I bought a Lowden F50 a month ago and its the greatest guitar i have ever played the clarity and sustain is unbelievable. The santa cruz is lovely as well. With Gibsons and Martin’s half the money is the brand with these guitars its all in the wood and the build.
@Gerard R. Thats not what I said whatsoever. I've owned 3 Santa Cruz guitars which were all wonderful. Soul is in many guitars.I said that nothing carries the soul of a Lowden, which I still believe.
I'm 57 year old ,2+ years into learning the guitar, I can honestly say it's changed my life for the better. I was lucky, to be in the position, to buy an ebay one year old s32 lowden .It was an hour or so drive from where I live, so could check it out.Its fantastic!
A great choice for any skill level. Congratulations on finding one you could connect with! Hopefully you can enjoy our videos until you've recharged your cravings and need that second Lowden ;) Thanks for watching, Mr. Devine!
SCGC! I'm in love with it. Never played one. Eager to get in "touch" with one of these sound angels. Day will come. Thank you guys🤗... following you from northern Italy 🇮🇹
I played two of them a few yrs back. They are just magical and I ain't no fanboy. I just can't deny they blow your mind. I played them with a rosewood pick and fingerstyle. Plastic plectrums aren't good enough for these guitars.
Great video! And I love your store! Regarding the comparison, there's no loser IMO. The two instruments serve different purposes. I love both of these brands, but especially at this price point, it really depends on the relationship between the player and the individual instrument. It's a marriage of love that'll last a lifetime. For me, I fell for a Goodall back in 2016. It was, by far, the most expensive instrument I ever bought, and has proven to be the best purchase I've ever made. It changed my life.
If you haven’t, I would love to see a true blind guitar test with Brenden and Mike and see what they pick from just the sound. No cheating by touching headstock or cutaway checking or anything, just pick up and play.
Both sound great. Most I love the typical Santa sound. It’s warm and bright. I own a Santa OM myself and love every piece of it. I would recommend a Santa to everybody, it’s worth every cent. I will never sell ‘my precious…’
I always enjoy the shootouts, but this was not a serious contest. I mean the Lowden body has twice the depth of the Santa Cruz. A fairer comparison would be to compare guitars with similar depths. Love the playing and the analysis in any case.
We appreciate you watching! For nearly all of our videos, I believe we use a Logitech Blue Mic. If you'd like the exact model, feel free to give us a shout and we can find out the specifics!
Thanks for the video! One day you have to make a video with all the models of a brand. I would like to hear the different sounds of a Lowden for example. 🙏
Two fantastic guitars! For me, SC is warmer, and Lowden brighter; with this test, i prefer SC; but 2 différent tones... i think a good test would be with a lowden and a collings...
Santa Cruz OM are always my favorite guitars which is just awful because they are the ones that I will never be able to afford. I really wish my favorite was a sub $1000 guitar however a Santa Cruz export and OM came into the local city shop a few yrs back and they both blew my mind for the tone, playability and the minimalistic appearance. All the money went on materials with just a moderate rosette décor and binding. The fretboards were Ebony with tiny dots just added to the mouthwateringly beautiful vibe these guitars had. I will be eternally hollowed out not to own one. It's like the Chopper bike guys who dream of one day owning a beautiful bike but can never afford one. I currently own a Yamaha which is OK but when you have indeed played a really good guitar going back is just horrible:(
Mickey, your appreciation for a quality guitar is what keeps us proud of the guitars we carry. Consider contacting us to see what options are available for you. We'd love to help!
I'd LOVE an F50, they are incredible. I have a 32se which is very good, but the 50 series are just amazing. My only criticism is using a plectrum strumming open chords in standard tuning on an F50 CRINGE !!! Come on man, that F50 is made for fingerstyle, not strumming.
Both amazing guitars! I have a Lowden S32c that I absolutely love. I was going to get a Dreadnought sized guitar next, but I find the F body just much nicer. They also opened a dealer about 50' from my house this week, so Ill likely be broke by the end of the year. 😂
So I’m here watching this video using my Bose soundsport wireless earphones and I gots say that the sounds excellent. The guitars are sounding fantastic. I don’t like the look of the lowden but the sound is amazing. I’m a Santa Cruz guy hence I would choose that one. Carpathian spruce top hmmmm. The lowden neck looks real solid.. almost like a classical.
Dude, I hear ya on the looks. But they grow on you when you hear the sound coming out while playing. Every time I take a close look at the shape of mine, I think it's kinda stupid looking. And then I play it and that thought goes out the window. I no longer care how it weird it looks or that the fingerboard and bridge are two different colors of wood. I am just lost in inspiration and the songs come flowing out.
I'm looking over shoulders at the McPherson on the wall. I own one and recently bought a Lowden. Just different personalities... The Lowden needs checking all the time for humidity levels etc. The finish is nice but high maintenance.
Man... I still kick myself in the butt whenever I hear a Lowden... Why? Because I was SO close to buying a beautiful new Lowden almost 20 years ago, for $800(Canadian)!!! I had and still have a Gurian CR3 ...but it has a completely different voice. Shoulda', woulda', coulda'... but I didn't! Arrrgh! Lol BTW This is the first time I've viewed one of your videos.... definitely liked and subscribed.
A fantastic comment, thank you Mr. Thompson. We keep both these brands close to our heart, but as for Lowden, they continue to impress us year after year. Hopefully you're able to find one that's too good to pass up. Until then, now that you've subscribed, we'll keep sending videos your way! Thanks again
After hearing Lowden, all other guitars sound dull. Santa Cruz is excellent but comparing to Lowden, it sounds like it’s catching up with Lowden but still behind it by a shoulder range in a race.
Two very different approaches and methods to creating their instruments, and it shows in their final product. If you ever have the opportunity, sit and try both in person and see how you feel about the sound. In person, there isn't much left behind from Santa Cruz.
If you tell us what you'd like to hear, we'd be happy to help! We ship around the world every week and would gladly add you to our shipping list ;) Thanks for watching R!
Hi guys, Lowden F50 is a good one to keep at the bedside but not for show in public places as its aesthetics not upto the mark. Santacrauz is good and looking better but it's still falling short of my wanted low end basal tone.
@@cs3634 100% The only people who buy guitars purely on looks, are people who can't play, and just sit them on a wall hook to look pretty and tell everyone 'look what I can afford to buy'. Lowden's are for REAL musicians. My 32se gets hammered every day of the week.

