Unfortunately I'm not able to attend RIAT 2018 due to work commitments which is such a shame given the significance of this year's celebrations but thanks to your videos I can at least get a sense of what is always the best military airshow in the world..! Thanks Nigel - keep 'em coming..!
It gets them noticed, Paul. They're inadequate people without power or influence, so taking a poo on somebody else's hard work makes them feel special. Ignore them. In a few short decades they'll all be dead. Yay! :-)
Not much actually. The radar dish actually creates a significant amount of lift. I read some where that a Navy E-2 Hawkeye had better lift characteristic with the radome than without it. Look up a photo of the E-1 Tracer. That radome created a crap load of lift.
Cheers for commenting Henry! The early morning vortices were great especially as the aircraft came out of the mist with spectators having little idea what was arriving.
The Swiss AF pilatus team woke up Bognor Regis when they flew at low level right along our seafront in formation! Great sight to see and a real surprise. Certainly woke up a lot of the old farts who were bimbling along the promenade! LOL
Very good job!, well chosen, diversified, clear and synthesized scenes. Not being there one can make a good idea of what is going on. Congratulations. Can you tell which equipment you've used for this video?
Brilliant, really enjoyed that. I do miss the old days when america actually made an effort with the B1Lancer and B52's. Can't even be arsed to bring a F22.
Nigel Woolley = I used to volunteer at every opportunity for airshows in the 80's. Those were the days that the whole day was slotted for flying. Non stop action from 9 to 6.......awesome days. And the jets back then are now faded memories. Loved my time in the RAF :)
Hercules from Pakistan, a unique combination of beauty and grandure, congrats on winning 2nd position in this amazing airshow. Long live Pakistan, long. Live Pak army.
Pakistani Hercs have a recent history of presenting fantastic one off colour schemes over last few years so great to see them attending and with great paint jobs.
Great video!! Why on two of the Royal Air Force planes can you see different countries flags? An A400 arrives with the RAF 100 logo on the fin but you can see a Spanish flag on the fuselage. Another prop engine aircraft arrives with a French flag on it with RAF colors. Can anyone tell me what I’m missing?
I believe the A400M is owned by Airbus itself and registered in Spain (where they have assembly and training facilities etc) but applying the RAF sticker to help celebrate the 100 year anniversary. I'm not sure which prop aircraft you mean with a French flag but guess the same celebration support. Happy to be corrected or clarified by anyone out there.
Nigel Woolley ye I had a feeling other Air forces might fly the RAF 100 logo to celebrate the occasion so that makes sense. But the other plane I was taking about is an old, twin engine prop aircraft at 5:30. Is that a French flag on the tail? Many thanks for reply.
Nigel Woolley Yes the A400 is from the Seville factory and is due to become an RAF delivery soon if I recall the commentary correctly, hence still having the civilian registration and Spain flag
Nice video, I didn't realize there was still a Whirlwind flying....A great airshow, but open to comments thst you see a lot of the same aircraft. This used to be the case at Mildenhall, where the flying display included lots of F-16s. More of a variety at Fairford, although if you go every year, you may get a feeling of "Deja Vu" ?
Inside, in a designated park and view area for the airshow only. People used to watch outside the fence too but this year the outside area has been fenced off.
Haha....not sure but some sensible people somewhere maintaining aircraft of the past. Great to see and hear the Percival, especially flying as you say.
Did you get all this from the eastern park & view area? Obvs depends on which way the wind is coming from to get the best view of the landings. Gonna be there on Thurs, hopefully to see plenty of arrivals. Great vid btw.. presume you will be doing the same this year ?
Thx for the confirmation... tried to find out what was arriving when, but no info out there. Perhaps see ya there, I'll be the one with an anorak...!!!!
Perhaps in the description text you could add the types of helicopters and some of the legacy planes that aren't instantly identifiable to a casual observer at some later date when time pressures allow. I was also wondering if some of the livery on the two (?) three F-16s meant they were from separate countries or not. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time.
Similar to the previous year's approach but much lower as you say. Next airshow I'll be checking my exit strategies if the approach appears lower again.
Correct and not sure why I missed it. Maybe I had poor shaky footage of it or they took off directly behind each other causing me to miss the second one. Cheers
@@NigelWoolleyaviation I hear you. The Osprey is also a fixed wing aircraft, so I don't think it would be considered rotary. It sure acts like one though.
I agree Alex. The first C-17 and KC-10 just appeared out of the gloom which was really good but the artistic trails left by the KC-10 was a great moment.
I'm thinkin those F35 drivers can't see shit when landing due to speed and nose high attitude! Reminescent of that famous French interceptor. Gotta love high humidity and those smoke rings are insane! You can see the converging airstreams but I have never seen rings that small.
So maybe the start of the cycle where aircraft look outdated for a long time then before they retire they become sought after and more beautiful? Cheers for watching.
Sad but true Mark. Times have obviously changed so at least we have good memories from earlier shows plus there are still airshows happening, albeit in a reduced format. Cheers.

