I was 16yo in 1974 when GFR came out with this song and I loved it then. Nothing was better than driving around in the car listening to it. Then almost 50 years go by and I'm listening to my local public radio station and they play this version by the Jayhawks. I have to admit, I had never heard of the Jayhawks before, but I knew that I really liked their cover of this song. It made me feel like I did when I was 16 and driving around listening to it for the first time. That's the best compliment I can give to them. I"ll definitely check out more of their music.
I was 13 and pulling hard on my reins. Hurtling headfirst into adolescent adulthood without without a clue. It was an exhilarating yet humbling ride! So glad I lived and loved through those times at that time. Know what I mean?❤
This song got me into the Jayhawks. Radio station where I was working in 97 was throwing out CDs and this was one of them. Lucky me! I've been a fan every since.
Jayhawks fans rejoice, The Jayhawks return to Louisville KY on Oct 14, 2011. What a great band....and this is just one of their fantastic songs here, one of the few covers that is better than the original take of this song...great stuff.
Finally found this...I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was a young kid. The female backing vocals somehow stuck with me. I think they make the song that much better.
dear jayhawks....thank you so much. i met you at a small cafe in minneapolis MN. you got me on your guest list for that show. thank you. love this album. it was 94-95.
I still haven't gotten over seeing these guys in Bristol, UK a few years back; this was going to be the encore BUT THERE WAS A CURFEW and we didn't get to hear them play this one. Still broken.
I actually think the girl is Maria McKee. She worked a lot with Olsen and Louris. They worked with her on her Shelter album. She originally came out with the Lone Justice, kind of a cowboy punk band. She's awesome.
This is a great record..I remember hearing Blue on the radio back then and got the CD and then realized after getting it that the rest of the CD was amazing and fell in love in it as a whole..Still have it
Who KNEW Mark Farner would pull a song like this out of his back pocket for GRAND FUNK RAILROAD?. The Jays do a great version though. Nice choice. Good song!
You betcha! I think Mark was dealing with a divorce or break-up at the time! Sorrow will bring out the artist in most anyone! Love what the Jayhawks do here. Not that familiar with them, but I'm glad they didn't feel the need to "thud" it up with a needless, ponderous tone. Not afraid to keep the pop in the song. I like that in a band! Like how they altered the chorus melody a tad toward the end.
Ever since seeing them perform this live last Friday night (9/21) @ WCL in Philly, I CANNOT get this song out of my head!! (Which is a GOOD thing! ;) )
Hmmm. Chock-full-o-hooks. It took a while to track down the echoes of familiarity, but I think I have it: the verses are extremely reminiscent of Janis Ian's Society's Child, while the chorus is recalling He's So Fine/My Sweet Lord
Yeah if you like Mark Olson, these were the best. I like Gary so Sound of Lies does it for me. My friends who weren't introduced to them before SOL can't stand them with Mark back. We saw them at the State Fair and they would have walked out had Semisonic not been next.
A moderate 70s am hit ? ? ? , it was a #4 hit on the billboard hot 100 ! ,, it was the most played song on FM radio in America in 1975 ! ! ! , do your homework buddy !
47tooter It's a great song, and I can see that you're partial to it. but you can't compare it's status to other songs of the era (Stairway, Sweet Home Alabama, a bunch of ABBA songs, etc for iconic popularity). If you want to keep believing that it ranks with those songs in lasting popularity then simply compare the airplay the original gets with any of the '70's hits that are in constant rotation on rock and pop formatted radio and internet play from that era. I'm not talking about the quality of the song which is wonderful, but just how the song is known (or not known as the case may be). That was my only point and it's indisputable.
I was well aware it was a cover I spent the better part of 1975 listening to GFR's version. I was 10 and it was on the Car Radio almost non stop all that summer. We vacationed in 9 different states that summer so we were sick of it.Catch is This version blows away GFR's version.
Are they even old enough to remember this song LOL two decent version Grand Funk was better of course I'm 53 years old so I'm I'm I'm more into Grand Funk than the newer than the newer bands

