@@teresmajor7956 Yes. I've been saying this for a long long time now, even in CS1. Add some things like parades, political protests, lemonade stands run by kids, street hockey game, grafiti, crime scenes, etc. It could be spawned based on city or neighbourhood stats like high/low crime rate, etc. It would bring the cities to life.

I wish that the tile upkeep cost wasn’t tied to resources in the tiles. It disincentives county and rural builds if too harshly and makes a lot of the most popular custom maps unusable.
In my opinion it’ll make more cities build up and dense instead of low and out. And I don’t think that’s the right solution either.
Maybe if upkeep was tied to amount built in that tile it would make for a good end game challenge. Not sure.

  • @ryanbryla3087
    @ryanbryla3087 10 днів тому +10

The tile upkeep is interesting because its one of the first things in the game that disincentives sprawl. You need to balance the need for wealthy families to want to move to more subsidized sprawl with the need to have tax productive city centers. I think thats kind of a cool challenge, but i also think its good to have a slider for that since it's not how everyone wants to play. Too bad thats not in the base game but im glad algernon is adding it

I don't know if anyone else is going through the same problem as me, but in the game, the demand for stores simply disappeared and never came back. The unemployment rate in the city is very high. I don't know what to do, but since I don't see anyone else complaining about this, I don't know if it's just in my game or if this is supposed to be normal, for a city with 3000 inhabitants to only have 5 stores.

Not a fan of the tile upkeep mechanic. Overall as much as i enjoy watching creators, such as yourself Egg, building cities I'm still feeling pretty ambivalent about CS2 - maybe i have rose tinted glasses for early CS1 but CS2 seems to have alot of micro simulation which i honestly dont care about. But I'm more into the detailing and creative build side so it makes sense that im not too fussed about the simulation (apart from watching sims and traffic moving around). I'm waiting for something to really engage me with CS2 and then I'll give it another go.

IRL tiles owned by the municipality also cost upkeep. You have to keep paths clear, see to the health of forests, see to it that the water is clean... Land is never without cost.

I've watched a few videos on the 2.0 update alot of the focus seems to be the tile upkeep. In my opinion, it's almost an necessary expense. If it's your city, who are you buying the land from? 😂 Typically in real life the city expands by buying plots of land from farm lands, houses that have acres of land that the city wants, etc. I'm sure if a state wanted to open a new city today, they wouldn't buy a tile, it just comes down to who's nearby and how much money do we have to construct roads for this city, etc, etc.

Next year, this is when I will judge if this game will be able to improve or not, so far there's a certain point where you get bored to play it...lack of content is a killer... for this reason I have been playing Workers and Resources Soviet Republic, and because of it I don't feel like going back to Cities Skylines... I'm not that interested like it was few months it got announced and after the release it was enough to make me feel despair and sadness.

For me, I have always wanted for a more in depth city Simulator, CS1 was enjoyable but a little disappointing to me in this regard. I'm encouraged (relieved) about the direction CS2 to going now. IMO, detailed simulation first, eye candy is great but secondary :)

Very weird with the upkeep fee for tiles. Where did that come from? Kind of makes no sense. There was plenty of room within the existing game mechanics to make adjustments to make the economy more challenging. They did a bunch of this (taxes, service fees, maintenance fees, import fees, and on and on). Why add something that makes no sense? It's like you are imposing a fee on yourself but you don't get the money. So after all of the impacting changes (which weren't insignificant) there must have still been too much money in the coffers so they just smacked everyone with an arbitrary tile maintenance fee? And it's going to take mods and workarounds to deal with because it's too severe.

There are a few things that I like but I still can't play either on my pc atm until I get it fixed, and I am an impatient person and I wanted CS2 to be a very nice and updated version of CS1 which it is not as of yet. I would be very annoyed if I had started a beautiful city and then these upgrades came in and caused issues. Especially those who use mods. I do not like the tile upkeep. I find it ridiculous. I watched both you and Biffa and like I said there are some things that are nice and somethings that are useless and some things I won't understand since I can't play. I'm seeing it from the outside looking in because I can't play. Anyway, I'll still wait to buy until I feel it's up to speed or better than CS, which I still prefer. I hope they will get there!🤩

The properties within are owned privately and pay taxes to the city for the infrastructure.

Give players the options to colour the game's behaviour there will be quirks that will cause, high rent, low employment and poor school attendance but that's where content creators come in to help with the best concoction of policies for the desired effect.

Also I love Biffa but I greatly disagree with him on the wanting the game to be more of a challenge thing. I've always viewed that state of having more money than you know what to do with as the "Success State" or Reward for building a successful city. Once you get into those higher population numbers, yeah I don't think money should be that much of an issue, imo. I'm also not a fan of the all or nothing approach to difficulty. I imagine most people see and say similar to you where it's like "Well if you don't like the challenge then unlock all map tiles, unlock all buildings, give yourself unlimited money." but then you take away basically any progression to the game at all. There has to be a middle ground somewhere either with sliders like Algeron wants to do or something. I worry like in their haste to satisfy Biffa's feed back of more challenge, they've pushed to far in the other direction.

