in a frenzied rage without any sense of self reflection over how she’d treated him. On the Venom suit side, it would further demonstrate Venom’s influence on Peter as it erodes his patience and compassion and brings him closer to becoming just like what Yuri has turned into and perhaps seeing Peter briefly succumb to his rage, something she’s never seen him exhibit before would be what snaps her out of her murderous trance when Peter, under the influence of Venom, nearly kills her and threatens to bring her to police (a call back to her threat to arrest him when he tried to stop her from going after Hammerhead).
I have to agree I think it was a missed opportunity to not have her react the the black suit, then again it would mean locking a side mission to only one act of the story
I don’t know she felt kind of Lackluster to me cause she kinda seemed like an Insomniac Arkham Jason Todd when he was the Arkham Knight so I kinda got bored of her instantly she literally came back as a Vigilante who apparently doesn’t mind blood but hey I kind of wish When Spider-man had the Symbiote he would berate and insult her about how she thinks she’s true justice you know
Yuri was my favourite character in the first game. Hands down the best, aside from Peter and May. Like, I damn near crushed on her. The DLC really got me excited to see this other side of her. But yeah, the way she was handled in SM2 is so weird. If you put, like, Taskmaster in her place, and changed nothing else, it would actually make *more* sense than this, provided you save Wraith for the third game. They should've really committed to her being fucked up. Let her be a maniac, let her be hard to redeem. Idk man, it's such a shame that a character I found so interesting got flipped into something else at the worst time. At least they did right by Tombstone and Mysterio, giving them some proper evolution. Even if it was mostly off-camera, at least there was still some information given to you, one way or another. That said, I like her new outfit, always been a big fan of purple. And I like the suit you get as a reward for the questline. Her own mask is hit or miss though.
Welp I still like her lol. I think she made a good point. However, Insomniac doesn't have good enough writers to have a Daredevil and Punisher debate discussion between these two sadly. But regardless, I understand Yuri.
You are supposed to accept that all Japanese people have elite level ninja skills. At least throw in a scene where Spidey meets her outside of her gymnastics club. Something, anything, that can account for all she can do.
Akira in Code Geass literally has OP magic eyeball powers, and yet he still had to train to being an even better Solider than the Knight of Zero, so the fact that a Japanese film that came out a decade ago has better writing than a modern PS5 video game is just ridiculous that people are still defending Sony as a company.
I'm one of those people that had to look up why Yuri was so heated at Peter since I forgot the whole thing with Hammerhead. I haven't played the game since launch, but I do remember these missions and just thinking to myself "I get she's pissed, but seriously, why is she being such a bitch?"
it is off. she goes from actual competent strong female character to emo no jokes all action badass for the sake of being badass it honestly makes me cringe.
For a slight defence of the Bar with No Name scene, Spider-man would have been going at it non-lethally, and there could have been some supervillains in the bar at the time as opposed to Yuri going guns blazing with regular maggia thugs. But everything else is very accurate. Unless she got some enhancements, there's no way she should be able to do a handspring that goes to the top of a building. The Flame missions just felt like they should have been main missions. Especially when the symbiote is involved and Peter is getting more aggressive with his pre-existing thoughts of killing his villains bubbling up because the symbiote sees that as the easiest solution to all the problems Peter is facing. That could lead to a cool moment where Peter shows that he gets the whole "killing criminals" mentality and starts to get more comfortable with the notion beyond the final mission with the Black Suit. And Yuri would start to push back against it, she believes in her own philosophy and methods (it would be no different than a regular cop shooting at a super villain or a criminal that's attacking them), but she also believes in what Spider-man stands for. While she has different methods, she'll always still respect his instead of berating him for not killing. That's what she doesn't kill anyone while she teams up with him, because she knows that's not how he roles and is willing to set aside her methods out of respect and not making an enemy out of Spider-man in the middle of a fight. Instead, the Flame missions are side content that always feel like they're time sensitive side missions activating right alongside time sensitive main missions. It always feels like it's a choice between one or the other gameplay/narrative wise, but it's never the case outright (Meet up with Yuri to investigate the Flame, or follow Black cat's lead on Tombstone who's life is on the line. Meet up with Yuri at the hospital, or get the Lizard serum to EMF to make a cure. etc). Even the final mission is set at night but is activated during the day with Peter establishing a sense of urgency. And it's definitely meant to be played before he gets the anti-venom suit because of the focus on the suit damage and lack of symbiote abilities used to derail the train (which would come in handy). Compare that to the side missions in the first two games and how there could be an order to them that flows the bets narratively. Or how the side content never gave off the sense of urgency that makes it feel like a main mission while not being a main mission.