Criminally underrated band.
I LOVE GARY!
It is a crime! These guys were great.
@@lawdogwales5921
ARE great!
@@loilt5091 Correct!
How true but they had big comeback in 90's cause Axls cover of Bad Time. They played Jayhawks in all radio 📻stations again
A drummer I played with now plays in the Jayhawks. This will be something I hang my hat on for generations to come. hehe. ;)
Why hasn’t anybody replied yet :0
Great cover of a great song
its actually so much better than the original , who agrees with this drunk old music lover ... ?

Staggering in both purity and proficiency.
Finally found this...I remember hearing this song on the radio when I was a young kid. The female backing vocals somehow stuck with me. I think they make the song that much better.
Same for me, high school im hear this song.
She’s Charlene Spitteri from the band Texas
One of those rare times that I like a cover just as much or maybe even more than the original! Brilliant!
Daughter of dan auerbach?
Karia. Exaclly 👏🏼👏🏼
dear jayhawks....thank you so much. i met you at a small cafe in minneapolis MN. you got me on your guest list for that show. thank you. love this album. it was 94-95.

the female vocal sweetness in this makes it..perfect
My wish was they put her voice more in their songs. Most of the times I strive just to hear her background singing.
She is Sharleen Spiteri’s voice, the girl from Texas band ❤️

Duquedealba - Thank you for answering a question I've been asking myself for years 😄 Mike Caldwell - Thank you for bringing it up 😉
I actually think the girl is Maria McKee. She worked a lot with Olsen and Louris. They worked with her on her Shelter album. She originally came out with the Lone Justice, kind of a cowboy punk band. She's awesome.
Great version. Oh yeah!!🎶🎶
This is one cool cover. I love how the keyboards sneak in at the song's beginning.
2020 is the best time to be in love! happy anniversary honey
Best Jayhawks album EVER!
Good cover of a great tune.
They helped make the 90's the last great decade of singer/songwriter music.
This is a great record..I remember hearing Blue on the radio back then and got the CD and then realized after getting it that the rest of the CD was amazing and fell in love in it as a whole..Still have it
This song came to me out of the blue. I was doing some stuff in the house and started singing this song, it's a friggin awesome song
that's what happened to me this morning, and that's why I'm here!
Same thing to me....wow
who would have thought mark farner had such classic pop song in him.love the harmonies that the jayhawks bring to it.
good cover and great song *****
This song has been in my head, love!!!!
Best version around !!
Who KNEW Mark Farner would pull a song like this out of his back pocket for GRAND FUNK RAILROAD?. The Jays do a great version though. Nice choice.
Good song!