@@lisekiilstofte5619 I'm not arguing against challenge it can be good, but go too hard in the other direction and you risk losing the casual/midcore audience. It's worth remembering this is a city builder, not some tough as nails action game. Imo City Builders have for the past Idk 15 or so years if not longer appealed to a more creative and casual audience. Challenge is good but imo it shouldn't be the default, and it should have more scale than just binary off/on options. A slider like the mod author wants to introduce that lets you scale how much you want the tile upkeep to be is a good idea of this. Imagine being able to scale things like that or for another example how expensive service upkeeps are, It provides more player choice in how challenging the difficulty is. Instead of the limiting "just play with unlimited money if you don't like it" mindset.

At a glance I'm happy reading a lot of the changes but the Tiles Upkeep is definately a bit of a red flag to me as I always tend to lean towards smaller cities and rural towns and villages as opposed to massive megacities. Just looking at Egginborough's budget is very disturbing. Wouldn't have been soo bad if it were around 1/4 or less of your total budget but that was a huge chunk of your budget going on "land tax" alone! (In my opinion it should have been an on option of buying the land squares outright for a bigger fee or taking out a loan for it and paying for it over a lengthy duration of time. This current system looks like its going to kill off many existing cities, forcing loads of people to start fresh builds). I'll be definately considering a mod to disable that when I finally get around to playing it in the autumn-winter.

Loved CS 1 but not bought #2 yet, is it now worth buying after this massive patch? Or should I wait another 6 months? Thanks for the video.

Its certainly better and more stable than launch but needs some PDX mods to make it properly enjoyable. I'd say if you haven't played yet, no wouldn't be an awful time to try it

As you described the tile upkeep cost, my thought was instantly what the mod does. Why didn't the devs think of that and include it? It's like they don't play the game. I'll continue with cs1 until the new game us out of beta. It remains one of the worst game purchases I've made, on par with the simcity release that killed the series.

Most of this won't change much I feel. As long as we can't exactly moniter most of these things, it will still feel like no actual simulation is happeninf

Custom assets next. Hopefully in the next month.
Tile upkeep is a typical L.. who asked for that? Why. Wtf 😂
Also what is this release schedule? Why release it on a Monday and not Friday before the weekend?

Friday was a public holiday in Finland. Also, if there a secret bug then there's no one to fix it all weekend. Monday is fine.

I feel like the devs knew the game would take a full year after release date to be a enjoyable fun filled experience. They had a agenda. Release the game, "the buyers will be paying for this games salary for the year and during that year we will tidy up all the major things we already knew would hagel and nag experienced players. At this point I see that the game was a 100% cashgrab game.
Extremely thankful I didn't rework a computers specs for this game. I'll be waiting for future updates amd keep playing CS1 with all expansions until I hear the game is at least garnishing players again.
Overcharged Egg, do you enjoy this game? Serious question.

One of the awesome bug fixes is that now the UI breaks when I select a tool, forcing me to have to kill the program. Well done team. No doubt it’s a mod clash, so of course I’ll have to spend MY time troubleshooting all the mods to fix it. Something I used to have to do with the first game, cuz you know, mods kinda weren’t officially supported for that title. So I ask, why bother having official support for mods if I gotta disable them all just for the game to run every time there’s an update? You said it Egg, we shouldn’t have to rely on mods, and we shouldn’t have to troubleshoot products every time they make an update as if we are alpha testers for Star Citizen. #ModernGameDevelopmentIsAJoke

"This game was totally fine when we released it."
    Really?
"No, here's 3 pages of bug fixes and a total overhaul to the economy because nothing worked properly. Also, we're going to make it so hard to re-balance your existing cities that all you content creators should definitely start new cities because the existing ones make us look bad. And if the modders could get back to work fixing everything else, we'd really appreciate it."

Oh god, I already struggle to play the game, as I'm a casual player who just wants to make a nice looking city, the tile upkeep definitely makes me to not want to play it without unlimited funds 😅😂 although I think I've found it harder to play in normal conditions, so just use unlimited and unlocked coz I don't wanna stress over everything lol
I wish there were set difficulty options? Or even a recommendation notification on how to fix something (like bad traffic, look into upgrading to more lanes or add a roundabout?) but this is all biased opinion, as 90% of the time I have no clue what I'm doing when I'm playing lol

I not have a bunch high density office buildings with only 5 people working. I also have no residential demand but my population keeps going up by 5k an hour. My 500k city doubled to over a million people without zoning any residential demand. Cant zone any new res buildings and only 5 people can work in high res office buildings . Game is broken , i cant figure out where all these people are moving in from . I cant really stand playing this game no more because no matter how much time or perfect zoning you do the game and the developers are just broken and cant be fixed

They induce the tile upkeep so you start a new game. This is the nonsense They need to cut out and just make the game as it supposed to be made.

I disagree. Depending on how you've already built your pre-2.0 update, your judicial usage of Mods, and whether you've relied on outsourced services...
There are always ways to keep your city through and beyond.
It might very well be challenging but I absolutely promise you that if you work through those challenges without letting them get to you, it will be a much more rewarding and educational experience. You'll not only appreciate the game better but your mastery over it.
Remember, it's not about the destination but the journey to get there.

To be honest, I think the game is broken now, so basically, if you have a school, high school, grave yard, fire station, and basic utilities, you end up having a permit unless you reduce their budgets and up the tax to 20% and then your population collapses. It's awful

You have to grow your community to a size that they can actually sustain those things. Many smaller towns actually share schools for this very reason: they're expensive and you can get a bigger bang-for-buck by combining school systems and sending your kids one town over