I never really thought much about this whole thing too much until this video. Her descent in the SM1 DLC I feel is fine even If I agree the Bar With No Name part was a bit of a stetch. But in SM2 I all definitely too rushed and I'd rather Insomniac built her up more in the sequel's story then become Wraith perhaps in the next DLC or SM3.
I think could be Sweet Baby's partnership that made them backtrack. How they write characters is really bad. Am not going to go into their drama just want to say their writing sucks.
That’s not what they worked on. You can literally google what they worked on bro. They did main story narrative consultation and work on ASL for Hailey’s scenes
I feel like Yuri should’ve became Wraith in Marvel Spider man 3 while in 2 you could have a side mission were the dlc could’ve been and granted the Marvel spider man 1 DLC granted at the same time I feel like this shouldn’t have happened in the DLC since it felt out of place for her as a side mission character
The video game should've gave the player the choice for remaining permanently with the Symboite suit and marrying Wraith, or you ditching the Suit and marrying Silver Sable, but the inconsistencies of Spider-Man's 2 writing is so bad that I'd only ever play that game unless Persona 5 Ultimate becomes available on the Steam Deck too.
Besides not having Yuri be a vigilante who develops into such in side story. They could have used her path to redemption in Spider-Man 2 as part of helping Peter on his road back after being effected by the Venom symbiote.
Biggest problem is the side questline with her and Cletus doesn't take into account the Black Suit at all. If Peter started becoming darker and more violent in a longer questline due to the symbiote it could hv help her see how far she herself had fallen. To the point that the boss fighta happens not because he tried to stop her, but because he tried to kill Cletus and she is trying to stop him.
the reason she is able to kill everyone in the bar with no name is Because in the previous vist it shows your not allowed to bring weapons into the bar so yuri while yuri did so it's a bunch of guys trying to fight someone with a weapon it wasn't going to end well and as for over all Yuri states her mother was sick during devils breath and just as everything starts to go back to normal her fellow cops are killed in front of her as she has to call all their familes and as she tries to bring hammerhead to justice as shown on the tapes her friend is killed by hammerhead again showing her being pushed to her breaking although i do agree it should have been spread out more i think it's fine as is as for her change to from spider-man 1 to spider-man 2 i think it's more of she calmed down after hammerhead's arrest and y'know how spider-man is he always tries to see the good in people so i dont think he forgot i think he just wants to give wraith a second chance
Oh I see it, how did Yuri defeat a couple of Maggi men (what does she have the strength like the hulk) lol? Also why didn’t the cops try to stop her before she pull the trigger on hammerhead? And last but not least, is she didn’t even change much at the end of the side mission in SM2 ps5. I also haven’t notice that she didn’t kill anyone in the second game, although she was about to but was stopped. So her character was going strong but not a moment of her and Spider-Man having a moment where they remember how well things were. If only we get a flashback of how they met.
The issue is that the Wraith stuff really should have been main plot stuff but they couldn't because it was previously DLC. You could have had symbiote Spider-Man becoming increasingly violent paired with Wraith who either pulls him further down the dark path or realises how nuts she became after seeing another person act like her. But because it's side content the symbiote can't be there.
Yuri practically steals the time that could be spent on more Miles and Peter duo missions, I really get annoyed at how they sold the game and how Peter and Miles basically are barely found together in the game.
Mr Negative was great and has a good redemption arc. Kraven in this iteration is the best Kraven we got in any media. Venom is great but needed more screentime
@@Shahriyararin63right but what do you think about Harry being Venom instead of Eddie Brock because I always felt like that they’re pretty much a like.
