- Hello everyone~! Today's video is a washing and caring for your Lolita clothes video. Despite making UA-cam videos for a while I never felt the need to make this video until I received the JSK featured in this video. So I hope this will remind people to wash their clothes XD
How often You Should be Washing your Clothes (based on personal preference)
Please note that these guidelines will changed based on how often I wear the item
Blouses: After every wear
JSK/Main Pieces: Every 2-3 wears
Headdresses/Headbows/Wristcuffs/Accessories: Every 20 wears sometimes even less than that whoops
Cardigans: After 2-3 wears
Jackets/Coats: After a season
Socks: After every wear
You should be cleaning/wiping your shoes after every wear as well!

The thought of receiving a dress so dirty that’s it’s *stiff* is really upsetting! You did a great job restoring it as best you could. It’s such a pretty piece for spring!
It is the perfect piece for Spring and I was very happy to show off this piece to my friends on how well I did on cleaning it :D Thanks for watching~!
I love washing videos. It’s so satisfying seeing you restore that piece. I agree its a bit sad to see the state some of them have gotten to and you really brought it back to life❤
It's so satisfying when you're able to restore a piece back to it's original glory. :D Thank you for watching~!
The struggle is real! I spilled yogurt on a meta jsk and even though I did a test on a waist tie for bleeding, it was a disaster with the red dye bleeding all over with the delicate cycle, cold water and a very short wash and rinse. Since then, I wash it in a garment mesh bag with about 4 color catchers on cold to prevent it from getting worse but it was an epic fail. Thankfully, the print is so busy that no one will notice unless they look at it up close and I have stopped it from getting worse but [sighs] that was a bummer since it was a piece I got in pristine condition from 2011.
After that disaster, I took my BTSSB Bon-Bon Chocolate blah blah blah to the dry cleaner since I'd seen that the magenta in other second hand versions bled. But! I still made a mistake not unlacing the back corset ribbon which got torn on the back. Thankfully, I was able to relace it through the nearest loop, so again not noticeable but it would need a new row of lace to be put in at some point or hand stitch it back to cover the few torn lace loops. Interestingly, my lighter colored BTSSB skirt (also in cotton, also with red) wash totally fine with no bleeding.
I don't want to end this on a downer so I can at least comment that I had a great success with an AP blouse I got secondhand. It was a 100% cotton piece and sold with armpit stains. I underestimated the level of the pit stains - as someone who has biology that result in them, I learned a long time ago to always spray my pits when I take a light colored shirt off. I ended up doing several day long soaks in a mix of oxy clean + dish detergent before I could lift the stains. However, I was able to lift the stain completely and always make sure to spray the pits/neck line when I take it off since I know I'm a sweaty person.
I'm not the biggest fan of polyester, but I will say all my skirts/dresses with that fabric are much easier to wash! Turn inside out, put in mesh garment bag, wash on dedicate in cold and lay flat to dry.
Thank you for sharing your experiences in washing your pieces!
Print bleeding is such a huge problem! I still have bleeding for a certain piece from Baby too that was a magenta bleed that I haven't been able to even lift ;A; One day, I'll try to attempt to lift again but until then I still wear the dress proudly because it's not that noticeable on the dress XD
I appreciate your comment! Thank you for watching~!
Wow, I just cannot fathom people who are so afraid/unwilling to wash their lolita pieces that they're willing to wear filthy clothes. My skin cringes at the thought of putting something like that on. 🤢 I'm so glad you were able to restore it!
Right? I can't fathom it either but I'm glad that I was able to restore the piece to the point where it can be enjoyed once again :D Thanks for watching~!
For the waist ties, or any remaining faded coffee / tea stains that aren't coming out on your dress, try a boiling oxyclean paste. I swear by this method. I will use it as a last resort for stain removal of gentler approaches aren't working, as it does stiffen up the fabric a good deal. But I've removed some NASTY dark stains on dresses this way.
1. Boil some water.
2. Put some oxyclean or similar product in a small bowl.
3. Pour on a bit of the boiing water to make a paste. It should be a tiny bit runny, but not entirely liquid, you want spreadable.
