The theme for "Murmaider". It's about mermaids killing humanoid sea crabs, which led to their queen to take revenge after a school of mermaids except for one child. The mermaid grows up and prepares to kill the queen. Unfortunately, the mermaid gets hacked to pieces before she can deal the final blow. "Murmaider II: The Water God" reveals she survived and her attempt made her a legend. She accepted a Deal with the Devil, becoming the Water Godnote and killing everything to make her own empire, causing the other gods to hunt her down. By "Murmaider III", she's surrounded on all sides by the gods and all her enemies she made in carving a bloody path to greatness, and the best she could do is make a Last Stand in defiance.

That's the story based of the music video, but outside the first song the lyrics don't correlate and expound on it's own story. My interpretation based purely on the lyrics:
Murmaider I: The Murmaider goes to war with mermaids, enacting some unknown but deep-seated revenge against them. Eventually he is "defeated" and 'his life is ended by murmaids'.
Murmaider II: The Murmaider is revealed to have survived and heals up in some desolate cave. He meets a prophet that tells him is fate; to become a God that frees them from the tyranny of murmaids. But the prophet warns that mermaids are sacred and beloved by gods deep in the ocean. He cares not for the warning and continues to gather power. Eventually proclaiming himself as The Water God all the while the deities begin to plot his demise.
Murmaider III: The Water God has ruled over the sea as a tyrant but now faces the end of his life. Three Murmaids approach him to herald his failures and gloat that in this final battle, against an alliance between the land, sky, and the bowels of hell, he will fall and the Murmaids will survive.

Best part about Metalocalypse is that it's made by metal heads for metal heads. Small obviously is a real fan when he can write songs like this and the show has great deep references, not surface level stuff.

I knew Brendon Small for sure was a legitimate metal head when I was watching the "Go Forth and Die" episode recently, where it starts off with Nathan having a nightmare where he's working at a fast food place. They never say the name of the restaurant, but you can read it off his shirt or hat but anyways, it's called "Dimmu BURGER"
Which, some metal heads would notice, is referencing the Black Metal band 'Dimmu Borgir.'

I’ll say it, it’s a hard decision, since every song on this album is a masterpiece. But in my personal opinion. This is the best one off the album, and maybe their entire collection! 🤘

I cannot express how this makes me feel. I did a cover of Murmaider I (Bat metal version) and I lost my dog few days later. I try not to think of him as it breaks me but this brought fond memories of him. I felt he is at peace. It teared me up when the last chorus hit. Thank you Dethklok.

In San Diego this year there has been an unprecedented rise in sightings of Orcas herding dolphins in-shore and slaughtering them. The beginning of this song makes me think how terrifying it must be to be hunted by sonar signals you can hear as you're slowly surrounded and pushed into no escape

I love them & the show I'm still furious they took it off the air. I was one of "those people" that kept writing to everyone to get it back 😢 on the air❗️I went to the hospital with my dad & stayed the few days there also for him have a lung biopsy to see if he had cancer, he did & it was serious ended up being fatal, well when I came home my fiance was more upset than he should have been that concerned me a bit. Well it was concern for me because he knew I was going to want to watch my show right away & guess whose dad died of cancer on that very episode 😮❗️It was amazing to me but he was afraid I would breakdown or something it was a trip though 🤪❗️

But that’s also the same with Aortic Desecration and SOS - the former literally depicting Nathan’s broken ego/heart, and the latter literally embodying his “come back and maybe together we can fight this” mentality after the fact.

This is what happens in "Murmaider II: The Water God". After surviving the events of the first "Murmaider", the mermaid visits a sea prophet who deems her The Chosen One destined to bring the oceans to greatness. However, the sea prophet warns that choosing this path will forever make her an enemy of the gods who are watching her. The mermaid accepts her destiny anyway, claiming that she had gone through much worse. By "Murmaider III", she comes to regret her decision - she has carved a bloody empire and is one of the most powerful beings of the ocean, but now everyone wants to kill her.