@@srstriker6420 I agree about Harry being Venom works. It works for Insomniac's universe as it was already set up from the previous 2 games. Harry wants to heal the world but the symbiote give Harry a twisted version of what he wants as the symbiote thinks infecting the entire city with symbiote is healing the world. Symbiote sees things differently then the hosts. Plus even Todd McFarlane said he is a fan of Harry being Venom
@@Shahriyararin63right and he should have made him Venom years ago especially with the original concept of Eddie Brock being a woman and that the reason for hating Spider-Man is like that movie the Hand that rocks the cradle
1 or 2 bad day villians in a spiderman scenario always feels a little weird considering the hell he always gets put through, shame about the vagueness though could have been a neat thing to play with.
I think she could have been used in a much stronger narrative way. She should have directly affected the main story with her influence over Peter in the symbiote. I would have liked a sin-eater incorporation somehow. They could have combined Carnage and Sin-Eater as one too
Honestly, I would have liked to at least see a W.o.S. inspired choice system before the boss fight where you get to choose how you fight Wraith… maybe something along the lines of: ⭕️ Heroic Path: • Spider-Man will NOT use the black suit and will instead try to reason with Yuri. He will still fight her but not use his full strength. • He will fully utilize his speed and agility. Speed blitzing with a barrage of punches and kicks that come out fast but are not as impactful. • He tries to reason with Yuri and talks her out of taking things any further. He doesn’t want her riled up. • At some point during the fight, she is getting sore and tired from the overwhelming attacks by Spidey. You could argue that she is fairly skilled in hand to hand combat, but let’s be real here… this is a normal human who is going up against someone who is super strong, super fast, super agile and has omnipresent awareness. No normal person will stand a chance. • During or near the end of the fight, Peter tackles her and removes her mask; reminding her that she is not a cold blooded killer, she’s someone who upholds the law and does everything by the book. She retorts by telling him that doing things by the book caused the lives of her men. • Once the dust has settled, the two can have a heart to heart talk… Yuri telling Peter that he should have stopped Hammerhead and his gang when he had the chance before she slowly breaks down crying. Quietly blaming herself while Spider-Man, who instead of beating her when she has her guard down, comforts her by hugging her and saying that it’s not too late. They come to a silent truce before Yuri pulls a disappearing act like Jason Todd did in Arkham Knight. • With that, Spidey has saved Yuri from her own inner demons and hopefully steers her back to a more heroic path. Gaining another ally. ⚫️ Rogue Path: • Spider-Man embraces the power of the black suit. Believing that Yuri will not listen to reason and tries to beat some sense into her. • As the fight progresses, he slowly starts to not hold back. peter with the black suit just thrashing on Yuri. • He starts becoming antagonistic. She’s resorting to bloodshed and scare tactics, saying that she’s no different than the criminals she is facing. She counters by saying that he won’t do what needs to be done but he disagrees. He could lay into her like he did with the lizard. Say along the lines of, “Oh if only your men could see you now. Used to fight for the law… used to stand for something… now look at you…” or… “You failed your duty! You failed your men! And now you’ve failed yourself!” Or even… “In the end… you’ll always be weak! Not because you don’t have powers… NOT because you couldn’t save your men! But because you betrayed yourself! Gave in to your own demons, became the very thing you hate and you can’t see it…” • As the fight continues, Wraith is downright pissed off by Peter’s words but notices that her body is getting more sore. Eventually, she gets kicked in the face with enough force that she can barely think after being knocked back. • Peter, rather than pulling her mask off, decides to knock her out brutally by punching her so hard that her mask cracks in half. This in turn reveals her face to be bruised, has a bloody nose, and a swollen cheek. Peter is shocked by seeing how much he hurt her but with the black suit influencing his negative thoughts, he brushes it off: “Why should we care…? We acted in self defense… One less murderer off the streets. What else matters..?” • With that notion aside, Spider-Man webs her up and takes her to the authorities, who instead take her to a hospital. Later finding out she is in a coma after being beaten by him. He may have won the fight but he has lost a good friend and gained a new enemy. I know that this was a long story and very cringe at best but I just wanted to share my thoughts on how much wraith’s character was rushed and how much wasted potential there was… sorry for boring everybody.
If they’d hinted at Yuri’s break away from the system in the main game. Like when the devils breath gets out & everyone starts to going crazy. Yuri has the occasional power fantasy while in a call to Spider-Man & he snaps her out of it before she starts to lose herself. I feel like her eventual turn departure from the NYPD would have been way more natural.
