  • There is no such thing as closure. In fact, Pauline Boss says, the idea of closure leads us astray. It’s a myth we need to put aside, like the idea we’ve accepted that grief has five linear stages and we come out the other side done with it. She coined the term “ambiguous loss,” creating a new field in family therapy and psychology. She has wisdom for the complicated griefs and losses in all of our lives and for how we best approach the losses of others. (Original Air Date: June 23, 2016)

Many thanks to Pauline Boss for her work. Ambiguous loss needs to be discussed and researched a lot more than it is.

When you choose immigration, homesickness is much less. I chose it and had almost no homesickness. Thus, it is individual - and depends on the age you emmigrated - I was 20 and looking forward to the new life.

Amazing and a perfect source for my ambiguous loss paper. I wish I can talk to Dr. Boss about the pain the United States family court system and child services is causing Americans. I lost my daughter because I walked away from the religious hassdic community and they took and ripped my child who I had raised on my own for ten years. What do you say about parental alienation?

Parental alienation? I know about parental alienation the kind where grown children alienate hence wound and hurt parents with no explanations .. your just not good enough hence I will discard you completely. Having been abused for many years prior ....to the actual severance ..there where many threats of I will disown u if you don’t ..hurt me on many occasions..what kind of monster did I raise ?

Why is there so little heard of it ..are parents Ashamed of kids that are just Thrown them out, that is my case. I certainly did a lot for the monster that in such a cruel way disowned me. To have kids lie about their parents is truly painful and the loss is extremely ambiguous..I must cling to God because he really knows my pain no one else does. Was your loss mended? Not knowing if kids will come to their senses before I die leaves us always wondering and deeply yearning ..the book only says you must go on make the best of it

What does it mean to me ? You are off your rocker ..your book was a waste of money to me ..the only bottom line is get over it and on with your life ..here but not here but you really didn’t say anything different except go on and go on ...I expected something better from someone who claims to have studied it ..you just went around in circles

I think that was the point. There is no resolution. Learn to become ok with that.