Steve Trowell It's unfortunate Steve there's something called work! Hopefully you can attend next year and thanks for your comments.
Really good to see the older types flying in, they looked as if they came direct from factory....immaculate.
That Canadian C-17 crew member waving the Canadian flag on a hockey stick was pretty funny 😉
Yes, the hockey stick was perfect :D
Mystic_ 112: Absolutely spot on!
Awesome footage. Thank you for sharing. Why on Earth would 36 people dislike this?
There will Always people that do not like the showing of military stuff...
It gets them noticed, Paul. They're inadequate people without power or influence, so taking a poo on somebody else's hard work makes them feel special. Ignore them. In a few short decades they'll all be dead. Yay! :-)
13:40 I wonder how much that radar disc effects the aerodynamics of the plane.
Not much actually. The radar dish actually creates a significant amount of lift. I read some where that a Navy E-2 Hawkeye had better lift characteristic with the radome than without it. Look up a photo of the E-1 Tracer. That radome created a crap load of lift.
This is one place I'd rather be than any where else to get a closer look on all super Power military aircraft from all nations
Super panning and great clarity. Interesting vortices coming off the planes in the damp air. Many thanks for posting - almost as good as being there!
Cheers for commenting Henry! The early morning vortices were great especially as the aircraft came out of the mist with spectators having little idea what was arriving.
Nicely done, I too wish that I could have come out there this year. But, I'll be watching the live feed. Cheers and enjoy the show!
Excellent footage .good to see all those aircraft up close.
Superb video. Not being able to attend these days this was a real treat. Thank you so much.
Belated thanks for your comments David and cheers for watching.
Like the mist off of the KC -10 upon landing . Excellent video.
Yes Earl that was fantastic from the KC-10 especially as we were waiting in the gloom and mist.
The best video mix so far of the RIAT arrivals. Different angles ... great one ✌👌👍
when the 2nd plane lands, the mist accros the wing look very strange and nice
Great video, I was based at Fairford in the late 60's and lived with the Concord for a couple of years great times
Great memories for you.
Great work again .. now I know what I'm going to see Saturday.. thank you so much
Sooooo looking forward to tomorrow!
Loved going to Abingdon airshows back in the day couldn't beat those cold war aircraft . Vulcan , lighting, phantom etc .miss those planes
wow......sounds like aviation heaven and at least you have great memories of those experiences.
To me the Hawker Hunter is still beautiful. Thank you for your video.
Totally agree. Looks great on the ground and in the air.
Can't be more Canadian than the national flag on a hockey stick
hockey stick of maple wood XD
16:57. last time I seen one of them it was on display at the gate to RAF Akrotiri.
Peter Gorrie and it looks like a smiling happy yellow chopper
Awesome compilation. And that clarity. Subscribed 😁
Excellent work Nigel ........
Thanks for watching Peter.
goodwood, RIAT, farnborough july seems to be a good month to be in the uk
Definitely. Add in Yeovilton, Duxford, Shuttleworth to name a few more it's a veryt good month.
Nigel Woolley Or it would be if they weren't all on the same day!
sadly true
Wow!, what a variety of aircraft. Thanks so much for sharing.
Yes a big range for sure and they kept coming in!
The Swiss AF pilatus team woke up Bognor Regis when they flew at low level right along our seafront in formation! Great sight to see and a real surprise. Certainly woke up a lot of the old farts who were bimbling along the promenade! LOL
Nice little hat trick of vids, mate! Really enjoyed watching them!
Thanks John for watching all three! Cheers.
Nigel: Thanks for wonderful aircraft videos. You have excellent camera and editing skills. I'm a aircraft 'nut' and enjoy to the max your efforts!
Thanks Darryl. Happy to share with other nuts when I can!
Thank you for NO CRAPPY MUSIC, The jets are far prettier. (Sound of the real aircraft)

