Hey Tom - Longtime viewer, seldom commentor. I’ve been in the Neo-natal ICU with my newborn son the past couple of weeks (working on his feeding). He’s doing good and on his way out eventually, but I just wanted to say thanks for the great stretch of videos you’ve been puttin out recently that has coincided, they’ve really helped with the stress and provided me nice escapes into the chill, perfectly sized, homeskoolin’ classroom.
My son was born at 27 weeks (1 lb 7 oz). He stayed in the NBICU for 3 months. He's now 24 and healthy as can be. Prayers for you brother. You and God have this!
Everytime I watch a video from Uncle Larry, I feel like I have walked into a Speakeasy that only a few other people know about. The hidden gem of youtube.
Hey Tom I'm the 3rd person comment guy and I'm truly sorry if I offended you cause I think you are as talented and unique guitarist as I've ever seen. Jerry stands chastised and contrite. Was just popping off. Sorry dude
I have literally met and shot the shit with most of the greats of music. Page, Clapton, Walsh, Paul Rogers, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gains, all the Skynyrd boys, Frampton, Santana, Scholz, and hundreds, if not thousands more, but you are way beyond the legend of it all Tom. 700 plus albums on your resume, not too many out there can hold a candle to what you’ve contributed to the music world. So I just want to send you all the respect and kudos you’ve EARNED. Fuck all the nay sayers out there who just don’t get it. Fuck ‘em all. You’re a kind soul, and a vast wealth of musical knowledge, which you generously share with each an every one of your videos. Keep ‘em coming my friend.
“Don’t be spreading misinformation about Ritch Blackmore” freakin killed me. Much love Uncle Larry you should consider a standup routine to go with your guitar sets, you are a king of the one-liner
I TOTALLY didn't see that coming. That chord change. Made me laugh when you said we didn't see that coming. Because it was 100% true. The thing about those surprises is that it creates instant delight. Very Beatles. I'm just happy to be one of the People. The Home Skoolin' People. It's a cool place to be. Thumb's up.
Third person Uncle Larry has been an integral part of the fun here since the early Corona lessons days. Inextricable part of the Homeskoolin' brand. Cracks me up and always makes me feel better. ( Reminds me of Karl Malone too:) Thanks for all of the amazing wisdom and help brother!🎸
You infected me with the Beatles virus. I am not joking. At first I was laughing about you loving Beatles. I am laughing no more. They are absolutely amazing ! It’s like every song is unique and amazing. 👍🤟
It's amazing how your presence in my (our) life have became a moment that I am always looking for day by day. Tom you are like a friend I love to hear stories from.
@@501chorusecho Thanks to you again. I hope one day to meet you in person. If, one day, you will come to Italy (Pisa, the city of the leaning tower) remember you have a friend here :)
"Not going to learn the fingering for smoke on the water." I almost spit out my drink. Then you played it (the right way) and I almost spit it out again! You're a goddamn treasure Uncle Larry. No bullshit - Your videos helped drag me through the last 2 years of garbage and have been an absolute highlight. I've been playing for 30 years and I learn something every time I watch you play.
I've been watching since day one, haven't missed an episode, amazing and thank you Tom for sharing your gift. I've been playing guitar for 41 years and somehow you play something I've never heard before in every episode, stunning.
You give real advice. I've been swamped with these "learn the secret to guitar playing for only $5 a month" ads lately. I've learned so much from you in the last year. Thank you.
Uncle Larry, I love your body language when you play these incredible grooves. I even caught myself imitating your guitar face while I play - it’s infectious :-)
Love your chats man, such a breath of fresh air. Hate the haters, love your music teaching, they have been soooooo inspiring, you have changed my playing forever, thank you.
a note of appreciation for your time and energy you've been sharing. am a singer songwriter, love to write, and have put that above my playing efforts. watching your vids, and the lifelong passion for your instrument and craft you possess, well...it's just damn inspiring. gotta love it. the info you've been offering is way above my pay grade (i used to think a triad was a trio) but it has really got me excited about the endless possibilities a fretboard offers. you have lit a fire and i am one pumped up old man. thank you tom bukovac. you rock.
