My father hated the rock music, always knocking on my bedroom door to turn that down. But when I got Days of Future Passed - with the LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, he borrowed it and played it on the family stereo reading the liner notes and kept it for a while reading the Sunday paper for many weeks. RIP, Dad.
I’m 62 years old and was lucky enough to have seen them live back in the day. This song is the best enjoyed on a cloudy, cool rainy afternoon with the big fat blunt, in bed with your girl.
I have the blunt, the bed and the girl. Just waiting on the cool rain.
This album should be listened to from beginning to end. like dark side of the moon. This is believed to be at the very beginning of Prog Rock. It was one of the first concept albums. Listened to in whole is best.
This whole country needs a big dose of the Moody Blues and just chill
Love how tender and chill this song is. Reminds me of a cool Fall day from my childhood
I think it's very hard to describe or get someone to understand how impactful these songs were to young teenage minds in the tumultuous 60s. The messages and the spirituality. And these are songs that must be heard in sequence as they flow together and paint a whole picture. And I really want to hear what Mom and Dad thought.
1967. The Moodys aren’t for everyone, but those that love them really love them. Finally in the Rock HOF. I’ve seen them twice. Great shows.
Origins of prog rock. First concept album and they had an orchestra backing them. This came out in '67 think, same year as Stg. Pepper from The Beatles.
@@johnathanstruble1064 ..NEVER, Brian himself said that Sgt. Peppers is the best ! but all three albums are great !
man, love talking music with ya, but Lennon heard Pet Sounds , after Beatles Rubber Soul, and Lennon made rest of Band listen to Pet Sounds, and said WTF, the Beatles went quit touring, went into Studio 6 months later to start SGT Pepper! All amazing albums, agreed! ✌️✌️♥️
@@johnathanstruble1064 all good, we are here for the music and in my collection Beach Boys, Beatles and Moody Blues have their special place. Rock on😊🎸
I was 11 when this came out. When I was little rock n roll was all about Little Richard and Elvis, and then The Beatles came to town and changed music forever. I feel so privileged to grow up in a time when I could watch the evolution of rock from its beginnings to the multiple sub-genres that it became. I may be old but I wouldn't change a thing to be young again. Whatta ride it's been!
Days Of future Passed: One of the best classic rock concept records. While Pink Floyd released Piper at the Gates of Dawn, the Beatles came up with Sgt Peppers, the Beach Boys did Pet Sounds, the Moody Blues did this in the same year. 1967 was a revolutionary musical turning point. The album is worth a complete listen. You didn't really hear Nights in White Satin unless you listen to the album version. The orchestral transition comes in at the end of this tune on the album.
The Moody Blues don’t fit a mold and are not for everyone…but they deliver a catchy dose of prog rock…yes in the 60’s! Each song different than the last, often with an orchestra…a rabbit hole in themselves…enjoy, thanks for the memories! Cheers!
Two great choices for song reactions today: Moondance and Tuesday Afternoon. Two unique songs by exemplary artists with their own vibe. These songs represent their era so well. The Moody Blues is the perfect name for everything about this group. Back in the day, we had a brilliant artist for every mood.
There was an extended version on the album. It was actually part of a medley.
The extended version is really good.
One of my favorite Rock groups. This band is cinematic progressive rock. This means that their sounds sound like a soundtrack for a movie. Excellent sound....also good friends of Yes!!!!
The Moodys definitely have their place in the 60s Brit scene. Not strictly pop, definitely not blues oriented. Much more sophisticated compositions. A deep catalog of album oriented music, not about hit singles although they had quite a few of them.
They started as a rhythm and blues band, Denny Laine left and Justin Hayward joined and everything radically changed.
@@martinmorris5997 I remember them doing a Coca Cola commercial before they got it togeher. Thank God they stuck to their vision.
There is more if you want...They left out a couple minutes at the end.....A sonic, orchestral masterpiece....
