    I've done maybe a hundred how to deadlift tutorials. This one was about as good as it gets. Not 60 seconds and not 30 minutes. Efficient videos mean efficient execution. Most people destroy any sense of proprioception with too many cues. Hopefully these two bring in a lot of new clients.

      i was just thinking about this, literally just started deadlifting last oct and despite watching many tutorials it never really "made sense". this video had me instantly going "OOOooooohhh!!!" cause it seems like several things just clicked

    Appreciate the tips, had a minor injury recently deadlifting even though I've been doing this for 13 years now. There's always room for improvement

    Never once have heard retracting the shoulder blades is a good idea for pulling. Extends the ROM. Interesting take.

    • @phoenixperformance1958
      @phoenixperformance1958 2 роки тому +3

      Theres a difference between RETRACTING the shoulders and being in RETRACTION. When 99% of people reach to grab for the bar and set up they will be in protraction. So retracting then gets them back to neutral, along with pulling the slack out of the bar.
      Yes, being in a fully/maximally retracted position to deadlift would be silly.
      A, because of the longer ROM
      B, but more importantly because there is no way you can maintain a fully retracted position while pulling an even moderately heavy deadlift. Youll get pulled out of position.
      How we cue it is "retracting while keeping collar bones as wide as possible". This creates tension through retracting just enough (primarily isometrically) while keeping us in neutral range (strongest positional strength)

      @@phoenixperformance1958 thanks for the in depth response. Clears it up a bit. All I focus on with my upper back is pulling the elbows in, nothing else. I believe that’s accomplishing what the video is going after. Being it was given in two separate cues, I figured it was specifically to get the scaps pulled together.

    I've always hinged at the hips to meet the bar, instead of squatting down, is the squatting down a better set up?

    • @phoenixperformance1958
      @phoenixperformance1958 2 роки тому

      The idea to squatting first is to align the shins on the bar (setting the knee angle first) which stops people "over squatting" down to the bar. Weve found this almost always eliminated that issue. BUT the best method is the one that gives YOU the best set up

    If you miss deadlift at the knees what is my weak link?

    • @Dr_Footbrake
      @Dr_Footbrake 2 роки тому +1

      Unless you’ve lost shape that’s the point where the bar is furthest away from the hips and your spinal erectors have to work the hardest
      Tl;dr unless your technique sucks it’s probably low back strength

    • @phoenixperformance1958
      @phoenixperformance1958 2 роки тому

      If positioning is good - hamstrings. This is the point posterior chain takes over to start extending the hip but also where the hamstrings are in their most lengthened (weakest) position

    • @domepiece11
      @domepiece11 2 роки тому

      Probably hip extension. I highly recommend hip thrusts.

    my answer to that question without even watching the video first Is there is a lot left on the platform in the Deadlift because every federations dumb ass rule that you’re not allowed to use lifting straps but you can use suits and wraps and that’s OK I have no issue with using any of that stuff I have an issue with not allowing lifters to use straps because we all know you can pull more so why limit a persons total because of a dumb ass rule

      @schmellywittleidiot 2 роки тому +2

      @@ironcathedral4723 well if you're not interested in competing powerlifting OR strongman then you're competing against yourself, and you make the rules. Pull with straps, genuinely no one feels strongly about how you pull your deadlifts, lets just get strong.
