  • This is a few laps of the first test for my recently 16v swapped Rallye.
I spent around 10 weekends prior to this test, taking out the old 8v engine, diagnosing its failure ( dropped valve due to fatigued rocker arm) and then sourcing and fitting a 16v.
On the rolling road it made fractionally more power than the custom built 8v (+2hp) and the same improvement in torque. Total cost of the swap after selling my special bits from the 8v, about £800. It's a bit upsetting to find that spending multiple thousands on a custom built 8v, that I can get more out of a 16v scrapper. ho hum.
The new engine is standard apart from uprated fuel injectors, lighter flywheel , baffled sump, supersprint manifold and induction kit (running standard TB)
However test showed that there are a few oil leaks that need fixing, so I'll be taking it out again to fix. Hopefully be able to race it a Snetterton.
