I've studied another philosophy from a culture long- gone. I've read over a dozen long books on this one style of teaching. Now, I am studying Judaism and Qaballah. I find an interesting similarity from the types of things these wise men are saying. The importance of your intent. Not just intentions, but the pure intent at the moment of action. I agree and I have been saying this for a while but nobody listens. These videos are great.
This was an extraordinary lecture. But at 55:00 the story of Daniel was not with Nebuchadnezzar. Also it was because he was praying not because he was rebelling.
Sometimes the degree to which one is spiritually vulnerable is reflected in placing what you think is the welfare of another above your own, shielding them from the effects of their actions. As, for example, when a parent shields a child from consequences, e.g., knowing the child committed a theft the child cannot or will not repay. Later the child may steal from the parents with little or no compunction.
Really appreciate this shiur! It's answered questions I've always had. What I don't understand is why the Rabbi says that 99.9% of the time it is what Divine hashgacha had planned. How is such a high percentage of what happens destined to happen when we are living amongst people 24/7 who each have free will and whilst we are all far from being righteous enough to get saved?
My question was how could it be that 99.9% of the time it is hashgacha if the Almighty doesn’t interfere in people’s free will. I would think hashgacha would be a significantly smaller percentage. A person is constantly in interaction with people; surely a lot of what happens to a person is as a result if what those people decide to do to you.
I think what Rabbi Tatz doesn't say but is trying to show with telling the story at minute 54 is that humans and animals are different in the sense that for humans what exists in the space between stimulus and response is our own ability to intercept our biological programming as we decide (Hashem gave us spirits with the god-like capacity to be sovereign over the temporal bodies they inhabit), whereas for animals (even if they do have some degree of choice, which like, I think could be argued but I don't personally know what authoritative sources could be used to back it up) what exists in the space between stimulus and response is the more absolute ability and willingness of Hashem to intercept their biological programming in order to generate the precise outcome He wills.
Shalom, Salam, Peace. In The Name Of God, Most Gracious, Most Compassionate. Quran [Last Testament] [3:84] Say, “We have believed in God and in what was revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, and the Descendants, and in what was given to Moses and Jesus and to the prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and we are Believers [submitting] to Him.” [4:157] And [for] their saying, “Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of God .” And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain. [4:171] O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about God except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of God and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in God and His messengers. And do not say, “Three”; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, God is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is God as Disposer of affairs. [4:172] Never would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of God , nor would the angels near [to Him]. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant - He will gather them to Himself all together. [5:17] They have certainly disbelieved who say that God is the Christ , the son of Mary. Say, “Then who could prevent God at all if He had intended to destroy the Christ, the son of Mary, or his mother or everyone on the earth?” And to God belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. He creates what He wills, and God is over all things competent.
The best talk I’ve ever heard on this topic. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this lecture, Rabbi Tatz.
Amazing, as always! Rabbi Tatz is a gift to the world. Praise H"bH.
Excellent and most thought-provoking :)

He's not saying that. He's saying, EVEN if 99.9% of events are predestined, there are still examples of free will in action.

Chazak!
What book he was talking about? The one written for a 12 year old?
I would very much like to see it.
Thank you
