Was hoping you would've circled back down by mcds, there's a Quality Inn, sleep inn all on the river great places to stay on the way to Bryson City. Also Uncle Bens flea markets are fun too. Also part of Cherokee.
Back in the late 60's my dad bought me my first pair of Minnetonka Moccasins (they were made in USA back then...China now) at a store in the old section of Cherokee. We always stopped for boiled peanuts from the huge kettle! Yummy! But yes, it's changed a lot, those cool old souvenir shops are mostly closed or with very little items inside. That pancake house on the corner was really good, then after COVID hit, they closed forever. There was a great souvenir store next to it loaded with real Indian jewelry and items. The scenery is still and always will be beautiful!
Thanks for the drive down memory lane, I loved Cherokee when I was growing up, I have stayed at the Pink motel lots of times that was my mom's favorite place to stay when we came to Cherokee back in the 1970's and early 1980's, I always had so much fun, this drive brought back so many memories, loved it 💕💕💕
Bringing back memories of my trip last week. I stayed at the super 8 in Cherokee. Nice clean rooms. Good staff. I drove back and forth to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. I love the drive through the smokies. Actually the dairy queen is actually open. It was last week. Santa land will be open soon in Cherokee also.
I loved this drive. thanks for telling me the kfc is closed. I wish you would have continued up the winding road to Maggie Valley. I love that drive. Will do you remember Frontier Land that use to be there? It was similar to Ghost Town. It was where the casino is now. That is why some of the stores and one of the hotel has FrontierLand in its title. Thanks for posting this video.
There is a nice walking trail that goes around the Indian village that is very very nice. It has gardens and ponds, herbs, flowers and is so peaceful! You should check that out Dawn. That KFC needed to close it was nasty in there every time we went. The poor bears are living in concrete pits. We prefer staying on this side of the Smokies away from the chaos in Gatlinburg. Not a lot to do but that's the way we like it.
Last time I was there, my wife and I stopped at the Dairy Queen, I ordered, then looked on the wall, the health certificate had a grade of “86”. But, the ice cream tasted okay. But, just saying, maybe the manager just had a “that’s good enough” attitude.
We enjoyed eating at the buffet at The Big Boy Restaurant years ago. It was always busy and the food was really good. Our grandson enjoyed Santa's Land when he was little.
We have lots of memories of Cherokee when our kids were little. We’ve stayed at River’s Edge and have seen “Unto These Hills.” Thanks for another Yellow Jeep adventure.
Do you remember Owls Campground? It was where Harrahs is now. It was on the other side of the creek from Frontierland to its right. We spent our summers there growing up. It was our second home. The white and red building across the road from Pan fer Gold is where DQ used to be. Granny’s Restaurant is great!
i spent a lot of time in cherokee as a teenager my most favorite memory was frontier land up the mountain its gone now we stayed at chiefs motel and ate a lot at soco dinner the owners name was elsie
Oh the memories, the swinging bridge, the Indian chief with pictures and the bear in the cage with the old man that gave him soft drinks, and so many other things growing up enjoyed and now it is not like Cherokee anymore, I just bypass on to Maggie Valley and Bottomless Pools, Lake Lure area. Have a great day Will and Dawn, love and blessings
I am still cutting back on UA-cam channels. I am tired of the news and some of channels that are getting a bit odd. I enjoy you and the Yankee channel. Will keep these and a few others. Keep up the entertaining rides and the ones when just you two talked and no one can write in.
If you want real authentic crafts you can go to Qualla Arts and Crafts. They are a little pricey but they are made by our people with their own hands. You have to be approved by a board just to be allowed to sell your crafts there.
Cherokee was fun growing up. When they built the big casino the atmosphere changed.
Yes you are right
We visit often and we noticed that. I'm sure it's more profitable , but it would been nice if they could have kept the other part to.