I think you hit the nail on the head Tom. I'm about your age, I play guitar (not well) but I come here with my beer (or wine) and hang out like we're just chilling in the house, shooting the shit and exchanging guitar stories and licks. That's my vibe and where I want to be and you are entertaining and down to earth, and those are the kind of folks in my life I call friends. I think there's a lot of younger guys (and gals, or maybe older cats too), and they just want to crank out the five chords needed to play a Stones tune and get it in their repertoire, and there's a million "cool dudes" teaching that way on the web, and that's cool too (I guess) but it bores the living shit out of me. What's funny is I will watch those guys do that stuff occasionally, but I never try to actually learn the songs the way they play them, I just watch and get bored. And then ultimately, I just try and learn the songs myself. But you always have some deep knowledge about playing or technique that is way more interesting to me. Anyways, those guys are the ones with the polished channels and getting 500K subscribers. So keep doing what you're doing man, be the iconoclast and be yourself, we love you for it.
P90s growling, Uncle Larry shooting the breeze and the connection seeing a fellow father being proud of his kid's achievements. Does it get better? Not on youtube it doesn't, rock on brother 🤟
Uncle Larry, don’t let the haters get to you. Their lives are MUCH worse and they’d love nothing more than to get you riled up! Glad your son is doing well playing! He wants to be like Dad!
Hey, Tom, I play in an orchestra for a living and I’m learning from you. And Derek (Vice Grip Garage) moved to Tennessee so there might be a collaboration video in that carburetor.
The reason Uncle Larry has "only" 64k subscribers is that this channel inspires you to THINK about your playing. There's a million guys with millions of subscribers shredding their asses off with all this intricate analysis and technique; and Uncle Larry plops down, takes a swig of his beverage and matter-of-factly shares some Zen-like nuggets of soulful goodness. Most people just don't have the patience to really pick up on it. I've been watching all along and it has truly taken my playing up a level in terms of approach and attention to detail. Thank you so much Tom for doing it the right way.
As for followers, it's not quantity, it's quality. Your followers are true guitar lovers, most of us have been doing it all our lives, but few of us possess the wealth of knowledge you do. I love to listen to you play, both for the beauty of your playing and the little surprised along the way. More than that, l enjoy the stories, and the straight forward way you talk to us. Of anyone on UA-cam, I think I would most like to sit and have a beer and a conversation with you. You're just real. The best reason for having internet.
Hey there Mr B - you definitely have a style that is slowly becoming identifiable. I have seen every one of your Skool lessons and other sessions and I can start to hear subtle touches that are your trademark. Loved the Trip album, its got a great variety and is so relaxing to listen to. Keep up the great vids and look after yourself, not too many of those beers when watching the football! Best wishes from the UK, real home of classic rock!!
Life's too short to pay much attention to those with negative vibes. If they don't like what you are offering (for free!) they can search YT and find someone more to their liking. Sometimes you are way over my head, but it pushes me to get better and understand. Thank you for keeping Homeschoolin' going!
Love this channel Larry. Never miss an episode. I’m an amateur sofa guitarist-could you talk about some ways to improve right hand picking technique/accuracy? Arpeggiating chords, etc? For instance-I really struggle with a basic guitar part like Skynryd’s Simple Man for example…
Het Tom, Thanks for the tip on Vice grip Garage. Just watched a video for an hour. This guy is an incredible mechanic. I love your feed and reflections on music and the music biz. Keep on keepin on.
I’ve been watching since the corona lesson days, I just realized you’re probably the only person on UA-cam who’s not putting 4 different ads on your videos, and for that I thank you sir
This episode of Homeskoolin has got to be among the best! It’s got it all…in the pickin’, in the grinnin…in the VCB. It’s filled with heart…of the cantankerous kind Great episode!

64,000 subscribers is a great accomplishment Tom. Many of us come here to see just how accomplished one of the very best pickers on the planet is, and we aspire to that measurement. Along with you being extremely unpretentious, unvarnished, and cool; it's a winning combination. Thank you for taking the time to put these together and congratulations on the channel's success. Dude 64K subs is nothing to sneeze at. And you can be damn sure we are all huge fans of you and what you do. The critics can eat shit. I've been down on my own playing lately but watching you has invigorated my drive to better myself as a musician. Thanks for the inspiration! Love you Uncle Larry!
