Not Clean at all. There's no good reason to leave rot or any debris under a sheet replacement. Then there was no depth setting done on the saw. Definitely amature hour.
Plus why break on same seam as above ply? Half ass amateur hour
And left rot bottom left corner of piece… f$ck give me the address I’ll do it proper for free it’s making me lose sleep
This is so cool to watch. I'm the Accountant for a large roofing company here in Ohio. So cool to see what our crews do on a daily basis.
Wow I can’t imagine paying for a whole new roof and then deciding not to pay the few bucks for another 2x4 to sister up the damaged one. Bad move by the homeowner. Super informative video though!
My brother... Thanks for this post as I'm a stupid electrician trying to be a roofer on my recent purchase of this "fixer" house.
Doing metal roofing. Installed half the house and done but the opposing side on this double wide is rotten. The vent cut is priceless for me. I had no idea what was going to be the easiest thing to do on those.
Thanks for the vid.
Hope it went well. Always been curious and wondered why metal wasn’t used more to avoid headaches later lol
@@Tino2o9
Hey Tino.
Yes. It went quite well. A learning experience for sure. With the help of so many to refer information from was priceless for me and I thank you and the others out there in UA-cam world!
I added the SolarFlex (I think it what it's called) using a roller and a couple of the 5 gallon jugs, 3 total for the 60X18 double wide to coat the roofing as well. That and adding an attic fan I happen to have from my company stock (3300sqft fan for this 1600 total sq ft attic) and it runs very seldom during the hottest of days here in SoEast Arizona. It helped A LOT reflecting the sun's raze.
Thank you again for your help with this project. Appreciate it!
Mold and wood rot will spread over time with just the moisture in the air. It's important to get it all out and not leave contaminated wood ( spores ) so it won't spread as easily again. A quality - through contractor would sister the rafters or trusses a put down some (copper napthane) wood preservative to stop the mold- rot growth on areas not removable. Mold and it's mycotoxins are a burden to the body add those to other one's we are exposed to and someday it might tip you over.
Bull
he discussed the fact the homeowner was not willing to pay for anything more then. the removal of the rotten plywood.
@@corymay7520The home owner may very well regret that decision. From what I saw he left some of the rotten wood on the roof.
@@michaelyoder7329 ?
That’s garbage. As soon as the rain stops coming in, it will dry out. It won’t spread spores everywhere. It’s a dry attic. I’ve never in my life seen mold spread in a dry attic. Go ahead and keep spreading your mold propaganda.
Learning so much watching your videos. Much appreciated. Keep it up.
This was the best half ass work I've ever seen..🙌
You are so right😊
Yes, speed is the name of game here. Square hole for the pipe, picks a crooked peace of wood to draw straight line ;)
Who gives a fuck if its a square hole? Sheathing is something called "rough carpentry." It does not matter one bit if the opening is square or round.@gupperguppygupper
Seemed alright. Definitely a field expedient cut and 'measure' but the owner already didn't want to pay to reinforce a rotting truss so perhaps the cost savings was what the customer valued most in this instance.
Very informative, but why did you leave that debris under the plywood. My OCD ass would be cleaning that shit out.
Great video for us homeowners. Thanks for this!
More like, great video for do-it-yourself fix & flippers. Please treat your house better.
Definitely a helpful video. I’m not a carpenter or roofer, I drive fork trucks for a living, we recently moved into a house earlier this year, and slowly I’ve been fixing things going on with it. On the backside of the house, it’s missing the gutter, facia, and the wood underneath is looking a little bad. I may need to take shingle back and check to see how bad the damage is there. Right now I can hear a squirrel or something in there nibbling on things. Needs to get fixed.
I just trapped a raccoon that had chewed two holes in our roof.yes , sometimes you must expose the ugly damage, remove it and start with fresh material if u can afford it.
@@kevbosgarage good, it actually looks and functions normal now, I did some of it but has a company come and finish it, no more squirrels in the attic lol
I trapped the raccoon with a Cage trap on the roof.then pulled off the damaged shingles exposing the decking.screwed down some ice shield material I snagged from a dumpster over the hole then slid in a few 3 tab shingles at the area.no leaks or critters.I’ll have to cut in some plywood and fix it properly with matching shingles.
The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.😁
Great instruction. So much communicated. I do think I'd get me cordless circular saw.
I have to do mine and it's intimidating. Thanks for the video I am gonna try to do it this spring... wish me luck.
Thanks for sharing you make it look so easy. Im a woman and im gonna attempt to repair a patch similar in size. Youre awesome ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Use this as a how not to video
Thank you! I now have a step by step on how to repair a portion of my roof. You saved me plenty of $. Wish I could send you a gift card.
Thank you for the Detailed, & Informative Video. I needed all the info I could get before fixing my roof.
Very welcome!
Thank you for sharing. Have a good weekend
Thank you too
I would like to see or know how bad thr shingles were to have so much roof damage like that to compare with my present roof im looking at getting done.
I really love your videos. You make me want to upgrade my roof.
Craigslist Roofer?
