This is a great excersice, but people which have collapsing knees inwards (x-shape) can get issues without doing it in proper form. Allignment tip: When leaning forward to put pressure on the leg your knee should push outside to block the view to the smallest toe (feet is standing on the outer side, but heel and biggest toe aren't lifting!). Also make sure to be warmed up and as mentioned do a slow and controlled movement! Have a good one! :)
You're so stretch it's honestly beautiful! Keep it up with your videos, you're such an inspiration and hopefully someday our bodies will reach that fuller potential! All the best 💫

I’m 65 and getting ready to change things up. I have always been active and capable but as I age I see my neighbors really go down hill fast. Holy cow, not for me. Started hanging to get stronger, went to be able to do numerous pull-ups. This leg thing looks good too. Gonna be watching
Hi Josh! Great video, thank you...question...I get cramps a lot in my feet and calves now, almost daily. They are starting to interfere with my life. I was a dancer for many years so I know there is nerve damage, but doctors couldn't help. Acupuncture doesn't help. Drinking more water electrolytes doesn't help. Maybe there is an exercise? Or you have an idea that could help? At this point I'm so frustrated. When I search on the web it just says everyone gets them - as they get older. Ugh! Maybe you can you create a video about this with exercises, or do you already have one on this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again! Love your channel!
Look into foot exercise videos. They really help tremendously when you do them regularly. And a lot of times it’s abt stretching the supporting muscles like calf and ankles.
I got really strong leg by doing explosive hindu squats and sumo squats. Also FitnessFAQ done a video on using step ups to increase leg muscles and strength.
59 is a number and nothing beyond that, if anything the more years you been on this planet the stronger you should be but your presenting it in reverse like you good cause at your age your doing things. Remove your ego
As a trainer I can confidently say yes. This is one of the number one exercises to treat and prevent these issues, and to correct lower extremity postural deficiencies. This is exactly how I have taught the step up for 20 years!
One other thing to try is lifting your toes (dorsiflex) on the balance leg before the step up. It stops the plantar flexion push to get you out of the hole.

Thanks for this! I stopped doing step ups because I felt like I was just using the resting leg to kick off and couldn't figure out how to not...
"Ooooor you can just squat your dog" lmao *headstothehumansocietytosquatallthedogs ...totally apart of the volunteer rehabilitation program there... ultimate trust + strength building exercise🤷🏻♀️!!! Lol Thanks again for another awesome vid 👊🏼
In my friend group I have the strongest legs, but it's not enough!!! I need to get more stronger! I have some weird motor disability so I can barely move my feet but that's not gonna stop me!
Wont this position screw up the knee cap or cause knee pain, not criticizing you but if is one of my concerns before I do that at 58, so would you please address this in your next videos? Thanks
Just tried this exercise. Great motion of motion and you notice the difference when not using momentum. I need to work on lower body mobility, so to avoid simply dropping back down on the lowering phase, do you recommend holding a doorway or frame for extra support? Thanks.
One trick to work this sort of thing into your daily life is to treat stairs as an opportunity to use only the forward leg for lifting. Just take care to not use momentum or roll off the back foot. Put all your weight onto your forward leg and simply lift your back foot up off the floor and place it on the next step. When single steps are easy, go up 2 stairsteps at a time instead of 1.
I just broke my right knee March 31st and got permission to put weight on it, but my leg has absolutely no strength in it, what’s something I could do to help it get stronger over time?
I'm 65. Real.problems with balance. Right thigh ligament damaged 7yrs ago from jump squats and up hill sprints. Can't run anymore. This though is doable I think..

Great tip! Who makes those shoes though? I like the minimalist design.
For anyone interested, the shoes are the Xero Aptos and they are very comfortable zero drop shoes.
Awesome thanks!

Is thus movement physiologically correct, sound and a preventive for potential knee, leg, tendon and cartilage injury ?

Of course you have to start slow and build up to more difficult things, especially if you're older or if you aren't used to working out
Your left knee was beyond your foot, was it not painful to do? Is it not putting too much force to it?
Yes be careful of knee placement.
Bad knees, beginner. Any recommendations before attempting this one?
A better idea imo is for the lower leg to only touch with your heel, that way you cant use it to push up as long as the knee is straight
Hey great advice, this is like the beginning phase of the pistol squat
Iconic.
i probably went up and down the stairs a hundred times today so i'm good
i didnt know it was possible to do a step up that high. Damn now i know what i gotta work on
Yes!

Body weight squats with full depth also produce tremendous growth However you need to perform 300+ everyday if not more

That is a good one!! I need to get such a cute dog for the weighted variant🤣🥰👍🏻
What if you have bad knees?
I need 2 knee replacements can't do surgery now.
❓How can I help strengthen my legs❓
Need more dog workouts 💯
When will strength side ship to Canada?! :)
it looks similar to climbing up the stairs. Can climbing up stairs help in developing the leg strength?
I just broke my right knee March 31st and got permission to put weight on it, but my leg has absolutely no strength in it, what’s something I could do to help it get stronger over time?
I'm 65. Real.problems with balance. Right thigh ligament damaged 7yrs ago from jump squats and up hill sprints. Can't run anymore. This though is doable I think..
I tried one of the stretches you suggested and messed up my knees. This one is also putting all the pressure on the knees.
Does this also help my calves
ok! Keep up that good good
may I ask, the knee should not pass the toe while uplifting, is that right?
You can keep your foot on dorsiflexion so you won’t be able to help by doing plantar flexion. You will also increase ROM by doing that.
Do we do this with the other leg too
i know that dog had to be a cute lil puppy
Im grabbing my dog and he is like yeah only this was left to see
Where I can get those shorts? Thanks
Sir what is your weight and height