Been a living room guitar hero for like 25 years and these videos helped move me off the 20 year plateau I’ve been on. I think about chords and melodies differently for sure. There’s definitely a before and after Uncle Larry for many of us. 🙏🏻
I have to say, I really appreciate that you make your videos with more advanced players in mind. There are plenty of other channels for the other stuff. Your stuff feels more like a hangout.
Salut Tom ! glad thumb healing, would love to be a fly on the wall at rehearsals the sessions to soak it all up and Homeskoolin has been just right from day one if people don't get it, as it is, that's their bad, appreciate the skoolin! and our 'Uncle Larry''s tangents on life
Wait...64 thousand!! That is a lot of subscribers. Just joined and I already love it!! I love learning...after 40 years!! Can't wait to see more. Thanks for the cool vibe and insightful guitar techniques. 👍
64K viewers sounds like a lot to me. Uncle Larry is a unique individual who pours his heart out in these videos in a human, musical way. Sometimes it's not all about metrics. Some people might have trouble connecting with this. For me, an Uncle Larry video makes my day. But I like Lewis Black and Larry David too. So maybe I'm the problem!
I am one of the 64K in your football stadium and happy to be here uncle Larry … Thanks for the time you put in the videos it is greatly appreciated. greetings from Belgium
Hey Tom I’m grateful that you’ve pointed out to me what a lazy ear I have. Like the rest of the herd, I’ve had a steady diet of the 1-4-5 progression, craving cliched resolutions like Pavlov’s dog. It’s embarrassing to watch how nervous my mind gets when the anticipated tension release does not seem to be on the horizon. Thankfully, your music has enabled my fitful mind to relax within that delayed or lack of resolution, because I’ve found your “elements of surprise” to be much more interesting and satisfying than checking a box and getting back to the 1 chord. You’re able to do this regardless of what genre you’re exploring and it always hits me in the heart (or groin) and never feels like an intellectual exercise. Thank you!
Small world Larry! In the 80s Alison Prestwood loaned me her badge for NAMM in ATL! Back in the day you only needed a badge to get in, they didn't check picture IDs.
64K! Pretty damn good by my standard (I'm appropriately stuck at 35). I will say this, based on my casual observation, your audience is the most engaged of all the dudes I watch on this platform. I doubt there are many out there, relying mostly on this platform for promotion (if that is even the right term), that have sold thousands of digital copies and hard copies of their solo, instrumental album. You might be the only one, but what do I know. Most of your audience, best I can tell (that is over 50% (an educated hunch on my part)), watches all your videos and probably watch the whole thing in one sitting. In terms of quality v. quantity, there are probably few on this platform that stack up with that metric. They're even starting to read the video descriptions! That said, you have become my one stop shop for all my musical instructional/edu-tainment needs. My youtube day has (d)evolved into, "did Tom put out a video?" 'Yes' - I stick around, 'no' - I'm probably out. You've largely replaced everyone else for me (and there are some really good dudes out there doing this, you're just better at it by my sensibilities). At my life stage, noone matches your humor, wisdom, and ability. Very, very thankful our very gracious Uncle keeps doing this! He (me in the 3rd person) thanks you.
Tom, I was working at Independent studios in Studio City in the early 70's. I was in a car accident that ruptured every disc in my neck but one and a lot of other structural damage. Playing became almost impossible. and recording was out- a young Larry Carlton and several others of that caliber were all over. This is prior to a bullet severing Mr. Carltons median nerve. You make me forget that stuff. Thanks.
I like that Uncle Larry is showing us more advanced skills. There are some lessons that are beyond my ability to play, but I always get something out them like a chord or a technique. Sometimes the lesson is a way of thinking. At a minimum I think we get to hear some cool playing. It all helps me improve, it all motivates me, and I look forward to every lesson. Thank you again Uncle Larry!
Hey Tom...proud to be one of your only 64,000 subscribers! You're right about enough weirdos out there already haha! Glad to see you and Sylviu are back on speaking terms.