Justin Hayward was a fearless singer and summoned breath and vibrato to hold long notes and negotiate sharps and flats that less bold vocalists would attempt. It all created and added to the unique atmosphere the Moodys were known for
Always loved this song. Would put headphones on to this when I was a teen...and drift off to sleep! Such imagination..
It's a stunningly beautiful piece of song writing.
In Search of the Lost Chord is still one of my favourite Sunday-morning-with-coffee albums. Such a unique band - they can rock, they can do orchestral, flute, spoken word. These guys were fun to see live, too.
I saw them in 1967 in Seattle, a sold-out show. They played their whole album. We erupted in cheering, screaming for them for a long time. So the lead singer told us after our applause. That no one had ever cheered them or screamed, more, more. Then he told us that they would do the set again, did. LSD ruled that night.
5:48. I recommend if you want more to react to the extended version or “The Afternoon” that’s 8 minutes long. Tuesday Afternoon is the first half. It’s a great trip. But that certainly doesn’t detract from this amazing trip. Great Reaction!
'Question" is a thing of beauty.
MAN! I LOVE this song, and I had completely forgotten about it. Wow! And I think The Moody Blues sounds fantastic vocally, his singing on this is tremendous I think and it fits with it perfectly.
I like a lot of their stuff and I forgot how much I love this one Tuesday afternoon, but another absolute favorite of mine that is a total Banger is, I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band.
Haunting song
SO GLAD you are doing the Moodies. They are OTHERWORLDLY!!! You need to listen to the rest of their albums all at once. The songs just flow into each other.
In 1972 I heard the Moody Blues Tuesday afternoon for the first time I never believed that music could sound so good the Moody Blues got me in two music I'm now 66 and listen to music Everyday
You may not believe this but last Tuesday I listened to Tuesday afternoon😂😂😂
Being a young teenager at night, with just the green and red glow of the stereo receiver, this swelling up out of the darkness was magical. I was transported every time. I felt so lucky to be alive when this kind of music was being made. What was their muse? This was music from rock deities.
By the way, there is more. This is an abridged version.
You can't go wrong with The Moody Blues they have a huge catalog , The Voice & Question ... 2 Amazing songs 🎵
I was in an American Army Base in Germany in 1976 when the juke box came on and I heard this song and loved it. Thanks for bringing back that song back for me. Thank you...
The Moody Blues are one of those bands that, once you 'get them' you really get them. Prog, but not Prog. Rock, with a big Classical influence, and a sound that is unlike anything else out there. They started out as a UK R&B-influenced group, with one international major hit and a lot of middling chart success after that. Two members eventually left, and their replacements took the band in an entirely different direction.
This song is part of a 1967 album, Days Of Future Passed, which incorporates symphony into the music which often adds linking symphonic pieces in between the tracks. It's a perfect album for turning off the lights, putting your headphones on and sparking up a spliff.
The keyboard you're hearing isn't really a keyboard. Pianist/keyboardist Mike Pinder was the first to take a mellotron, which basically recreated odd noises - animal sounds, etc. - and rewired it to reproduce an almost orchestral sound. At times, eerie and spacey, which added to the new direction from the new members.
Many of their albums are meant to be listened to as a whole, much like Pink Floyd is.
They're an amazing act in concert and I've had the joy of seeing them four times, once at an outdoor show with the stars shining down upon us.
My favorite Moody Blues song.
Great reaction guys! The Moody Blues always put out an amazing sound. I was lucky to see them live later in their career (90s or 00s?) and they hadn't lost anything in their music.
Everybody owned this album. You can play it anytime anywhere.
Their song Simple Game is awesome. They have many great songs. ❤ the Moody Blues.
The Moody Blues had good vocals check out Nights in White Satin sometime too
Y’all are killing it! The versatility of this channel is awesome.
You guys are hitting a lot of my all time favorites. Saw these guys live. Outdoors, beautiful summer night with low humidity. Our local orchestra backing them up. They sounded so good live. Probably my favorite concert.