You just got a new subscriber. Thank you for sharing that. It was bloody awesome. I hope to be there next year.
Thanks Matt for watching and subscribing. Fingers crossed you can get there next year!
A show before the show. Great job!
Thanks Jeffrey. Certainly a highlight before the show with so much military traffic arriving.
Great video. Not going this year though, it’s getting to be an expensive day out.
Went in 95 great then but would be unreal today .We were on holiday from Aus.
1995 would have been awesome. Still you had better not catch the bug of returning each year from Aus to watch!
Nice video Nigel, great work.
Thanks Jay!
12:34 I dont remember seeing the Gnat on the ground. Aka the Oscar EW-5894 Fallus Tactical Fighter Bomber
Ha!
The FA/18 Super Hornet is noticeably absent from the various RIAT videos I've seen.
What helicopter is that with the RAF markings at 11:10 ?
Bristol 171 Sycamore. Now a part of the Red Bull collection.
@@NigelWoolleyaviation thank you! Loved the footage!
Can't freaking wait for Sunday!
Very soon ish!!
Only a 29 can land with such panache .The Hunter is just superb

Can you tell which equipment you've used for this video?
Hi Enrique. Just a hand held Sony AX53 vid camera.
Brilliant, really enjoyed that. I do miss the old days when america actually made an effort with the B1Lancer and B52's. Can't even be arsed to bring a F22.
Sorry, we've been fighting wars with them for the past two decades.
Superb, subscribed. I remember my days in the RAF back in the 80's attending RAF Fairford.........wild :)

I believe that the name 'Pakistan' is one of the world's best-established but least-recognised acronyms. :-)
Amazing!!! I wish I was there!!
What a movimented work there
Great job! Absolutely beautiful video! What kind of plane was the one at 12:31 - 12:55?
Cheers for watching. The aircraft was a Folland Gnat.

Roll on Saturday !
Please can you tell me if you are inside the airbase or just outside the fence for the arrivals?
Inside, in a designated park and view area for the airshow only. People used to watch outside the fence too but this year the outside area has been fenced off.
Nigel Woolley thanks for replying, how much do they charge?
10 pounds from memory. It's been a big week!
What Base is this held at? It will take me a full week just to see them all on the ramp
RAF Fairford, I went last year. The place is huge and you need more than a day to see everything.
Fairford.............20 miles from my house.great views of aircraft coming in
Too right, first visit on Friday and as you say, HUGE! Really need 2 days to appreciate it all.
What is that at 8:57?
A Hawker Hunter.
RAF Percival Prince and airworthy - where the hell did they find that ?
Haha....not sure but some sensible people somewhere maintaining aircraft of the past. Great to see and hear the Percival, especially flying as you say.

Thx for the confirmation... tried to find out what was arriving when, but no info out there. Perhaps see ya there, I'll be the one with an anorak...!!!!
@@Ding4Dong There will be a typed arrivals list available to purchase (one pound) at the P&V area. Hopefully you don't need your anorak!
I was there on the Sunday!!
Nice video
11:07 that is one Interesting Heli.
Bristol 171 Sycamore from the private Aircraft Fleet Flying Bulls
the only flying Sycamore world wide
Would've been nice if there was some graphics to identify some of the more unusual (not obvious) birds and their livery. Nice coverage though. Thanks.
understand that although rather busy just editing and uploading stuff. Happy to answers requests re aircraft types if needed.

Fantastic video.
Cheers for watching and commenting
The 4 engined airplane with that big round thing on the roof. I saw it at preveza aktion airport
You were luck to see an E-3 Sentry.
May be showing my age here but anyone remember when RIAT was on TV every year?
Bill Hughes no but I remember Farnborough being on TV
andoni123 thats right. Remember the comms were great as well
Ooh, the tree huggers would have a fit if "Cuntryphile" was replaced by RIAT once every year
Hey, Nigel, great video, man! Now, I've one question: What Air Force is the "Dark Falcon" from?
John Osbourn Belgian Air Force.
Was wondering, did the Sukoi jets deploy parachutes on landing?
They did on their display and pretty sure they did on arrival too.
11:12 A helicopter straight out of a cartoon.
Was that a Canadian Snowbird?!
Mad contrails at 0.37
Artistic craziness :-)
Fantastic videos with superb clarity. Were you allowed on the airfield to shoot your videos, or were you hiding in the bushes outside the fence ?
Yes you are allowed to view in a designated area (Park and View East and P&V West areas available) at a small cost. Great day if you can make it!
Great video! What equipment do you use?
Hi Ian. Sony AX53 video camera.
5:58 Solotürk ❤️🇹🇷

Are you there all weekend nigel and are you covering departures too ?.
certainly hope to be there all weekend and departures....only drawback is poor wifi to share footage but will happen in time :-)
Nice video, sir
Thank you!
10:24, nice to see the Australians have joined as well!

what is this event and where is it?
You focused on the wrong Tucano :( The one painted in WWI paint scheme was much more interesting.

The Chinnock helicopter is the fastest helicopter right?
The cChinook is fast for its era but if the Osprey is categorised as a helicopter then that is much quicker.