Only thing I like doing more is a hole saw to keep the substraight tight around the roof bong
Louis Brown that makes it way easier and cleaner!
Nice , perfect cut.
Got to have that speed square handy for marking those lines my friend
Gracias from texas
Welcome
I just watched a video of a guy using his nail gun without nails adjusting to the deepest setting and tricking the safety and driving the old nails most the way through the plywood. Appears to make it much easier to remove the plywood.
That was crazy! I always cringe when people use a circular saw near nails and “hope” they don’t hit one. Attic lumber is tinder dry; a few sparks on a hot day: goodbye house.
Why would you leave pieces of rotted wood under the new wood?
They always do it. That among other reasons I decided to become my own contractor.
@@walterdiaz2003 we don’t do that shit. I’ll fire one of my guys for that.
I’m surprised the customer didn’t spring for a new board to be sistered to the bad board. It’s what, like 5 min to add a piece there? Couldn’t be that expensive.
The fact that they would charge them for this is deplorable as it’s 5 mins of work and less that 10 bucks to accomplish. Besides the factor of money your putting your company’s name to subpar work by not doing it right. I’m sure they’ll come up with a reasonable excuses about money or the customers wishes but I was raised to know right from wrong
...And in the baffle!
Thxs for technique ,
So , plywood should alwYs be half of the stud /2x6 ?
Repair king my rotted , patio
Thx u
Best video I've seen. Great job bro!
Thanks just what I needed.....do you guys remove that gutter prior to adding drip edge?
@8:08, why did you not fix that 2x4 before you nail the plywood?
As we would normally recommend changing the 2x4 out completely, this homeowner didn’t want to pay for it.
You could even sister a 2x4 next to this one for added strength.
how much does your company charged to replace the hole like that
8:10 - Did you sister the partially rotted two by?
No the framing had a double truss.
@@Average_Roofertheres only 1 trust there... and its rotted isnt it gunna keep rotting ?
I’m replacing shingles next couple years and I already know there’s gonna be a ton of this shit to deal with thanks for the vid
Hey dilly all your tools look brand new. First day on the job? Well since you've broughy back to life by the LORD. LOL Just trollin brotha. Cute video BIG TIMMMME!!!
do all the shingles need to be removed if just replacing a portion of the roof?
No, you can have roofs replaced in sections, as long as the shingles are "tied in" to the existing roof correctly.
is your blade set to a certain depth so you're not slicing into the beam?
Yes, it’s approximately 1/16 larger than the depth of the plywood. This case being 1/2 plywood the blade depth is just slightly higher then that.
Homeboy left some rotten wood. What a hack.
I use a cats claw and pull some of the nails out before I pull the plywood I recommend one makes the job easier
Devin Manns absolutely true. Forgot it in the shop on the job. But it shows homeowners you can make do without any fancy tools. 😂
@@Average_Roofer true, a guy once told me "I'll smoke you with a black and decker" lol
Looks great but next time you put a small piece of fur in there toss some clips in! Other than that looks really good! Roof on brother!
No gloves??? You're a brave man! Nice video. What about the rafter that had some rot on it?
I hear chipmunks! Lol these vids are great, learning lots
When cutting the plywood, how did you not cut through the rafters?? Did you angle the blade to half an inch to make sure it didn’t go through anything else?
Probably a stupid question but I’m a noob. Thanks in advance!
Yes simply set the depth the a 1/16 shy of the existing plywood and cut. Best of luck!
@@Average_RooferThanks for the quick response and education in the video. Keep doing awesome work! God bless.
That’s cool how you make an easy job so hard good job bud
Bro it time to make the batteries let the cords go lol your work look good tho
1:56 the shadow of CHé Guevara, cutting a piece off his roof. :)
Curious. Do you use battery powered saws now that they are good and strong? Protect the hands.
Why didn’t you cut one more rafter to the left... mildew still on sheet? Props for using CDX instead of garbage OSB!
Chris Parmenter osb is actually superior to plywood. Doesn’t delaminate, higher sheer strength and cheaper. Just saying 🤷🏻♂️
Not a chance you will be seeing me replace with OSB. I live in Oregon and OSB ruined my kitchen window cause it deteriorated from a leak. If it had been CDX it would have just ran off the roof and saved my top plate and window frame! Just sayin!
Still wondering why you left the mildew on that piece. Solid or not it was molded.
@@Average_Roofer try pulling a nail from CDX then OSB. Thank me later nd never use osb
Awesome video. Keep up the good work 👏 🙌
Thank you! Will do! 🙏🏼
I tore off a 22 square roof and 1/3 of the roof deck was rotten, property owner refused to pay me any additional money to replace it and I had to replace it in order to get paid for the roof I already had torn off.
how did you miss that out on the pre inspection?
How much would A repair like this cost in total?
$40-150 per sheet, depending on location and complexity.
Awesome thank you
Geez, the height lol
I couldn’t do this job, no way man! Be safe
Whys is there insulation between the rafters on this cold roof
How much did you charge them family❓
Is there asbestos underneath those woods that you were removing?