"I don't know what I'm looking for." I had to laugh . A song on their album Every Good Boy Deserves Favour begins with that line.
Ride My Seesaw and I’m Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band are bangers. Love this song though
This song has a vibe that brings you to a place....very nostalgic for me. Love it❤❤❤
The full version is amazing.
The entire album is amazing.
I was a jock on a station called The ZOO in Dallas. Staff members formed a band and redid this song as Tuesday at the Zco. Sounded just like the original. Moody Blues have been a fav forever. ☮️❤️😎
So much greatness in the 60’s, and with less to work with!
You two bring such joy to us. It’s like I’m experiencing all of your picks for the first time again.
Fantastic song. When a song takes you somewhere it was a good song.
He wanted more, didn't know what he was looking for, he's gotta find out whyyyyyYYYYYYYyyyyyy....😂
Now that was nostalgic af. Always loved this song.
Congrats on 30K subs... you should have 100k soon, you guys are top reactors and I watch every vid with you. Thanks Bros.
One of their breakout hits from their prog rock album, DAYS OF FURURE PAST. 🥰
I remember my dad asking teenage me back in the early 70’s- ‘why can’t you buy more of their albums instead of some of that noise you listen to?’ 😂. Luckily- he loved music and I grew up listening to everyone from The Platters to Marty Robbins to Jimmie Rodgers to Herb Albert so he understood how different music can touch the soul.
Thanks , If your folks can’t recall this one, I bet the farm they have heard another of their great hits, great artist here
One of the members of the group played the flute in many of their songs. They had a slew of great tracks.
This album called “Days of Future Past” should be listened straight through. All the songs flow together. This album was a big part of my early teen years.
A haunting melody. I saw them LIVE many decades ago. They were great. Yeah, when Justin sings you almost feel like at any moment he's going to veer into a different key. He always sounds fragile but it really works for this band.
You need to understand that back in the day when this came out, most of us didn’t listen through headphones. It was a great song then, and now it’s an even more awesome song ❤🔥
He has a very cool tone to his voice. He wasn't replaceable in that band.
The whole album is beautiful and needs to be listened to from start to finish in one sitting.
Never a Moddy fan, but these guys were a major lynchpin of 70s rock. Essential band. And that vocal control before the trotting change-up is legendary.
Viewing this on a Tuesday afternoon…yes that mellotron is so distinctive of the era and their orchestral style & cosmic lyrics really bring you back to that time. Their album covers were equally good. Thanks guys.👍
My dad lived the Moody’s grew up listening to them. I got tix to see them in concert when I was 17 and my Dad was super proud lol..
When I was in high school in the 70s, the Moody Blues "Nights In White Satin" was always the most requested slow dance song at the high school dances and teen clubs.
So, groovy, that's their best tune fellows. Good stuff, God bless.
There's a longer version off the "Days of Future Passed" album that ends with Ray Thomas's flute and an orchestral arrangement in the background.
I didn't become aware of the Moody Blues in ernest until I was in the summer between eigth grade and my freshman year in high school due to my girlfriend's older brother who was a Moody Blues fanatic. It was 1971! I became a fan from that point on. They were the first group to employ the new technology of synthesizers in such a profound way that it sounded like neo-classical composure.
The greatest decade of music started in 67 thru 77, Sargent Peppers, Pet Sounds, this. A start to prog and every thing that follows.
This one is fun starting the album and playing the entire thing in one sitting. Each song moves into another one during a time of day as in morning, afternoon, evening and night. I always loved their lyrics because they were much deeper and spiritual in what they were putting out there. Love my Moody's! Still listen to all of the classics, makes me feel good.
The summer of my 14th year was awesome 😊
YOU MUST WATCH LIVE MOODY BLUES "NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN"❤❤🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍
Moody Blues had a keyboardist with synthesizers to sound like an orchestra. Sadly he passed. Every album is a journey!! "DAYS OF FUTURE PAST" AND "THRESHOLD OF A DREAM" ARE CLASSICS❤❤❤❤❤👍👍👍👍👍
Puts you in a place and mood.
