i love this channel. The only builder who walks you through the minutia.
Thanks for the trust.
Onnnnnn the build show!!!!
Yup.
Love this idea. Would make it very easy to soundproof and add fire safety around all the mechanics!
21st century features of the modern American home: mechanical room and network closet. Right around the corner of time will be a home battery. I predict this will be a standard element of all homes in the upcoming decades: a grid connected residential battery that comes with the cost of your home. Probably a neighborhood solar/wind array in which dozens of homes share (who wants to scrap bird poop off a huge burning hot mirror) that supplements the grid and charges the home battery. Next worry will be water but I don't want to think about that yet.
Very true. Too often a mechanical room is an afterthought.
@@HowToBuildYourOwnHome Very good video by the way. You know your stuff and the information is direct. I learned something. Cheers 🍻
Great Information. Much appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
Love it. I'll have something like this for a slab-on-grade house I'm planning.
basements is the best place to have a mechanical room
Thanks. Very useful information.
You're welcome
I live in the southeast (No. Ga). I built mine 27 yrs ago with a basement that houses that stuff. Just had my hvac changed out. Had it done right this time, 3 ton Rheem w/propane furn, the large filter cabinet ( looks similar to what you got there). Had all ducts remediated, sealed completely , moldy fiber board plenums removed and sheet metal replacing those, Santa Fe ultra98 whole house dehumidifier and bi-polar ionizer . Not cheap but talk about healthier air.
Great info
Haha is the UA-camr Matt?
Matt yes.
What are your thoughts on making either the attic or crawlspace (if you have one and it's tall enough) conditioned space and putting all the mechanicals in there? I've followed that "other" builder UA-camr and that seems like a smart use of space.
Anywhere inside conditioned space is ideal, and even better in a central location. Basements are good, I will be installing all HVC inside a basement of a home I start in a few weeks.
Why did you choose not to run the venting for combustion outside on water heater and furnaces?
Combustion is run outside through a single concentric air vent.
I am trying to position my mechanical room in the middle of my house. It would really work well with the layout and and would make for shorter runs. I understand that I need venting to the outside. Is there any reason why I couldn't run the venting to the out side from the middle of the house?
No. Just run it through the attic to the soffit eve, or directly out through the roof. I prefer under the eve.