I really think her missions in the second game should’ve been put in greater relation to the main story compared to what it was. Spider-Man facing his comrade’s fall from grace and drive for vengeance against Kletus should’ve been a parallel to Peter facing Harry’s downfall. It puts Kraven’s words of “There are no good men” into perspective. And given that the driving factor of both stories are an Oscorp symbiote, it should’ve been a no brainer.
I fail to see the leap from cop to ninja. I think this is another case of insomniac trying to make the women in peters life more powerful without any real compelling reason for them to be so. Can't a character just be a normal person? Why do they always have to be girlbosses.
I think it mostly makes sense... but I do agree something felt off. I mean, cops sometimes kill people, so it doesn't feel like a huge stretch for a cop to turn vigilante that kills... but I feel like she should've been a BIT less willing to do it. Like, doesn't she just kill everyone? I think she should be more like who Red Hood wants Batman to become. Basically, "I'm not asking you to kill Catwoman or Penguin. Just JOKER." Yuri should be trying to track down Cletus, with the goal of killing him... and willing to kill a thug or two who is clearly TOO in the way... but TRIES to leave most alive. Idk, maybe it's because we missed 5 years? Maybe her arc happened and made her more willing to kill? I mean, using the Batman example again, his response to Jason is basically, "I CAN'T kill Joker. I won't stop with him. And then how long will it be before I kill purse snatchers and jaywalkers?" And I also agree, she's too skilled. Too indestructible. Like, she doesn't even have Cap's Super Soldier Serum flowing through her veins like Black Cat. I don't think she even went and trained with Sable, who at least is supposed to be one of the best fighters in Marvel, right? Even MJ feels less problematic to me... and she's still pretty ridiculous, herself. Edit: Wait, she DIDN'T kill in Spider-Man 2? I thought she was killing everyone.
The thing that made me not like her is that she will never high five you after you help her stop a crime and she is just unreasonably cold to spider-man even after you finish her side missions
I find the no kill thing so painful sometimes. It’s something that makes a character like spiderman so great so I don’t think it’s bad but when it’s so rushed and not really interesting and focuses around a dude who is about be carnage, and absolute freak, it just doesn’t feel good. It’s like a cartoon character talking to a soldier in the middle of a warzone.
I thought all this time she actually did kill hammerhead, dang. It doesn't matter either way because she still admits having had killed and still killing criminals later, so she is a murderer. He just ignores her crimes and potential to keep committing murders just cause their history and cause she saved him from the train. Also, did anyone notice how negative her dialogue is towards Peter when she helps during crimes as compared to miles? She always compliments or is nice to miles at the end where as she always has something negative to say about Peter. She's known Peter for longer and actually has a relationship with him and end her section of the side stories on ok terms. I don't recall her actually meeting miles during any part of the main story or side missions. Peter was just so weak this entire game compared to miles. He took on the sinister 6 himself back to back and barley won but still did. Loses to wraith, repeatedly loses to venom and loses to miles. The miles one you can argue that's because of the symbiotes weakness to sound, bad he not had any draw backs, he could have won, but no. Because he gets the anti venom symbiote, which has all the benefits of the symbiotes without any if the drawbacks and he constantly gets ragdolled by venom where as Miles is shown to hold his own. Also in the first game when Peter was stabbed by scorpion he had to make a cure even while hallucinating, Miles just got over it no problem.
‼️Read This ‼️ In the DLC it is mentioned when clearing out the maggia bases that Hammerhead have had a long history together and that he was always the #1 person on her criminal list. Later, she witnesses her men die in a horrific way by hammerhead, as well as the death of an officer who saved her life by turning hammerheads attention from Yuri to himself and this caused his death. After that she had to call every man’s family and tell them about what happened which can’t be easy. And if you actually listen to the recordings of the tapes that she leaves in the final act, she witnesses the death of a therapist she was talking to and who was trying to help her by the maggia criminal, who she later killed and who we can see tied up with a bag on his head. After she killed him she realized how much better it felt than locking him away and having the possibility of him breaking out of Ryker’s or the Raft like in the main story. So I feel like it’s unfair to say she underwent through no character development
Next up, Arkham Knight: How To End A Series: ua-cam.com/video/F6_m7dKiNDw/v-deo.html