As a player of 40+ years, slaving away in the trenches, I appreciate not being patronized. Your way of explaining and showing things makes perfect sense to me. Been here since the beginning. Haven't missed an episode. You even convinced me to cut my nails on my right hand (what was I thinking? I never used them!). Rock on, Uncle Larry! Rock on!
There is a saying that I've always liked '' It is what it is ''. We love the channel because there is no-nonsense or pretense. Don't change a thing uncle Larry. I'm learning something new every day and also having a good laugh in the process. Much love
Hey Tom... Thanks for your continued contributions to the cause, it is much appreciated . I was hoping you might do us all a favor and consider doing a live stream some time soon. It could be a real gas!
Hey Tom. First of all thank you for your channel. Been following since before the name change to Home Skoolin’. I’ve learned a ton and really appreciate the content. Also I’ve been a fan of Vice Grip Garage for a long time now. Derek was originally from the North Dakota or Minnesota area, but you know he lives in Nashville now? You should do a collaboration show with him and get him to fix your carb! HAHA!
Tom, I'm glad the thumb is better. I have to admit I'm a cowboy chord guy, 80% of what you say is way over my head but I absolutely love what you are doing with Homeskoolin'. Anyone who doesn't like it can fuck off and find another place to vent their frustrations. You have taught me so much, I have a better appreciation of music in general and have listened to artists that I never considered in the past. Sorry if this doesn't make sense but it's late and I'm super tired. Marshall and Leo will appreciate this down the road, I guarantee it, you take care........... sbp
Thanks for the insight of how to dig in on the right notes with voice leading, another level in becoming a better guitar player. Going to work on that right away. Love the way you are, don't change.
Uncle Larry, we love this "third person", plain and simple. We love you because you care about your boys enough to leave them a legacy, cause you are both real and brilliant at the same time. And really, "only" 64,000 viewers! ... Sheesh, i would consider myself lucky if 3 people cared at all about what i might have to share. You just stay the course our dear friend...we are with you.
There are over 40 million channels on youtube and only .91% of them have 50k+ subscribers. Anyone who says Uncle Larry is underachieving is a god damn fool.
I love that you watch Vice Grip Garage! Home Skoolin' and Derek's humor and creativity have pulled me through the passing of my, seemingly irreplaceable bass player and the pandemic.
When the content is better than the quality of production it may take people longer to get on board but when they do, they don’t wanna leave! Your videos feel like real-time nostalgia, really cool! Cheers uncle Larry 🤘
Every single Uncle Larry session is an education and a mood-lifter. I laughed out loud at the "tireless over editing" comment. Thanks again for every second of free deep insight you've provided.
UL, YOU have your own way of communicating... and we, skoolers, love it. btw, you're looking much better... you've recovered nicely and you've got that warm, youthful glow about you again. don't stop. we need you.
I get a lot out of what you say on your vlogs. Musically anyway. I'm not a football guy. That accenting the notes in the melody in the chords is a great insight. Beyond great. I'm starting to get what you've been saying. It's really made me better. Ending hilarious!
Ordered my Trip merch on Jan 18th. Just got notification from Bandwate that its on the way. Adding it to all my Homeschoolin parifanalia and t shirt collection.

Just wanted to post my experience with ordering the Trip the Witch CD from Bandcamp- I ordered a copy middle of last week and it was shipped within 2 days and arrived on Valentines Day. I’m in love with this CD. Tom thank you and Dean for being my Valentine’s. Especially with it being my first divorced Valentines Day. Beautiful music!
Your channel is growing like the Allman Brothers band...word of mouth. I'm seeing people on other videos suggest this channel as a chill place to hang out, and I've done it numerous times. Your youtube "thumbnails" are not geared to pull in tons of people who aren't going to be interested anyway. The right kind of people are here, and more join as they find it. I think it's a huge following for that time. You're doing great...thank you for doing these!
Whats up Larry. I cannot stress enough how important your videos and this channel are to my growth as a player. I watch all your videos because the knowledge that you share here transcends all the typical youtube over-edited guitar bs that's out there. It cuts straight to the good stuff...you doing your thing man. Proud to be part of the Homeskoolin' family.
