Theres stages to conniving ratshit, skip was right and the feds are pretty bad at negating some of its poorer effects.
It begins with paranoia, they're let back out like dogs on a leash, unsure if they can trust anyone in their lives to get them out of it, and certain that theyre being watched by the government. Assignments where theyre forced to awkwardly fetch information or lean in and take names will increase the distrust of others around them, and further fuel this feeling.
Once they accept damnation, there aren't really ways off the leash. They can run away from their friends and family and hope the pigs aren't on their tails, they can escape and throw away the pigs' proposals, they can off themselves, or they can continue their sordid lives as attack dogs for the government.
Pussy figures this last option is his only chance because he's convinced his family and friends have had enough of his shit. As a criminal, he stole killed and dealt drugs to "make a better living", to provide for himself and his family in a world where there aren't too many great options to seize. As the government's criminal, he siphons information and threatens the livelihoods of people and their families under the personal guise of saving his own ass.

I have to say the writing for Pussy arguing his innocence is actually really amazing, even I was convinced he was just afraid of Tony. Then it all came out as bullshit and it was like holy fuck these writers can manipulate the living shit out of me. I started to understand how Tony felt where after Jimmy and Pussy you couldn't really trust anyone, always looking over your shoulder. I mean look at Richie he just literally tried to tear apart the organization from inside for his own power. No matter if they were veterans of the crew who never got arrested or originals returning from jail they couldn't be trusted, that is an insanely paranoid state to have to be in on top of worrying about law enforcement, New York, and a million other little crews. I would never want to be a boss in organized crime, this really convinced me with Tony and the experiences of Johnny that it's a lonely heartless life and only the lucky ones make it to the point of Carmine, but look at even him before he died everyone in New York resented him and his son. Wolves sitting around waiting for the Alpha to finally die, but remaining loyal out of an old code that even some were willing to break for their own position. Fucking absolute nightmare and all of it for money and petty grievances that get blown out of portion because of malice and arrogance.

No better Christmas viewing then sopranos season 1-3 nothing wrong with the other 3(technically 4) but the first 3 seasons are definitely a different beast and my favorite and also hold a lot of sentimental value from the first time I had watched the sopranos was like 11 years ago, my girlfriend was pregnant with our son and we were very active spontaneous always going out and socializing and she was extremely extroverted and mind you we are still in a recession nd with the severely bad Northern European winters and she was 22 I was 19 we kinda started to suffer, like social media and smart phones were just starting to gain traction, and rental shops were still in use and we had both been told to watch the sopranos by tonnes of people for years prior to meeting (we were like only togethor a year) and we were so broke we had to rent each season every 2 weeks or so which would cost 17-26 depending if we returned it late, we were so poor we couldn't just buy the whole box set new for like 85 euro which was like basically an entire weeks income (100€ a week payment, no jobs to be hand and i was just under a year out of school before you could get welfare), the show fucking saved us, laughed cryed completely drawn in also seriously helped us with some of our own interpersonal problems..... Recommend the sopranos as an aid for broke young couples not having the best time at it, seriously it helps the show is therapeutic for so many.
