    Glinka's "Valse Fantaisie" was originally written for solo piano in 1839 and orchestrated in 1856. This version was transcribed by Gryaznov.
    Valse-Fantaisie resembles the manner of Carl Maria von Weber’s Invitation to the Dance and the waltzes of the Strauss family. Russian folk melodies are apparent throughout, but they are expressed in a classical Viennese idiom. Much of the work is rather melancholy in character and does not exemplify the traditional musical scene of an intertwined couple progressing around a ball room, but more of wistful and pensive character. In his original manuscript for piano Glinka wrote the somber somewhat ominous remark in the margin, “All I know of love is the pain it causes!”.

    I love this transcription! Gryaznov keeps on giving. Would be a treat to see his transcriptions of Debussy & Mahler someday!

    I have not heard this version of this piece before so thank you for making this. The way Gryaznov styles this work or arranged it reminds me a lot of Godowsky (the ending reminds me of the ending of Godowsky's Passacaglia which ends with a dissonant cadence to B minor which this work also does) it also sounds more ferocious than his other arrangements. (Especially the Rachmaninoff Italian Polka)

    I don't understand one thing: the piece was composed for solo piano, then it was arranged for orchestra and now the orchestra arrangement was rearranged back for solo piano?

    • @Pablo-vk6zi
      @Pablo-vk6zi 2 місяці тому +6

      this is more than an arrangement, is, as the title says, more like a fantasy on the original piece

      @@Pablo-vk6zi Oh, so it actually has changes in musical content? I thought it was just arranged

    • @Pablo-vk6zi
      @Pablo-vk6zi 2 місяці тому +4

      @@Henri.d.Olivoirnot really like changes in musical content, but is definetly more than a transcription or an arragement, you can search the original solo piano versión to compare them

    Wait, why the theme is same with the (fake) Chopin Ballade No.5 on UA-cam?

    • @Xyriak
      @Xyriak 2 місяці тому +1

      Because Xaver Scharwenka (the composer of the misnamed "Ballade 5" that you are mentioning) stole the theme from Glinka's "Valse Fantasie", on which this piece is also based.