*Oh God what am I doing?*
Doesn't need to be exactly like this obviously, I'm barely awake and haven't gotten around to writing a fic for these two yet, but I genuinely think not involving Yuri in Peter's downfall to the symbiote was the biggest missed opportunity for these two's relationship and Yuri's character.

The City Hall bombing wasn't her men. She wasn't in charge of those personnel. It was personal in the DLC
@@ghost245353it’s still terrorism in a place she calls home and has taken the lives of multiple people including civilians and people in the same field as her. as a cop invested in her own community enough to work with a vigilante it would make no sense at all to not feel something or have begun to takes things more personal after that.

That could explain why the story feels disjointed in some ways.
So…there was an outline before the first reveal trailer?
Where can we see this outline?

Explanation:yes
Harry being Venom is NOT a good thing
@@spider-man500 I take it you’re not a fan of that change is it because you want venom to be someone else or because you want Harry to be someone else
Personally I dislike venom and venom story’s in general so didn’t like the second game for that reason. But the game does justify its choices well enough and at least when they included fan favourite characters like venom and Kravin they actually thought about it and made the story work (something Sony aren’t great at like look at no way home)
@@blistow3519
He sucks for multiple reasons.
It’s also not a surprise they took inspiration from that version, as a lot of this universe is inspired by Ultimate because that’s the comic line that invented Miles as a character)
Finally, no way home is a shit movie, yes, I love the Raimi version of the character, but in this movie, they are just hollow shells of their once great selves.

The only point I would argue with is 2, beyond that this is a good list.
I remember someone pointing out that Yuri’s Wraith costume in the game looks like something straight out of a CW DC show and now I can’t unsee it.
The dlc in the first game explains alot but what they did with her in the second game was criminal
To be fair, in the first minute of the video. I didn’t know that Yuri was a comic book character. 🤷🏽♂️
And this is why I never wore the awful Spider-man/Wraith costume you get for completing her side missions.

I loved Yuri in the first game because she was a great character and Spider-Man was working WITH the police for once.
Damn... That's beyond disappointing. Not just sloppily shifting character for conflict, but also that Wraith got the exact same "Misguided antagonist/friend that gets an unsatisfying 'redemption' at the last minute" thing that they did with The Tinkerer in Miles' game.
The biggest problem with Spider-Man 2 was the story easily
This was planned from the start… she was already on her way to being wraith five years ago
Her character arc only serves to give her the strong angry lesbian haircut.
Welp I still like her lol. I think she made a good point. However, Insomniac doesn't have good enough writers to have a Daredevil and Punisher debate discussion between these two sadly. But regardless, I understand Yuri.
Her transformation was showed off screen, of course it’s gonna feel off.

10:00 did you not do the mafia bases? They explained why she reacted the way she did.
Loving the constant costume changes throughout the video
the reason she is able to kill everyone in the bar with no name is Because in the previous vist it shows your not allowed to bring weapons into the bar so yuri while yuri did so it's a bunch of guys trying to fight someone with a weapon it wasn't going to end well
and as for over all Yuri states her mother was sick during devils breath and just as everything starts to go back to normal her fellow cops are killed in front of her as she has to call all their familes and as she tries to bring hammerhead to justice as shown on the tapes her friend is killed by hammerhead again showing her being pushed to her breaking although i do agree it should have been spread out more i think it's fine as is
as for her change to from spider-man 1 to spider-man 2 i think it's more of she calmed down after hammerhead's arrest and y'know how spider-man is he always tries to see the good in people so i dont think he forgot i think he just wants to give wraith a second chance
Aside from black cat, the women in this game are insufferable

• Spider-Man will NOT use the black suit and will instead try to reason with Yuri.
⚫️ Rogue Path:
• Spider-Man embraces the power of the black suit.
Gave in to your own demons, became the very thing you hate and you can’t see it…”
• As the fight continues, Wraith is downright pissed off by Peter’s words but notices that her body is getting more sore.
What else matters..?”
• With that notion aside, Spider-Man webs her up and takes her to the authorities, who instead take her to a hospital.
Why do they always have to be girlbosses.
did you not play the DLC of Spider-man PS4!? They set her up in that buddy.
you make a lot of good points hopefully they can improve on this
I think it mostly makes sense... but I do agree something felt off.
And then how long will it be before I kill purse snatchers and jaywalkers?"
And I also agree, she's too skilled.
I dont mind the rush or change for her. But they didn't show any flashback or MORE MISSIONS to explain her story, which just makes me mad.
I feel like having a section to play as her it would make it a lot better her as a cop was much better too.
Mary Sue/girl bossificaton of their female characters.
Interesting sequel flaws. Who was the story consultant on Spider-Man 2? Hmm..

15:00 bro how in the hell did she just do that?😭 do yk how much leg power this takes??
She went from my favorite character in The Insomniac universe to someone I freaking hate. Within the hour. Freaking whiplash.

In the DLC it is mentioned when clearing out the maggia bases that Hammerhead have had a long history together and that he was always the #1 person on her criminal list.