The album, Days Of Future Past, is one continuous journey through the day with no breaks in between. Starts with The Day Begins, Dawn, The Morning, Lunch Break, The Afternoon ( Tuesday?), Evening ( Sunset, Twilight Time), Nights In White Satin.
YOU NEED TO HEAR THE EXTENDED VERSION., IT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY.
So much melancholy in this song. Walk away Renee hits me the same way. But I love them both.
One of my favorite songs !
Lyrics were sheer poetry👍👍👍👍
Their first 7 albums from 67-72 are incredible. Go Jays! Cheers ✌️
Well, La, now you gotta fill us in on your Tuesday afternoons!! Haha! Moody Blues are trippin’ excellent!
I remember those carefree days when I could drop acid on a Tuesday afternoon.
Another song that's from my playlist!
Thank you. 😊
Love these guys.
I love this song. I also love "The Question" which I can't remember if it was on this album. Please check out their song The Question.
The Moody Blues are one of my favorite groups, there's lots to dive into with them.
Suggestions:
The Story in Your Eyes
Gypsy
Nights in White Satin
I'm Just a Singer
Legend of a Mind
These guys are the KINGS of the MELOTRON😮😊
Love Love Love!!! ❤❤
You absolutely have to listen to the entire album cut of Tuesday Afternoon! In fact, listen to the entire album!! It's a brilliant work, so different, so ahead of It's time in many aspects.
Great reaction. The Moody Blues catalogue is an other opportunity for a another deep dive. I particularly recommend the "Seven Sojourn" album and two other singles: "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock and Roll Band" and "Story in Your Eyes."
This album should be played from beginning to end….like a mini rock concert…❤
Days of Future Past... the soundtrack of my teens. To get the most of each song, you have to listen to the whole album without interruption, as it goes through a complete day in the life...Thanks for the great reaction to a song that is so close to my heart.
Listen to the full album cut of this entire album. Lots of orchestra blended with the guitars and melaton and bass and flute and killer drums.
My older brother had this from Columbia Records.
This came out the same time as Pink Floyd's first LP. Moody Blues had a wide audience, and this was played on the AM radio a lot. They were a good band then.
Love this song. ❤
Singer Justin Hayward's 1st album, his voice continued to improve.
That's a mellotron. One of the first times heard in recorded music, played by Mike Pinder. With the Moody Blues, it's the whole thing together: songwriting, harmonies, instrumentation, musicianship. They had a SOUND nobody has matched then or now.
Justin Hayward said that he wrote the song on a Tuesday afternoon in Lypiatt Park, in western England near Stroud. Hayward's mother had taken him and his brother to the park while they were growing up, and he revisited the park during the production of Days of Future Passed to write the song. He said that he wrote the song "with guitar and joint in hand".
Some albums are best listened to completely in one sitting. Days of Future Past is one such album.
My 2nd fav moody blues song after Nights in White Satin !!!
This is one of two radio hits that came from the album (Nights in White Satin the other). The whole thing is really simple...it's about a day of leisure and romance. It starts at sunrise and ends in the dark (with Nights in White Satin).
Afternoon is followed by a beautiful evening song which could've also been on the radio.
Much of the album is like background music but there are highlight moments like this song that you don't want to miss.
It segues into '(Evening) Time to Get Away' on the album, and was often played that way on the radio back in the day. It's very nice.
I think Justin Hayward has a beautiful voice. Loved your reaction. My Dad played this record all summer one summer in the early 80s. He is my rock music guru.
Their album Days Of Future Passed is a classic album from 1967, no organ, it's a mellotron !
Yep remember hearing this on the radio a lot when I was young teenager👏👏👏
You didn't listen to the right nights in white satin