64k is super honorable. You can be proud of what you’ve built here! Love your content! Keep it coming!
Been a living room guitar hero for like 25 years and these videos helped move me off the 20 year plateau I’ve been on. I think about chords and melodies differently for sure. There’s definitely a before and after Uncle Larry for many of us. 🙏🏻
Do what you want Tom! It's your show and I love it!
I have to say, I really appreciate that you make your videos with more advanced players in mind. There are plenty of other channels for the other stuff. Your stuff feels more like a hangout.
Glad the thumb is better. Glad you got through Covid ok. You’re my guitar hero. Keep on rocking.
Salut Tom ! glad thumb healing, would love to be a fly on the wall at rehearsals the sessions to soak it all up and Homeskoolin has been just right from day one if people don't get it, as it is, that's their bad, appreciate the skoolin! and our 'Uncle Larry''s tangents on life
@bvninja Greetings Legend! Right on, as always.
Hey Tom
I’m grateful that you’ve pointed out to me what a lazy ear I have.
Thanks.
Finished After Life on your recommendation Tom....it was awesome...thank you for the tip!
64k subscribers feckin' RAWKS! Congrats!
The other side of the pillow wishes it was as cool as you! You're amazing bro! Thanks for all you do!
Dude thanks for the heads up on the vicegrip dude from Canada
HILARIOUS
There are over 40 million channels on youtube and only .91% of them have 50k+ subscribers. Anyone who says Uncle Larry is underachieving is a god damn fool.
Your channel is great. You are putting some awesome stories out in the world. Thanks!
@@dusty_dustbin_basementjamh4827 Thank ya kindly, Dusty! : )
I love that you watch Vice Grip Garage! Home Skoolin' and Derek's humor and creativity have pulled me through the passing of my, seemingly irreplaceable bass player and the pandemic.
Alison is a gem! Gave me the best compliment of my career when she told me she could tell from my playing that I liked Mike Campbell
When the content is better than the quality of production it may take people longer to get on board but when they do, they don’t wanna leave! Your videos feel like real-time nostalgia, really cool! Cheers uncle Larry 🤘
Such a nice gift to all of, and to your boys. Thanks for sharing your humanity.
Hey Tom don’t change a thing!! I look for an watch every episode! 🤟🤟🍺
Thanks for doing what you do brother.
What a Privilege, To watch and listen to your stories and insight, in your kitchen.
Your a positive influence.🤜
You be you, 1st person, 2nd person, 3rd or any other person. Love every minute of your videos, Authentic! BTW: Vice Grip Garage has relocated to Tenn, you're neighbors.
Oh my God , Derrick is awesome (vice grip garage) I watch that as enthusiasticy as you , I about fell out my chair when you mentioned that,it warms a fellas heart, 😂
Hi Tom ,been playing for forty years plus done the band thing many times ,and your videos give me nothing but happiness ,love listening to you and thanks for the d chord , it didn't help much but my god it was funny, keep rocking my friend
Thanks Tom, your videos are so we get to hang with other music and guitar lovers when there aren't that many around. I appreciate that.
Touching 64K people enough for them to subscribe is amazing. You're still rocking the guitar playing world. Keep it up Tom.
VGG is great! From Dakotas/Minnesota, but just moved south of Nashville. You may be able to get him to look at your Impala, lol.
You're doing great...thank you for doing these!
appreciate that man...very kind
For all the positivity you sow out here and for just being a kickass dude…thank you so much! Nothing but love for you Tom!!!
Love you Tom always have I hope you know. I’ll be watching if no one else dose.
Signed, The real Uncle Larry, or is it Lorenzo.?
Whats up Larry. I cannot stress enough how important your videos and this channel are to my growth as a player. I watch all your videos because the knowledge that you share here transcends all the typical youtube over-edited guitar bs that's out there. It cuts straight to the good stuff...you doing your thing man. Proud to be part of the Homeskoolin' family. I would love to see you and the Dawgs play live sometime in the near future if you're ever in Chicago!
don't change your approach to your vids. It is fresh and real, and sparks creativity in others. Kudos to you.
