  • Birth of Baba Sri Chand Ji
In the eve of the Kali Yuga(Dark Age), Baba Sri Chand Ji was born in the year 1494 to Mata Sulakhani Ji and Guru Nanak Dev Ji(First Sikh Guru) in the village of Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab, India. The tradition holds that Mata Sulakhani Ji had a vision of Lord Shiva prior to giving birth to her son. The child was born with natural matted hair, natural earrings, and a thin layer of vibhuti(sacred ash) smeared on his body. The room in which the birth took place was filled with an effulgent light and a sacred fragrance which captivated all of those present. Baba Sri Chand Ji radiated a powerful spiritual aura from his birth and was named Sri Chand(Moon). Relatives of Guru Nanak Dev Ji arrived in short order and were captivated by the child, the poor were fed and gifts were distributed to the people of the village.
Baba Ji is held as an avatar of Lord Shiva in this Kali-Yuga(Dark-Age). He is named after the moon which adorns the crown of Lord Shiva and gives light in the dark night of this Kali-Yuga. During his long life of 149 years, Baba Sri Chand Ji retained a youthful form and was a light to many suffering beings. Baba was the bestower of boons, spiritual and material power. He is the embodiment of the Avadhoota principle, which is the complete embodiment of Brahman(Supreme) in the human form. Baba Ji is not limited to any convention or ideology, he is completely free yet in this world. Baba Sri Chand was a light to many during his appearance on this Earth and not much has been shared about him in the western world. He is an important figure during these times of immense change as he is indeed the embodiment of the Great Guru who is held as the originator of all spiritual traditions by those within the primeval tradition of Yoga.