4. Using a spoon, butterknife, or some other item, put the paste over the stain while it's still very very hot.
5. Let it set until it hardens. Then remove with some warm water.
6. Repeat the process until the stain is gone.
Other things to have in your arsenal: baking soda (good for odor removal). Mixing it with peroxide and salt is really good for sweat stain removal. (Neck ties, blouse collars, armpits etc). It's a really good idea to wear a thin undershirt (I like the Uniqlo ones) under my OPs to help deter stains. Regular old dish soap is great for makeup stains too. :)
Thank you for sharing your tips!
Love these tips, thanks for sharing and great job on restoring that dress! I've had good luck with machine washing many dresses and blouses on delicate with cold water inside pillow cases with color catcher sheets. I lay everything out on a mesh basket hanger from Daiso or hang dry if they're light-weight and let a box fan or the ceiling fan circulate air over them, so far no issues. I handwash socks/tights and go to the dry cleaner for wool jackets and a few embellished sweaters and velvet dresses. I'll have to remember to do the oxyclean on my blouses for the future!
Modern washing machines are so easy to use and so convenient now! Thank you for watching and commenting~!
thanks for sharing this! I've recently been receiving and seeing a lot of dirty/damaged pieces which is always heartbreaking, good to have more videos like this out there!
Thank you for watching and commenting~!
It’s such a beautiful dress, shame that it came in such terrible condition, but you did such a great job at restoring it!
Thank you! :)
Wow 5 times.. 😳 I’m amazed at how much the color lightened!!
It was very satisfying to see the water run clear after each wash :D Thanks for watching~!
So glad I found your video as I'm just getting back into Lolita. I was so careless before and would just toss in washer and hope for the best! 🫣 This time around I want to take extra good care of my dresses so thank-you for such a great thoroughly explained video!!
I'm glad that you found the video helpful! Thank you for watching~!
Love the coords, very cute. I would be interested to learn whether starching my blouses would improve the look of them and how to do it, if it's something you're familiar with.
Starching is pretty simple. The key is to be sure that the fabric that you're working with is a woven type specifically cottons/linen. Next, I would starch the shirt in either a starch bath or starch spray. The bath/spray really depends on what you're looking to starch and then after that leave the starch to dry on the clothes. While the item is a little damp you'll simply just iron it and your item should be starched and "stiffer" so to speak :) Hope this helps! Thanks for watching~!
@@DodotheExtinctisBlue Thank you so much!
I have a dress that has a velvet outside (polyester cotton lining) AND water soluble lace. I can’t afford a dry cleaner, what do I do??
I would highly recommend checking out Google to see what sort of velvet that you have and that can determine how and if you can clean. I personally haven’t cleaned velvet myself before so I don’t really have much knowledge but I know for stage cleaning velvet you can use a light spray of a few drops of dish soap and water solution to spot clean and to steam the garment for “cleaning” so to speak. Thanks for watching~!
This video was really helpful! I mostly wash my dresses with a washing machine but I prefer to hand wash a few of my older pieces and I’m not always confident that I’m doing it right haha. Right now I’m working on a similar project with a Twinkle Journey OP I bought which came covered in large stains. I’ve been able to make some progress but there’s still work to be done haha.
I wish you the best of luck on your Twinkle Journey OP! Large stains can be a pain in the butt to clean out but I'm sure you'll do a great job! Thank you for watching~!
it’s so weird how people don’t wash their clothes before selling them second-hand, I really thought it was just an expected courtesy thing… I guess at least the seller warned you beforehand and lowered the price accordingly but still 😂
It’s really weird that people don’t wash their clothes but I’m thankful to be able to get clothes cheaper if it means a little elbow grease to clean it up (I always hope that the damages aren’t bad enough that it’ll ruin the piece but you never know) Thanks for watching~!
This video was so helpful!
Also I love videos where people find dirty secondhand stuff online and then restore it. It's so satisfying to watch (*´▽`*)
Cleaning up dirty secondhand goods is very satisfying :D Thanks for watching~!
I can't believe you had to wash it 5 times!! What a nightmare 😭
It was a nightmare but as I continued to wash it and see how clean it was getting I felt such a big sense of pride :D Thank you for watching~!
Hello, will it work on AP cotton dresses? (Day dream carnival) I forgot this dress in the closet for a long time and when I discovered it, it has yellowed like your video dress, I didn't know what to do. 🥲
This method should work on all cotton pieces. If you're unsure how to proceed, you can always just do a spot treatment (just one spot) to see if the discoloration will lift or if any other colour from the print will lift. :) Good luck with the cleaning!
