2008 Jaguar XK Battery Change and getting into the car with the keys, not the fob.

- If your Jaguar XK battery dies the remote control won't open the car and you'll have to use the actual key. Getting into the boot, where the battery is, can be quite an exercise, as the keyhole is located behind the registration plate.
After changing the battery I reset the windows according to the owner manual and the passenger side fault vanished.. the issues with the touch screen and power steering also disappeared. I had no idea how 'power sensitive' these cars are and the drop in battery performance had caused these issues.. on the other hand, the car is coming up 11 years old, has 30K mileage and still had the original battery so I can't really complain. Next up is a radiator replacement on my son's Cherokee.
Hi Andy! We have a 2007 XK with 17K miles and a 2011 XFR at around 62K. I just went though a battery change on the XK as well. Here are a few tips: 1. put two small planks on the floor of the boot to act as a ramp to slide out the battery and slide in the new one. 2. No need to remove the spare tire cover if using planks. 3. Next battery change, go for an AGM-style Group 49 battery. No acid and no venting required! 4. Be sure to remove your watch and jewelry if working around batteries! 5. Pick up a CTEK 3300 smart battery tender- you'll get 4x battery life.
You're not enjoying your XK enough with that little mileage! The planks idea is a good one, I only took out the tool tray because I was contemplating climbing in and standing on the spare wheel. As for the CTEK, my son's got one.. but for the Jag, can't really complain at one battery change in ten years..
I had a new X type 2.5 back in 2001 then an S type R which was brilliant and now a G Wagon for daily use.
Excellent how-to-vid that came in very handy for changing out the battery in the wife's 07 XK.
Excellent how-to-vid that came in very handy for finding the battery in in the boot I want to add a drip charger to the battery to keep the battery conditioned when I am not using it. Surprising went flat while I was playing with the CD Player very sudden guess the Battery may be worn out!
Thanks, I’m now prepared for the inevitable
Thanks for posting this, it’s really helpful.
Thanks mate, really helped me out.
5:30 ...lol that's just what I was thinking, what a pain in the ass!
At least the old battery didn't get dumped on the Mini bonnet with everything else
Still got the mini. Just done 58k in an 03 plate. Apart from a new alternator (last week), the mini is still superb.. and at the time of this vid, the bonnet had a couple of stone chips and dings which I had taken out two years or so ago, before respraying it. I have a bunch of vids ready to go on the mini’s upkeep.. I did the jag battery four years or so ago and keep the car on permanent trickle to avoid the annoying electrical anomalies caused by the slightest drop in current.
The jaguars roof lining has finally dropped to the point it needs replacing so that’s a job for next year.
Could you do it again with your camera pointed at what you are seeing?
(A lot of the action is below the picture!)
Seeing how it’s very simple to change the battery, I figured anyone with the intelligence to tie shoe laces should have the capacity to compensate for my poor filming. But just for you, I’ll post another video soon.
How do you remove the driveline from a xk jaguar I'm trying to replace the fuel pump
Thanks for sharing. Shat my pants after closing the boot with a flat battery, this video was a stress relief. Follow up question: Did the electronics behave itself after the swap?
Denis - yes, I followed the reset procedure and all was well. ..and has been since
@@andy-maunder Great, thank you. Hope your back didn't need the reset procedure, battery location is just right to tweak it.
I carefully edited out the grunts and groans.. next issue is the ac duck bill drain that has gummed together, have you had that problem?
@@andy-maunder Now, that's gonna sound weird but for a second I wish I had it. To be forced to learn about it and fix it. Thoroughly enjoy learning how XK is built, I reckon it's as much of a masterpiece as it looks.
Really enjoyed the video 👍👍had to call the AA to get me going. Will need to change mine sooner rather than later. Appreciated the grunts and groans
I like when the steering gets heavier like a BMW or porsche , then it goes back to boat like mode , that’s the only thing I don’t like about my car , I like the F Type drives the best , but xkr is much nicer looking and has more room in the back , my battery dies a lot because I work from home , brand new battery died because it snowed and went down to about 28 degrees here in New Mexico , wish I had a garage or carport , my poor car is getting tortured with the elements
J’espère ne jamais avoir à changer la batterie de mon xk8 !
It's not so hard..
Worse car ever
Sorry, did you mean ‘worst’..
What didn’t you like about yours?
@@andy-maunder No I was somewhere trying to help a friend locate battery just now for a jump but it was in the back seat. We found another youtube video that showed it was back seat because this is a 2009. It's good car but pain in the ass lol. Took forever just to locate battery.
Ya, but that's just you.@@The_Primary_Axiom
