    Thank you for this video, it’s so detailed. I am currently pregnant and have been looking for all this information for the longest. ❤

      You are welcome sisi. I'm happy you learnt something from it. Keep in mind the amounts mentioned here are for when things go well and there are no complications. The amounts might be more also depending on the specific hospitals. However if you can have these minimums, you should be good! 👌

    How do Midwife fees apply on multiples (twins, triplets, etc)? I would prefer birthing naturally.

    Hi ladies please help me understand something. Do you have to book a bed in advance in private hospital to give birth there or can you just walk in the day you feel contractions

    • @Nurse_Hlalis
      @Nurse_Hlalis  Рік тому +2

      You need to book a bed and have a private obstetrician that's backing you up there. For you to go to the ward the obstetrician will need to be called. If you just walk in there you won't have an obstetrician and the current obstetrician at that hospital might or might not want to take you because they don't know you and have not been with you throughout your pregnancy.

    Well I saw the very 1st video you made and even commented about how frustrated I was feeling at the time, with my Gynae...
    Any way I planned to have a natural vaginal birth with the said Gynae but ended up having an emergency c-section instead, after being induced at 39 weeks due to an umbical artery something something...lol.
    I have a medical aid but the way these doctors claim feels excessive to me (just my opinion).
    My first appointment with the Gynae was approx. 2.5K excluding blood tests that were about 2.1K. Follow up appointments were around 2K which by the way the medical aid wasn't full covering, so some of the shortfalls were taken from my medical savings account. Then there were other things like checking for down syndrome and stuff which was out of pocket and cost me about 2.5K and gestational diabetes checks which were about R250. Due to my baby not growing from 36 weeks to 37 weeks I was referred to see a Fetal specialist as a 2nd opinion which cost me 1.5K out of pocket again. I was then told that it was best to induce at 39 weeks.
    The hospital had a 2.7K non-refundable bed booking deposit (estimated, I can't remember the exact figure but I paid out of pocket). My hospital stay ended up being Monday to Saturday with the induction failing and having a jaundiced baby. My bill alone from the hospital was 58K, the anestesiaologist charge 12K, my gynae charged 19K, the paediatricain charge 2.5K, then the other consultants (e.g lactation, phyiso ) charged around 3K combined. Then because my baby had jaundice I had to book the baby for admission which was about 9K for 1 night inclusive of the machine they used for the baby. Blood tests were a separate cost alone.
    So in essence when you want to have a baby, I really strongly advise that you try and plan as much as possible especially if you prefer private facilities. Please keep in mind that every pregnancy and birthing experience is different for every woman, I am just sharing mine so as to give an idea of how things can quickly escalate financially. So try to be prepared!.
    Side note: I wanted to have a midwife assisted birth but felt it was too late to make the change.

      Bonolo, thank you so much sis for giving us such a detailed explanation of the costs you had to incur. I think this will really help everyone who's planning to have a baby and you are 100% right! Things don't always go as planned so a person needs to know they are fully ready to go on this journey. And if someone is low risk, it's best to go with a Midwife. Even though unexpected events do occur with midwives but the primary costs will already be lower than with a gynae.
      And it really helps to be on medical aid while pregnant. As much as medical aids don't cover all the costs but atleast you won't pay everything out of your pocket!
      Thanks so much dear! ❤

      I am also experiencing this with my Gynecologist. Strange thing is this is all new. With my daughter all her charges were as per medical aid. I spoke to my medical aid to give me list of their Gynecologists and went to the nearest Life hospital to get a resident Gynecologist there. All the charges are within the medical aid tarrifs.

    Hi there
    I wanted to know do you offer home birth services or is that not a thing in South Africa due to risks?

    • @pheladintefeng
      @pheladintefeng Рік тому

      If you don't offer that, do you mind suggesting a midwife that does ...

      @Nurse_Hlalis  Рік тому

      I personally don't offer home births at this moment. It is something that some other midwives do offer though. You can search Midwife Sally on Instagram, I think she does homebirths.

    Can I use a midwife for my antenatal care then give birth at any desired public hospital?

    • @Nurse_Hlalis
      @Nurse_Hlalis  Рік тому +1

      Yes you can do that. A few weeks before you give birth you can go to the public clinic so you can be known there and be able to give birth there.

      @@Nurse_Hlalis Do you take medical aid for your consultation??

    • @Nurse_Hlalis
      @Nurse_Hlalis  Рік тому +1

      @Masego Ntshudisane yes I do but it also depends which medical aid it is and how much it pays for antenatal visits and delivery fee. With most of them, there will be a co-payment that will be required from the client. So I issue out an invoice so the client can claim the money back from the medical aid.

      @@rhulaniraymasingi7413 that would be great, but also a lot of time from my side. So because I don't have unlimited time, I have chosen to look up what I can according to the time that I have. People also need to put in the work and do their own research too.