Why would you disable the dislike button?
Nice video. Boom!
good job
5:40 my right eye was terrified it was about to get battle axed😅
No setting the blade depth boys! Jus cut that rafter in two that’s a good job there lmao, the bigger way!!!!!!
George Heller yeah the blade depth is deep, but notice the guide isn’t touching the deck. It’s saw control.
Your Average Roofer got ya, I guess that’s the difference between a roofer an trim carpenter lol, u do nice work btw! I just was taught a little different it all looks good in the end 👍
go to remove all nail that might get hit with a saw,,,, save blade's and no sparks
Great advice! 👌🏼
Badass
Cool!!
It would have been much easier to get the wood up if you took a cats paw and yanked the nails out
Do you know how to use a tape measure.
What was the pink thing under the plywood?
Insulation keeps your home warm or cool
@@KonsciousBeau not the insulation the plastic or metal thing that looks like a gutter or whatever that is
@@diablalexfull oh! 😩 idk 🤷🏾♀️ I’m trying to learn stuff too lol
A baffle, it's a major component in the ventilation to your attic to help hot air escape and to prohibit moisture from building up in the attic. Fresh air comes thru the soffit, the baffle(The pink looking device) directs it up and in between ridges of your attic to the top most furthest most point(usually the peak of the roof)and the hot air that builds in the attic escapes either out of the turtle vents or a ridge vent.
Tell the god wanna be to quiet up, trying to learn here
homeowner wont pay to sister up the beams? in fucking canada with their snow load? damn hes crazy
You’re telling me. It’s a $750,000 house to
Mine took waay longer than 12 minutes. Now I see it is because I was not working with The Chipmunks 5:10 Great vid tho.👍🏻
Why wouldn’t you just replace the whole sheet rather than cutting out sections?
Just saves on materials I guess, that or the homeowner only paid for say 5 sheets and there was a bunch of smaller spots of rot that would need a half a sheet of replacing. Doesn't make sense to use up a whole sheet for a small chunk of rot
I have had homeowners say why are you taking out a full piece when only half is rotten ?so I said you know what you're right. and I pieced in the roof like a jigsaw puzzle hahaha!
cheating!
I need to learn how to make crickets for a metal roof
They are pretty tough at first, just gotta learn the degrees of a roof pitch and apply that to the support 2x4's so it can be flush to the roof. And just got to make sure you make it big enough/not too small
Oh shoot, didn't notice you said metal roof. Haven't done a metal roof one before, just ones for shingles behind chimneys and such
For behind the chunent randy?
Seam on seam???? Small time
Da Gardner wasn’t my job and limited in material. Was told to work with what I had
is that 3/8” plywood?
Average at best! Bigg Time!!!
And now he's put in seam on steam on the plywood. Not supposed to do that either
Fixing a roof is fixing a roof... don't half-ass it. Do your estimate correctly... don't itemize every single thing, except the cost of the materials. No professional tradie would've done what you just did. Did you ask the owner if they wanted tar-paper between the decking and the shingles as well, lol?
There's always the possibility with damage like this of some rotten trusses... price it in. It takes like a whole 10"-15" to sister some trusses.
What up dillywhacker
Should of changed the whole sheet bruh
831vtc t2 watch the entire video and I explain that I was using only what the homeowner had at his house and said make due. He was low on funds as the roof we tore off was inly 6 years old.
What happed that to cause the old roof to only last 6 years?
@@johnfrancis256 poor ventilation, improper nail placement, not enough nails per shingle, poor decking below shingles, leaking from improper installation. Many factors can cause a roof system to fail prematurely
At 9:41 we want to hear the entire joke!
Sounds like that guy might never keep his mouth shut. I think he would wear me out
Use a battery operated saw to keep from tripping on the cords. I almost left this world using electric saws.
Nothing worse than Canadian roofing. No felt. No ice block. Just shingles to plywood. 😂
We reinstalled it with full Underlayment
Why are you using an axe??
Why nail the new plywood into place over all the rotten chunks of moldy debris? Now that crap is sealed into place. Homeowner’s worst nightmare.
Ask the homeowner who didn’t want to pay for truss work even when he was advised of the potential consequences…
@@Average_Rooferyou do what you have to sometimes, but I’d be skeptical of putting my name on this. Especially for the future. Unless you have in writing the client refused recommended work.
@alfredodiaz7000 this was not for my company. This was for another company who I believe is now out of business.
Not clean ! , No Good !!
Once I saw smoking on roof, I lost interest.
Why you don’t change the other rotten play wood ? the one you left , you have to change everything no make sure there is no leak in the future Cochino 🐷
Cheap boss and homeowner at the time of this video. I no longer work here. Had to work with what I had.
Not a good job at all. Shuddy. Everything affected has to be replaced and old damaged wood taken out. All of it. Rotting wood will continue to rot.
Lousy job for lousy cheap homeowner. There should be changed all rotten plywood and all rotten wood rafters. They will get what they paid for.
If the home owner wouldn't not can't paid to have the roof done right don't do it all... Take a picture or two to show them.. anyway..