Thanks for commenting Tim... we agree!
Lowden for me. Guitar is about sound and feel. Nothing carries the soul of a Lowden. There are great guitars everywhere but soul is hard to find.
Oh my goodness, I MUST agree with you friend! "Soul" - you hit the nail on the head...

Well done Angus, you made a great choice. I bought a brand new 32se a few years ago, and it's just wonderful.
This Lowden has the magic sauce, bruh.
Irish magic!
No brainer....Lowden. I am biased because I have a collection of Lowdens.
Nice! Lowdens are amazing!

Lowden without a doubt...although not really a fair comparison due to difference in size.
Thanks for watching! Appreciate the comment!
Amazing sound for the thinner body Santa cruz, but the cedar lowden, man! Something else.
Yeah... both beautiful guitars - the Lowden has the edge for me :)
Good choice!

Both Sound & Look of "The Lowden" wipes the floor against "The Santa Cruz" which is also a great guitar
For steel strings, I'll go with Spruce. For nylon, I prefer Cedar top.
Great combos - thanks for watching
My Furch cedar oom 12 fret. is great for fingerstyle🐸

both great. both different. I would have a hard time choosing but I will. Santa Cruz
Walk out with either of these and I'm happy

The first song I would play if I won the Taylor GS Mini would be Van Halen’s 316.
It'd be so hard to choose in your shop but you guys picked some great ones!
Thanks Paul! Appreciate the comment!!

They really are great models. We do have to give samples for all levels of players! Thanks for watchin'!
I'm surprised cuz I'm biased towards Lowden. Its not a cop-out ... I preferred the SC for strumming & Lowden for fingerstyle.
I own a SC OM, but will probably also get a Lowden S25J
good choice!
For an additional entry for the Taylor GS Mini, I guess Toby’s favorite food is none other than hotdogs! Every dog loves hotdogs.
This is fun! I sure enjoy your videos!!! Both great, but the Lowden would be my choice!!
Lowden = Amazing, but the SC is right there too! Thanks for commenting

Great comparison--but I would have loved to hear them in DADGAD. If the Lowden couldn't win that contest, it's the SC all the way.
That particular Santa Cruz would do it for me!
There's quite a few that do it for us! Thanks for watching, Mr. Aldo
What if I told you that Richard Hoover is making the best acoustic guitars on the market today?
I'd say you may be right!
In terms of a single guitar, McPherson is the best. Considering a full catalog, Santa Cruz is the best.
I would vote for the Lowden
Thumbs up for Toby alone! :)
Lowden, hands down
They do make a great sounding guitar! Vote tallied ;)