Sharleen Spiteri on background vocals, from Scotland.
Yes, from the superb band Texas.
Thanks for recognizing her here, I always notice a good contrasting background singer.
Hell, shouldn't it say "Sharleen and the Jayhawks" then ? ;-) She's a legend!
She has a sweet voice.
MARAVILLOSOS
I didn't know this version existed until I heard it on the radio this morning. I remember the original quite well.
I got to know the original through this version, different generations, I guess, though I'm not exactly young at 43 now...
great cover.....great band!!
Great pop song!!! Hard to beat the original But........ Very, very good version!
The Dillards+Grand Funk Railroad= This stellar track by The Jayhawks
One of my favorite albums
This album couldn't be any better.
Country-rock at its apex. Sounds straight from 1971. Akin to the Dillards playing Grand Funk Railroad.
The best song ever!!!
Super Super Song!!
thinking of this with the 6' apart suggestion during this covi situation...
IMPRESIONANTE
Unbelievably talented band...harmonies off the charts
Very good 👍
How I miss this band. Am I nuts or does this sound like a Big Star song? Sweetly sad...
@Moritz Junker I thank you for that tidbit. I always assumed that Wilco and Sun Volt meant the death of the Jayhawks. Cheers!
So did I! I just frikkin love these guys- always have always will.
Bad time, but great song and great band
Exquisite
Great Song!
Never heard this song before, but I love it! It's feels like a simple, but addictive tune. Also love Sharleen's voice as backing vocal.
ACE MAN GET IT ON!!!
A countrified version as good as the original.
Great cover version
best ever.. when they visited helsinki nobody knew, except us fans who came to see a great show at tavastia club helsinki.. =)
I ❤️ this song so much :::clutches to chest:::
thanks to the Ace Man. I almost forgot about this version.
This song calms my nerves for some reason
Anyone know backup singer on bad time cover from Grand Funk?
I love Grand Funk, too, but consider this better than the original
Of Course Grand Funk Railroad was good but the Jayhawks are amazing.
Peazo canción!
After thought, is hind sight; but better to have tried love; than not!!!
Falls just short of the original for me.Still a Jayhawks fan.JMO
I think it soars above the original, but that's me. And I do like the original, too.
He sings "Bed time being in love" !
Listen to the jayhawks is a good time...
Ever since seeing them perform this live last Friday night (9/21) @ WCL in Philly, I CANNOT get this song out of my head!! (Which is a GOOD thing! ;) )
that's what made me look it up also
Nothing beats the original but this is a great cover.
I've always favored it to Hollywood Town Hall (1992).
Hmmm. Chock-full-o-hooks. It took a while to track down the echoes
of familiarity, but I think I have it: the verses are extremely reminiscent
of Janis Ian's Society's Child, while the chorus is recalling He's So Fine/My Sweet Lord
Cause the last upload of it was sadly taken down. Took me a year to find it again.
ดวงใจฉันรักเธอ
This has some Neil Young feel to it. Pretty cool.
Big Byrds and Don Mclean vibes here
Grand Funk's version blows this away!
love Hollywood town hall but tomorrow is great album
Yeah if you like Mark Olson, these were the best. I like Gary so Sound of Lies does it for me. My friends who weren't introduced to them before SOL can't stand them with Mark back. We saw them at the State Fair and they would have walked out had Semisonic not been next.
ดวงใจยังมีรัก
The words are " but it feels like Im wearing it out " Why does every cover get it wrong ?
Grand Funk Railroad tune.
when the cover of the song is actually better than the original
Grand Funk Railroad cover
VERSION THAT GOOD GRANK FUNK
If you want to know the history of Texas in 1995, so listen and watch this.
This song is actually by Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad but this version is better
No it’s not
@JCStorm76 think as you wish, I know better.
Gary if You ever read this I'm your man for Lead. I'm a sober 12 stepper God Fearing home boy.
Is this even better than the original Grand Funk version?
Folks, this is cover, not an original JH tune. A moderate 70's AM hit that they did a fine job with. Stop talking like they composed it.
A moderate 70s am hit ? ? ? , it was a #4 hit on the billboard hot 100 ! ,, it was the most played song on FM radio in America in 1975 ! ! ! , do your homework buddy !
And then faded into obscurity. It had a great moment, but has never reached the status of an iconic pop tune.
TheFizz40 not really , Axle Rose sings it to start his concerts and it is oozes Osborne favorite song too !

Much better than original... nice guitar riff and girl's vocal which is included
best redo of a song ever..
Aaaaaand how does this have such few views?
* * * * *
A much better approach to the song than Grand Funk Railroad's original.
Xfm
+smalla ss the ricky gervais show is what.
+smalla ss yeh sorry they played it on one of the shows..i also listen to the. around and around.
Band or an artist: "These birds where caught breaking the law by crossing the road." T. J.
With the added womans voice; it is better than the original.
Undertale fans, I know why you're here.
Don't give me bullshit about "sAnS uNdErTaLe".
the first 3 lines were good, didnt like the fast tempo after that point
Are they even old enough to remember this song LOL two decent version Grand Funk was better of course I'm 53 years old so I'm I'm I'm more into Grand Funk than the newer than the newer bands
