In my day you had to go upstairs via the external stairs into a converted flat which was the station accommodation though you could use the pole drop to come down. The pole drop was where the teleprinter console is shown. The yard was not condidered large at all and we often did drills off station. It was my first posting from the training school in 1971 and probably the homeliest station I ever worked.
