Thank you so much for posting this video. On the 18th of January, I am scheduled to have a below knee amputation of my right leg due to a bad case of osteomyelitis. I'm having a rough time accepting my fate but I believe I have no other options. These past couple of months have been a total rollercoaster for me. At times, I'm depressed and hopeless. Then there are times when I feel angry. Sometimes I feel like maybe everything will be oaky. I'm very nervous about having the surgery. I'm concerned about the time it takes to heal and the amount of pain associated with the surgery. I'm also concerned about the amount of time it takes to get a prosthetic. Watching your video and seeing how positive and happy you are gives me hope that I too will be just fine. Thank you for your bravery and sharing your story.
Brandon Mclean hey, I have osteomyelitis too and I'm getting my right leg amputated below the knee this coming January, how did you do? Please let me know, it'll help alot
It's late but... It takes about 2 months for the wound to heal and get your first prothesis. If you're skilled you'll spend one month more getting used to it. I saw old people spending much more time. After that the renewal of your leg depends on insurances. Are you ok now ?
Loved the party hat at the beginning!! 🎉 What a great idea on the foot prints and cement mold! And I love that you cremated your leg and didn’t toss it, I didn’t realize that was an option. I know this is a very old video. Hope to see more soon!
Watching your videos remi d me of all the pain and frustration I had as a toddler legs casted all the time to correct a birth defect they are not perfect but functional and you are so brave and strong my surgeries were 50 yrs ago keep going young lady
You are just so amazing I wanted to cry. We take things for granted a lot and you are just a beautiful way of showing how to appreciate everything. You are so positive and I'm so happy that you are happy❤ stay the way you are because you are fantastic💜💜
I'm not sure if you know this or not but there is a process which can turn the cremated remains of a loved one (in your case it would be your leg) into a diamond... As I was watching your video I thought this would be a really cool thing for you to do. That way you can always keep your leg with you. Just a thought
i am having my leg leg taken off above the knee in january . really looking forward to it . your videos are helping me a lot . learning far more than from doctors . thank you .
Love how positive you are.... my mom recently had a below the knee amputation and im finding it upsetting to see my mom go throw this and no it will take a while for her to get used to it.. seeing videos like this put a smile on my face and makes me more positive
awe, your so cutes. I love how up beat and positive about your stump and your prosthetic leg. your are one strong woman, all I can say is your so awesome and inspiring. keep up the positive thoughts and vibes and keep the videos a coming. 🤗😘💜💜💜💪👍🤘✌
I want to be your friend so bad rn you're amazing. Also I love how you cremated your leg and you're just holding the box like it's no big deal, it made me smile. Idk if that's weird. But for real you seem so strong, cool, and beautiful. Keep on living life girl :)
This is great, really love your attitude towards everything! I face a possible amputation from an ongoing infection in my bone- keep moving forward & inspiring people.
I just found your channel and you're amazing! I'm doing my Senior project on Prosthetics and Robotics and I would love to ask you some questions about your experience with the prosthetic if you don't mind. Is there anyway I can contact you personally? Email or Facebook? Thank you.
Just by sheer, almost unbelievable coincidence I found this video in today's recommend videos listings. What a totally weird coincidence that the first time I ever received this in my recommended videos list was on today's date! I just looked at today's date, and realized that today is actually my real "Ampuversary"! (June 13) My amputation was actually on a Friday the Thirteenth! (My lucky day!) It is almost as if someone at UA-cam knew the significance of today's date to me, and recommended it (they couldn't possibly know)! I love, and will use the word "Ampuversary" when discussing the date of my amputation in the future. Thank you for expanding the English language for me! I'm so glad that you are doing so well with your prosthesis, as am I!
I just buried my first cousin Reginald who passed away on February 17th, 2018. He was about to get his prosthetic leg but he died from bacteria infection & food that got inside his lungs from that flap inside his throat. He was 25. He battled type 1 diabetes since he 12. He had a contagious pnuemonia, doctors had to put a pace maker in his heart, he had to be on dialysis & he had a seizure. He lost his left toes, left pinky finger & right leg amputated from a flesh eating bacteria & his heart stopped more than 10 times from a 5 month period of being in the hospital & dying at a physical therapy nursing home. I miss my best cousin Reginald Vance Lamar Jr.
@@KarinaAmeliaAmputee I love your positive outlook... I have come to a Crossroads regarding my leg situation... And am considering the amputation ...it's tough but you make me feel better about it ..and I'm realizing that other issues will compacte matters if I stay as I am....a real inspiration... If I cry today....it's with happiness rather than sadness and feeling sorry and sad...thanks.
Hi Karina! My name is Stacy I am 22 years old and becoming an elective amputee myself. Wondering if or how we could connect I haven’t had much luck. I would love some insight ♥️ Cheers !
Laura Palmer not always, especially if you are born with a deformed crippled leg and had multiple surgeries that didn't work. Watch her other videos that explain her congenital problem. Also a buddy of mine had his leg totally crushed and had multiple surgeries in an attempt to fix it that didn't work. He tried for 3 years with reconstructive surgeries to fix the problems. His leg eventually became nothing but a source of pain and he decided to have it amputated. Now he's back to running, hiking and other sports. Some people get a new lease on life because their source of pain is gone.
@@Pingaheimer yes, he did because he had permanent nerve damage and partial paralysis and constant bone infections. In addition to that he had issues with blood flow because of arterial damage due to his accident which compromised healing. Like I said it was nothing but a source of pain.
The party hat on your leg made me laugh soo hard 😂❤️
